Honouring Our Lady is part of our normal daily rhythm at home as Catholics. But there are families who lack this blessing. Imagine having Marian Families across the globe. “At the end, my Immaculate Heart will triumph “, Mary says. Let us look at practical and everyday ways that you can honour Our Lady at home as catholic:
1. Pray the Angelus - 6am, 12noon, 6pm.
It takes 2 minutes. When the bell rings or your alarm goes, pause whatever you are doing and recall the Incarnation. This is the heartbeat of daily Marian devotion.
2. Keep a permanent Marian corner: place One image or statue of Mary, a candle, your family rosary at special corner in your home. Light it in the morning during prayer and in the evening. It makes your home visibly Catholic and spiritual.
3. Daily Rosary or at least one decade:
Many families can't pray 20 decades daily, so they pray one decade after dinner, in the car, or during night prayer. Consistency matters more than length.
4. Have a go-to short prayer: these go-to short prayers are also known as ejaculatory prayer. They include amongst others, the Memorare, Hail Mary, “we fly to thy patronage” or "O Mary conceived without sin, pray for us..." They are prayed before leaving the house, before a difficult meeting, or when you hear an ambulance. Teach children to whisper it too.
5. Wear her signs: Every soldier or military personnel have uniforms. Similarly, soldiers of Mary have uniforms: for instance, The Brown Scapular of Our Lady of Mount Carmel or the Miraculous Medal and also the Rosary in absence of a scapular. It's a quiet, personal consecration you carry all day, and a reminder to live purely.
6. Live the First Saturdays: There are special blessings for the 9 consecutive first Saturdays upon every soul who go through the observances. On the first Saturday of each month, you are to go to Mass, Confession, pray the Rosary, and observe 15 minutes meditation on the mysteries of the Rosary - Our Lady of Fatima asked for this for reparation.
7. Imitate her virtues at home: Mary is honored more by imitation than by flowers. Practicing her silence, humility, obedience to God's will, charity to neighbors, and care for the home - especially patience, hospitality, and forgiveness - is true devotion. Imagine your children growing up in such a culture.
8. Read and learn about her: 10 minutes a week from Scripture, read the Annunciation, Visitation, Magnificat - or a book like True Devotion to Mary by St. Louis de Montfort. It keeps your relationship fresh.
9. Join a Marian Movement around your parish: Legion of Mary, Block Rosary, Confraternity of the Most Holy Rosary. Etc.
