GOD’S AMAZING FAITHFULNESS AND MERCY (1)

1 Corinthians 1:7-9 (NLT)

Now you have every spiritual gift you need as you eagerly wait for the return of our Lord Jesus Christ. He will keep you strong to the end so that you will be free from all blame on the day when our Lord Jesus Christ returns. God will do this, for he is faithful to do what he says, and he has invited you into partnership with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

The Bible tells us that through Christ we have now obtained mercy, (1Pet. 2:10). Jesus is the greatest expression of the mercy of God to us, and through Him, we continually experience the mercy of God in various forms. It is because of Jesus the mercy of God is sure in our lives. The Bible describes us as the vessels of mercy, (Rom. 9:23). David said, “Surely, God’s goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life…” (Psa. 23:6).

It is by the mercy of God we were saved and raised up with Christ, (Eph. 2:4-6). It is by the mercy and power of God we are being kept until the coming of Christ (1Pet. 1:5). Jesus is faithfully interceding for us right now, (Heb. 7:25). The Bible also describes what we shall experience when Christ returns as an expression of the mercy of God, (Jude 1:21).

We need to be very confident in God’s faithfulness and commitment to keep us by His mercy till the coming of Christ. As long as our faith remains in Christ, ‘He’ will present us holy, unblameable, and unreproveable in His sight when He returns, (Col. 1:21-23). Jude 1:24 says ‘God’ will keep you from falling and He will present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy. As our text above says, God will keep you strong to the end because He is faithful.

Prayer:
Father, I thank you for saving me by your mercy, and I thank you that you are keeping me by your mercy till Christ returns.

Thanks be to God...

THE AFFECTION OF CHRIST FOR HIS CHURCH

Philippians 1:8 (TPT, GNB, CEV, NLT)

I dearly love you with the tender affection of Jesus, the Anointed One. God is my witness that I tell the truth when I say that my deep feeling for you all comes from the heart of Christ Jesus himself. God himself knows how much I want to see you. He knows that I care for you in the same way that Christ Jesus does. God knows how much I love you and long for you with the tender compassion of Christ Jesus.

May God fill your heart with the same passion and affection that Jesus has for His church. As this happens, His grace will flow through you to be a greater blessing to the church. Apostle Paul said every day of his life he was burdened by his concern for all the churches, (2 Cor. 11:28). How much do you think about the church and the growth and welfare of other believers?

The church is very special to Jesus. The church is the body of Christ (Eph. 1:22-23, Eph. 5:30). Is your body special to you? The church is the bride of Christ, (Eph. 5:25, 32). The church is God the Father’s field and business, (1 Cor. 3:9). It is the household of God, (Eph. 2:19). In Hebrews 3:6, we are also described as the house of Christ – His lineage.

There must be a great love in our hearts for all saints, (Eph. 1:15). It is something that must accompany/reflect our faith in Christ, (Col.1:4). The real proof of our love for God is our love for fellow believers, (1 John 3:16-17). To love the church as we love Christ, we must see each member of the church as one with Christ. Apostle Paul described fellow believers as the glory of Christ, (2 Cor.8:23). Christ has given us the glory that God the Father gave Him so that we all will be one with Him, (John 17:22). We must see each other as the glory of Christ.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, please fill my heart with the same passion and affection Christ has.

SEEK THE THINGS THAT MATTER TO CHRIST (2)

Acts 26:14-16 (NIV)

We all fell to the ground, and I heard a voice saying to me in Aramaic, ‘Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads.’ “Then I asked, ‘Who are you, Lord?’ “‘I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,’ the Lord replied. ‘Now get up and stand on your feet. I have appeared to you to appoint you as a servant and as a witness of what you have seen and will see of me.

Though Saul was persecuting the church, Jesus said to him, “Why are you persecuting me?” Jesus is very concerned about how we treat His church; for what we do to the church, we are doing to Him, (Matt. 25:40).

The things that matter to Christ are preaching the message of His Cross and the growth/welfare of His church. These must be the things that matter to us also. As believers in Christ, we must be more concerned about the rewards we will get in Heaven than about our status, pleasures, and comforts on this earth.

We are ministers of reconciliation and ambassadors of Christ to tell people that Christ paid for their sins and God is no more angry with them, (2 Cor. 5:18-20). It is not God’s will that anyone perishes, but that all come to repentance. If people do not hear about what Christ did for them on the Cross, all He did will be in vain. Your preaching of the Gospel is as important as Jesus’ dying on the Cross. This is why Apostle Paul said it would be very terrible for him if he missed out on such a great opportunity, (1 Cor. 9:16). Jesus wants to build His church so the gates of hell won’t prevail against it, (Matt. 16:18). As a part of His body, you have a role to play for building the church in love, (Eph. 4:15-16).

Prayer:
Father, please use me to preach the message of the cross of Christ, and use me to bless and build

ABBA FATHER (1)

Romans 8:15-16 (AMPC)

For [the Spirit which] you have now received [is] not a spirit of slavery to put you once more in bo***ge to fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption [the Spirit producing sonship] in [the bliss of] which we cry, Abba (Father)! Father! The Spirit Himself [thus] testifies together with our own spirit, [assuring us] that we are children of God.

When used in reference to a father, the term ‘Abba’ reflects not just the respect one has for a father, but also a very dear and intimate relationship. It is by the help of the Spirit we call God, “Abba Father.”

The spirit of bo***ge which our text above refers to, is the spirit of the law and Old Covenant, while the Spirit of adoption is the Spirit of grace and the New Covenant. In The Passion Translation, our text above says, “And you did not receive the “spirit of religious duty,” leading you back into the fear of never being good enough. But you have received the “Spirit of full acceptance,” enfolding you into the family of God. And you will never feel orphaned, for as he rises up within us, our spirits join him in saying the words of tender affection, “Beloved Father!” For the Holy Spirit makes God’s fatherhood real to us as he whispers into our innermost being, “You are God’s beloved child!”

The Holy Spirit strengthens our conviction that we are God’s legitimate children and members of His household, (Eph. 2:13). He enables us to have a free and intimate relationship with God as our Father. He makes us know we are born of God, understanding the unconditional love God has for us, and He helps us know we are always righteous and perfect in the sight of God because of our faith in Jesus, (Heb. 10:14-18).

Prayer:
Abba Father! I thank you that you are my Father! Thank you for making me your child and thank you for your Spirit in me.
