SELF FLATTERING LEADS TO SELF DEFEAT
*TEXT* Esther 6:6
"So Haman came in. And the king said unto him, What shall be done unto the man whom the king delighteth to honour? NOW HAMAN THOUGHT IN HIS HEART, TO WHOM WOULD THE KING DELIGHT TO DO HONOUR MORE THAN TO MYSELF?"
*BIBLE READING*
Esther 1:1-14
*INTRODUCTION*
FLATTERING is the condition of exaggeration. Over pricing. Giving something more value than it deserves. Taking something out of proportion. Being louder than necessary. Often covered up with lies and deceit, necessitated by ego, pride, arrogance and self exaltation. And SELF- FLATTERING is simply when one thinks of himself more highly than he actually is. When one arrogates to himself positions he never merits. Etc. Such disposition can easily lead to disaster, failure and defeat.
*MESSAGE*
The King of the Persia after going through the Chronicles, discovered that a man called Mordecai had saved his life when attempts were made to assassinate him by his two chamberlains. The King consequently decided to honour Mordecai. Therefore, Haman the enemy of Mordecai had come to take permission from the king to hang Mordecai on a gallo he built, only to be asked by the King, What shall be done to the man the King delighteth to honour? Haman never thought of anyone in the kingdom to have been qualified for such honour. Therefore he thought within himself, whom would the king delights to honour more than himself. That was self appraisal. Self glorification. Self reward and self promotion. He though he was the one, and as a result, demanded what ordinarily he could not. First he demanded that the person should be given and decorated with the Royal Apparel ( cloth ); the Royal Crown; the Royal horse and a Royal Procession and Proclamation by the King's most nobel personnel. The King told him to go and do exactly what he said unto Mordecai the Jew that sits at the gate. Immediately, though he obeyed, but he buried his face in shame. His self flattering led to his self defeat. Of course, later he was hung on that same gallo he prepared against Mordecai, and Mordecai subsequently, was given his position as second in command.
*CONCLUSION*
Recall that what is good for the goose is also good for the gander. Don't always think yourself, think others also. Your greatness is not in what you think about yourself, your greatness is rather on what you think about others. You can't rose higher than you think others should rise in life. Others deserve the best as much as you think you deserve. Those who over priced themselves has often turned to bad market in the affairs of life. The philosophy of self interest in every deal and transactions has proved how selfish and uncaring the fallen nature could exhibit; Don't fall victim of that trap, many are already a victim.
*PRAYER GUIDE*
1. OH LORD my God, help me to recognise the value and worth of people around me.
2. Father, remove every form of self flattering from me.
3. Jesus give me the Spirit of humility, wisdom and understand to appreciate and celebrate people you've given what you've not given to me.

Self flattering is self deception.

May God help you to raise men and not to destroy them.
