Mutanen da aka yi maganarsu a cikin 1: 1-7 sun karya alkawarinsu da Allah kuma sun yi rusuna a wuraren bautar gumaka. Wannan ita ce barazanar hukuncin Allah da aka yi wa Samariya da Yahudza domin bautar gumaka.

Mika ya gargade su game da hukuncin da zai zo wa dukan al'ummar (aya 6-7). Za a hallaka gumaka na Isra'ila sa'ad da Samariya, babban birninta, ya fadi.

*TOPIC: GOD'S RESPONSE TO JONAH'S ANGER*

*JONAH 4:1-11 (NIV)*

1: But to Jonah this seemed very wrong, and he became angry.

2: He prayed to the LORD, "Isn’t this what I said, LORD, when I was still at home? That is what I tried to forestall by fleeing to Tarshish. I knew that you are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abounding in love, a God who relents from sending calamity.

3: Now, LORD, take away my life, for it is better for me to die than to live."

4: But the LORD replied, "Is it right for you to be angry?"

5: Jonah had gone out and sat down at a place east of the city. There he made himself a shelter, sat in its shade and waited to see what would happen to the city.

6: Then the LORD God provided a leafy plant and made it grow up over Jonah to give shade for his head to ease his discomfort, and Jonah was very happy about the plant.

7: But at dawn the next day God provided a worm, which chewed the plant so that it withered.

8: When the sun rose, God provided a scorching east wind, and the sun blazed on Jonah’s head so that he grew faint. He wanted to die, and said, "It would be better for me to die than to live."

9: But God said to Jonah, "Is it right for you to be angry about the plant?" "It is," he said. "And I’m so angry I wish I were dead."

10: But the LORD said, "You have been concerned about this plant, though you did not tend it or make it grow. It sprang up overnight and died overnight.

11: And should I not have concern for the great city of Nineveh, in which there are more than a hundred and twenty thousand people who cannot tell their right hand from their left —and also many animals?"

*GOD'S RESPONSE TO JONAH'S ANGER*

Yesterday, we saw how God averted disaster in the life of a community as a result of the greatest evangelistic sermon preached by Jonah in Nineveh.

However, Jonah was not happy about the people's repentance. He was so angry that he asked God to take his life (v. 3). Jonah's extreme reaction revealed that he loved himself more than the city.

In God's response, He used the growth of a plant to provide shade for Jonah, which He later caused to die. The sun beat down on Jonah's head until he fainted, and he became angry with God for removing the shade.

God's response was profound: "You pity the plant, for which you did not labour, nor did you make it grow. It came into being in a night and perished in a night" (v. 10). God taught Jonah through this object lesson that He sent him to Nineveh for the salvation of its people.

*QUESTION:* Why are you dodging Nineveh? Why are you avoiding God's responsibility towards the unsaved? Why are you angry about the salvation of these lost souls?

*PRAYER:* Help us as we listen to You daily to recognize the need to carry the Gospel to the unreached without grumbling.

1. Zuciyar Yunusa ta ɓaci ƙwarai a kan wannan abu, har ya yi fushi.

2. Saboda haka ya yi addu'a ga Ubangiji ya ce, “Ina roƙonka, ya Ubangiji, ashe, dā ma can ban faɗa ba, kafin in bar gida, cewa irin abin da za ka yi ke nan? Ai, dalilin da ya sa na yi iyakar ƙoƙarina in gudu zuwa Tarshish ke nan. Na sani kai mai taushin hali ne, mai jinƙai, mai haƙuri. Kai kullum mai alheri ne, a shirye kake kuma ka dakatar da nufinka na yin hukunci.

3. Domin haka fa, ya Ubangiji, ina roƙonka ka ɗauki raina, gama yanzu gara in mutu da in zauna da rai.”

4. Ubangiji kuwa ya amsa ya ce, “Daidai ne ka yi fushi?”

5. Yunusa ya fita daga birnin, ya yi wajen gabas, ya zauna. Ya yi wa kansa rumfa, ya zauna a inuwarta, yana jira ya ga abin da zai sami birnin.

6. Sai Ubangiji ya sa wata 'yar kuranga ta tsiro ta yi girma a inda Yunusa yake, don ta inuwantar da shi, ya ji daɗi. Yunusa kuwa ya yi murna da wannan 'yar kuranga ƙwarai.

7. Amma kashegari da fitowar rana, sai Allah ya sa tsutsa ta cinye 'yar kurangar har ta mutu.

8. A sa'ad da rana ta yi sama, sai Allah ya sa iskar gabas mai zafi ta huro. Yunusa ya ji k**ar zai suma saboda zafin rana da take bugun kansa. Sai ya so ya mutu, ya ce, “Gara in mutu da ina zaune da rai.”

9. Amma Allah ya ce masa, “Daidai ne ka yi fushi saboda 'yar kurangar?” Yunusa ya amsa, “Hakika, daidai ne a gare ni in yi fushi, har ma in yi fushin da ya isa in mutu!”

10. Ubangiji kuma ya amsa, ya ce masa, “Ai, wannan 'yar kurangar dare ɗaya ta girma, kashegari kuma ta mutu, ba ka yi wata wahala dominta ba, ba kai ne ka sa ta ta yi girma ba, duk da haka ranka ya ɓaci saboda ita!

11. Ashe, dole ne ni kuma in ji tausayin Nineba, babban birni mai 'yan yara fiye da dubu ɗari da dubu ashirin marasa alhaki, da kuma dabbobi masu yawa.”

*MARTANIN ALLAH GA HUSHIN YUNUSA*

A jiya, mun ga yadda Allah ya kawar da bala'i a rayuwar al'umma, sak**akon wa'azi mafi girma na bishara da Yunana ya yi a Nineba.

Mutum zai iya ga cewa Yunana bai ji dadin yadda mutanen s**a tuba ba. Ya yi fushi har ya roki Allah ya dauki ransa (aya 3).

Mutum yana iya ganin yadda Yunana ya yi matukar fusata da jinkan da Ubangiji ya yi wa mutanen Nineba. Me yasa? Domin Yunana yana kaunar kansa fiye da birnin.

A cikin amsawar Allah, ya yi amfani da tsiro a matsayin inuwa a gare shi, kuma daga baya ya sa shukar ta mutu. Rana ta bugi kan Yunusa har sai da ya suma, amma Yunana ya yi fushi da Allah domin ya kawar da inuwa.

Menene amsar Allah? Kana jin haushi saboda shukar, wanda ba ka yi wahala kanta ba, ba ka kuma sa ta yin girma ba, wadda ta kasance cikin dare, ta kuma halaka a cikin dare (aya 10). Allah ya sa Yunana ya sani daga wannan darasi cewa ya aika shi Nineba domin ceton ran mutane.

*TOPIC: THE GREATEST EVANGELISTIC SERMON*

*JONAH 3:1-10 (NIV)*

1: And the word of Jehovah came unto Jonah the second time, saying,

2: Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee.

3: So Jonah arose, and went unto Nineveh, according to the word of Jehovah. Now Nineveh was an exceeding great city, of three days’ journey.

4: And Jonah began to enter into the city a day’s journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.

5: And the people of Nineveh believed God; and they proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.

6: And the tidings reached the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and laid his robe from him, and covered him with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.

7:And he made proclamation and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste anything; let them not feed, nor drink water;

8: but let them be covered with sackcloth, both man and beast, and let them cry mightily unto God: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in his hands.

9: Who knoweth whether God will not turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?

10: And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil which he said he would do unto them; and he did it not.

*THE GREATEST EVANGELISTIC SERMON*

In our reading today, God sent Jonah on a mission, but he attempted to flee to Tarshish (1:1-3).

Jonah was hurled into the sea, where a great fish swallowed him. In this dire situation, from the belly of the fish, Jonah called out to the Lord, and the Lord answered him (2:1-2; 10).

God granted Jonah a second chance in chapter 3, verses 1-2. This time, Jonah obeyed God. He listened to God's voice and acted according to His word.

One striking aspect of this evangelistic sermon is that it was very short yet impactful:
“For forty days, Nineveh shall be overthrown.” Many people in Nineveh listened to this sermon, repented, and believed in God.

This greatest evangelistic sermon brought repentance and revival that touched individuals, the king, the entire community, and the people came to believe in God.

This is the kind of sermon we need in our nation—a sermon that calls people to repentance and can avert the evils in the lives of individuals and in the nation as a whole.

The only solution to the ongoing disasters in this nation is a sermon that calls sinners to repentance.

*QUESTION:* How do you react to the sermon preached by Jonah?

*PRAYER:* Oh Lord, we need this type of evangelistic sermon that can lead to repentance and save sinners from their sins in our day.

1: Ubangiji kuma ya sāke ce wa Yunusa,

2: “Ka tashi ka tafi Nineba, babban birnin nan, ka yi musu shelar saƙon da zan faɗa maka.”

3: Sai Yunusa ya tashi ya tafi Nineba k**ar yadda Ubangiji ya faɗa masa. Nineba kuwa babban birni ne. Zai kai mutum tafiyar kwana uku kafin yă ƙure birnin.

4: Sai Yunusa ya k**a tafiya yana ratsa birnin, da ya yi tafiyar yini guda, sai ya yi shela ya ce, “Nan da kwana arba'in za a hallaka Nineba.”

5: Sai mutanen Nineba s**a gaskata Allah, s**a tsai da shawara, cewa kowa da kowa ya yi azumi. Dukan mutane kuwa babba da yaro, s**a sa tufafin makoki.

6: Sa'ad da Sarkin Nineba ya ji labarin, sai ya sauka daga kursiyinsa, ya tuɓe rigarsa, ya sa rigar makoki, ya zauna cikin toka.

7: Sai ya aika wa mutanen Nineba da sanarwa cewa, “Wannan doka ce daga sarki da majalisarsa. Kada kowa ya ci wani abu, mutane, da shanu, da tumaki, da awaki duka, kada kowa ya ci, ko ya sha ruwa.

8: Sai dukan mutane da dabbobi su sa tufafin makoki. Kowa ya roƙi Allah da gaske, kowa kuma ya bar mugayen ayyukan da yake yi.

9: Kila Allah zai dakatar da nufinsa, fushinsa ya huce, ya bar mu mu tsira daga mutuwa!”

10: Allah kuwa ya ga abin da s**a yi, ya ga yadda s**a bar mugayen ayyukansu, sai ya dakatar da nufinsa, bai hallaka su ba.

*BABBAN WA'AZIN BISHARA MAI GIRMA*

A cikin karatunmu a yau, Allah ya aiko Yunana ya yi aiki, amma ya gudu zuwa Tarshish (1:1-3). Aka jefar da shi cikin teku, wani babban kifi ya hadiye shi. Amma a cikin wannan yanayi, daga cikin kifin, Yunana ya yi kira ga Ubangiji kuma Ubangiji ya amsa masa (2:1-2; 10).

Allah ya ba Yunana zarafi na biyu a sura ta 3, aya ta 1-2. Yunana, a wannan karon, ya yi biyayya ga Allah. Ya saurari murya kuma ya aikata bisa ga maganarsa.

Wannan shine irin wa'azin da ake bukata a cikin al'ummarmu, wa'azin da zai yi kira ga mutane zuwa ga tuba da kawar da munanan abubuwa a rayuwar daidaikun mutane da kasa baki daya.

Mafita ga bala'in da ke faruwa a wannan al'umma shine wa'azi da zai iya kiran masu zunubi zuwa ga tuba.

*TAMBAYA:* Yaya kake ji game da irin wannan wa'azin da Yunana yayi?

*ADDU'A:* Ya Ubangiji, muna bukatar irin wannan wa'azin bisharar da zai kai ga tuba da kuma ceci masu zunubi daga zunubai a zamaninmu. Amin.

*TEXT: ROMANS 13:1-7*
*TOPIC: EVERYONE IS UNDER GOD'S AUTHORITY*

*ROMANS 13:1-7 (NIV)*

1: Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.

2: Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.

3: For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and you will be commended.

4: For the one in authority is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God’s servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer.

5: Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also as a matter of conscience.

6: This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God’s servants, who give their full time to governing.

7: Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.

*EVERYONE IS UNDER GOD'S AUTHORITY*

In both the Roman and Nigerian governments, laws and regulations are established. Believers are part of both societies; therefore, they are expected to acknowledge and accept that authority, especially concerning the payment of taxes (vs. 6-7).

Why should believers obey authority?

First, God instituted authority to fulfill His purpose of salvation and judgment (Psalm 75:2; Isaiah 40:21-26; Daniel 2:21). Additionally, obeying authority helps us avoid God's wrath and supports the believers' conscience.

God views authority as His servants, meant to carry out His will and impose consequences on wrongdoers (v. 4).

As followers, we should respect the authorities established by God, recognizing that they too are under His authority.

It is crucial for both believers to obey the governing authorities and for leaders to understand their accountability to God, regardless of where they serve.

*QUESTION:* Why do we sometimes act contrary to the established authority?

*PRAYER:* Lord, help us to recognize and obey the governing authorities, viewing them as Your ministers.
