🖊️ *COMMENTARY*
Pride is defined as a feeling or deep pleasure or satisfaction derived from one's own achievements, the achievements of those with whom he is closely associated, or from qualities or possessions that are widely admired. The first thing pride does in the life of a man is to give him a feeling of satisfaction, "I have arrived and this can lead to disgrace and set back."
In one story, a lawyer who had won many cases in the past, and for the next case, he didn't think it wise to prepare himself. He couldn't even pray and put it into the hands of God but went with himself, had confidence that he had always won and nothing could change anything. But on reaching the court, just as he stood to speak, the judge asked him whether he was not aware of a case that had changed the law in the last few days. The result was a very humiliating one. As the passage in Proverbs warns us against pride, it comes before a fall. Though he later cried to God and the case was appealed and finally he won. But before then, it was already on the news.
From the above Bible text, King Herod was full of himself. Taking pride in killing James and seeing that the Jews liked it, his pride led him to arrest Peter. God disgraced him by taking his prize prisoner right under his nose and secondly, God took his life in one of his lavish demonstrations of self-exaltation. Your glory should go to God. After achieving a lot, know that it was not by your might, power, wisdom, intelligence, effort or strength. All glory must go to the Lord!
