HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE SUNDAY MASS – 9TH AUGUST 2026

Homily: Rev. Fr. Jude Barnaby

1. There is no storm-free life. We will inevitably experience storms and challenges at different moments in our lives.

2. Storms represent the challenges we encounter in life. They may be the presence of something unpleasant in our lives or the absence of something desirable.

3. Let us seek God in silence. God speaks in the quiet. We must eliminate unnecessary noise and distractions from our lives so that we can hear and discern the voice of the Lord.

4. A life cultivated in silence helps us to encounter and serve God even in the midst of storms. When we develop an attitude of prayerful silence, we become more conscious of God's presence, even in difficult circumstances.

5. Storms do not last forever. They come and go, but faith endures. Therefore, we must remain steadfast in faith, knowing that every storm will eventually pass.

6. In the midst of every storm, the Lord assures us: “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.”

7. Our gaze should always be fixed on Jesus Christ. Regardless of the storms and challenges we face, we must keep our eyes on the Lord.

8. Our prayer in moments of storm should be simple and sincere: “Lord, save me!” We should turn to Jesus with complete trust, knowing that He is always present to rescue and strengthen us.

May we always keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, especially in the storms of life. Amen.

[After the crowd was satisfied,] Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go before him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowds. And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up into the hills by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone, but the boat by this time was many furlongs distant from the land, beaten by the waves; for the wind was against them. And in the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking on the sea. But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified, saying, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out for fear. But immediately he spoke to them, saying, “Take heart, it is I; have no fear.” And Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, bid me come to you on the water.” He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus; but when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me.” Jesus immediately reached out his hand and caught him, saying to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. And those in the boat worshipped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”

Rev. Fr. Evaristus Okakpu Celebrates Holy Mass at St. Joseph Parish, Unizik Tempsite, Awka
..Warmly Received and Honoured by the Parishioners

It was all joy for the newly ordained Priest, Rev. Fr. Evaristus Okakpu, as he celebrates Holy Mass at St. Joseph Parish, Unizik Tempsite, Awka, on Sunday, 26th July, 2026.

In his homily, Rev. Fr. Okakpu encouraged the faithful to surrender their lives completely to God and to seek first the Kingdom of God.

He reminded them that God's greatest desire is for His children to live with Him in eternal life, urging them to remain steadfast in faith and holy living.

Towards the end of the Mass, the parishioners warmly welcomed and honoured the priest with gifts as a mark of their love and appreciation.

The occasion was further enlivened by a special congratulatory rendition from the All Saints Choir of the parish.

Rev. Fr. Evaristus Okakpu was among the priests ordained by the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese on 18th July, 2026, at St. Patrick's Cathedral, Awka.

May the good Lord bless and strengthen him as he begins his work in His vineyard. Amen.
