Christ said:
π βFor without me ye can do nothing.β β John 15:5
But many now live as though the statement should read:
βWithout money, nothing can be done.β
Money has its place.
God has His place.
Money is a servant.
It was never designed to become a master.
π₯ πππ πππππππ ππππππ ππππ πππ ππππ πππππππ ππ πππ ππ πππππ ππππππ πππ πππππ πππππππ ππ ππππ ππ πππππ πππππππππ!
When money becomes the answer to every question...
When money becomes the emphasis of life...
When money becomes the motivation for ministry...
When money becomes the measure of success...
When money becomes the reason for preaching...
And God is gradually pushed into the backgroundβ

God is the One who gives power to get wealth.
God is the One who gives wisdom.
God is the One who blesses.
God is the One who provides.
God is the One who sustains.
π₯ ππ πππ πππ πππ ππππππππ ππππππ ππππ πππππππππ ππππ πππ πππππππ?
How can gold take the place of God?

From the pages of Scripture until now, gold has been an issue.
Men have always wanted what God gives without wanting God Himself.
Israel saw the mighty hand of God.
They saw the Red Sea divided.
They ate bread from heaven.
They drank water from the rock.
They experienced God's supernatural preservation.
Yet when Moses went up the mountain, they demanded a god they could see.
And what did they give them?
π₯ ππππ!
π βUp, make us gods, which shall go before us.β β Exodus 32:1 (KJV)
Aaron gathered their golden earrings, melted them, fashioned a calf, and Israel began to worship the work of their own hands.
π₯ ππππ π πππππππ!
They exchanged the invisible God who delivered them for a visible god they could manufacture.
And the same spirit is still operating today.
People may no longer bow physically before a golden calf, but many have built their entire lives around another kind of gold.
Money has become their confidence.
Money has become their security.
Money has become their motivation.
Money has become their god.
They no longer ask:
βWhat is God's will?β
They ask:
βHow much will I make?β
They no longer ask:
βWhere is God sending me?β
They ask:
βWhere is the money?β
They no longer ask:
βWhat does God want from my life?β
They ask:
βWhat will this ministry give me?β

When Moses called Israel back to God, the Levites separated themselves for the Lord.
π βWho is on the LORD'S side? let him come unto me.β β Exodus 32:26 (KJV)
When the multitude went after the golden calf, a remnant stood with God.
It has always been so.
There will always be a crowd around the golden calf.
And there will always be a remnant that says:
βAs for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.β

ππ ππππ ππππππππππ.
The question is:

πππ ππ πππ?
Where are the preachers who cannot be bought?
Where are the ministers who would rather lose money than lose their message?
Where are the men and women who would rather remain small with God than become great without Him?
Where are those who can say:

One of the greatest tragedies of our generation is that some men who were called to carry the burden of souls have become preoccupied with the burden of material things.
God called them to preach Christ.
They began preaching themselves.
God called them to shepherd souls.
They began building platforms.
God called them to seek the Kingdom.
They began seeking influence.
God called them to carry a cross.
They began carrying a brand.
They started with a calling and ended up chasing a career.

ππππππ πππππ, πππ πππ ππππ πππππ ππππ ππ πππππππ ππππππππ!
You may become famous among men, but heaven will ask:
βWhat did you do with the calling I gave you?β
You may gather crowds.
You may build institutions.
You may acquire properties.
You may accumulate wealth.
But if you abandoned the divine assignment entrusted to you, what will all of it mean when you stand before Christ?
And what about the souls that followed you?
What about the people you trained to pursue money instead of God?
What about the congregation that learned from your life that prosperity is more important than holiness?
What about the people who came looking for Christ but found mammon sitting on the throne?

There is something deeply wrong with a generation that wants God's blessings but does not want God's government.
Everybody wants to be independent.
Nobody wants to depend on God.
Yet Christianity begins with dependence.
βGive us this day our daily bread.β
The Christian life is not:
βI don't need God; I have money.β
It is:
π₯ βπ ππππ πππππ, πππ π πππππ ππππ πππ!β
You can have money and still be helpless.
You can have money and lack wisdom.
You can have money and lose your soul.
You can have money and lack peace.
You can have money and lack revelation.
You can have money and be spiritually bankrupt.
Money can buy a bed, but it cannot buy sleep.
Money can buy a house, but it cannot make it a home.
Money can buy medicine, but it cannot guarantee healing.
Money can buy food, but it cannot create appetite.
Money can build a church, but it cannot produce the presence of God.
Money can gather a crowd, but it cannot transform a soul.
And most importantly:

The desire to exalt self above God is not new.
The temptation to seek elevation, power and independence from God has always been part of rebellion against divine authority.
That same spirit continues whenever creation says to the Creator:

That is why money can become spiritually dangerous.
Not because money itself is evil, but because the love of money can become a declaration of independence from God.
Paul warned:
π βFor the love of money is the root of all evil.β β 1 Timothy 6:10 (KJV)
The issue is not merely possessing money.

Look at Israel in the wilderness.
For forty years, God sustained His people in a place where ordinary economic systems could not sustain them.
There were no supermarkets in the wilderness.
No financial institutions.
No normal business transactions.
Yet God fed them.
God gave them water.
God preserved them.
God supplied their needs.
The wilderness became a testimony that God does not need a human economy to sustain His people.
So why have we reduced God to money?
Why do we think every answer must first pass through our bank account?
Why do we believe that if there is no money, there can be no ministry?
The same God who sustained Elijah by ravens can sustain His servants.
The same God who fed Israel can provide for His people.
The same God who supplied the widow can make a way where there seems to be no way.

The answer is not to despise money.
The answer is to put money back in its proper place.
π βThe labourer is worthy of his reward.β β 1 Timothy 5:18 (KJV)

There is nothing wrong with God blessing His people.
The danger is when the blessing becomes more important than the One who blessed you.

Christ did not say you cannot have money.
He said:
π βYe cannot serve God and mammon.β β Matthew 6:24 (KJV)
Two masters.
Two thrones.
Two authorities.
And one heart.
π₯ πππ ππππ ππππππ πππ ππππ ππ πππ ππππππ!
Money can be in your hand without being in your heart.
But when money becomes the thing you trust, worship, pursue, obey and live for, you have crossed from possessing money into being possessed by mammon.

The greatest danger is not having gold.

When gold becomes more important than the Gospel.
When profit becomes more important than purity.
When crowds become more important than souls.
When buildings become more important than broken lives.
When offerings become more important than obedience.
When influence becomes more important than intimacy with Christ.
When ministers begin measuring their success by what they own instead of what God has accomplished through them.

And when God leaves the throne, mammon will gladly sit there.

Church, return to God!
Preacher, return to your calling!
Minister, return to the altar!
Believer, return to dependence upon God!
Let us stop measuring God's faithfulness by our bank balance.
Let us stop judging ministry by material accumulation.
Let us stop calling men successful simply because they have money.
A rich man without God is still poor.
A poor man with God is not abandoned.

π₯ πππ ππππππππ ππππππππ ππ ππππππ!
For what shall it profit a man if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
Gold cannot save you.
Money cannot redeem you.
Influence cannot deliver you.
Buildings cannot justify you.
Titles cannot defend you.
When you stand before God, your bank account will not answer for you.

So let us put gold back where it belongs.
Let money be a servant, not a saviour.
Let wealth be a tool, not a throne.
Let prosperity serve the Kingdom, not replace the King.
Because until a man is helped by God, even his money cannot make him a success.
You can have money and still lack God.
You can have wealth and still lack wisdom.
You can have influence and still lack Christ.
You can have a great ministry and still lose your soul.
Therefore, seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness.
For when God is your God, money can take its proper place.
But when money becomes your godβ

π May the Lord deliver His Church from the spirit of mammon, restore our dependence upon Him, purify the motives of His servants, and give us grace to use wealth as a tool for His Kingdom rather than allowing wealth to become our master. May Christ remain upon the throne of every heart, and may our greatest pursuit always be the glory of God. In Jesus Christ's Mighty Name. Amen.
