*RISE UP, O GOD!*

*📖 Bible Text:*
Psalm 74:10-23, NLT:-
🖍️🖍️🖍️🖍️🖍️🖍️🖍️
10 How long, O God, will you allow our enemies to insult you? Will you let them dishonor your name forever?
11 Why do you hold back your strong right hand? Unleash your powerful fist and destroy them.
12 You, O God, are my king from ages past, bringing salvation to the earth.
13 You split the sea by your strength and smashed the heads of the sea monsters.
14 You crushed the heads of Leviathan and let the desert animals eat him.
15 You caused the springs and streams to gush forth, and you dried up rivers that never run dry.
16 Both day and night belong to you; you made the starlight and the sun.
17 You set the boundaries of the earth, and you made both summer and winter.
18 See how these enemies insult you, Lord. A foolish nation has dishonored your name.
19 Don’t let these wild beasts destroy your turtledoves. Don’t forget your suffering people forever.
20 Remember your covenant promises, for the land is full of darkness and violence!
21 Don’t let the downtrodden be humiliated again. Instead, let the poor and needy praise your name.
22 Arise, O God, and defend your cause. Remember how these fools insult you all day long.
23 Don’t overlook what your enemies have said or their growing uproar.

*📗 The MESSAGE:*
Have you ever felt that kind of frustration something bad happens, you attempt to fix it, but only make it worse? That's what happened to Judah. They were conquered by the Babylonians in 606 BC. Babylon set up a puppet state, but the people wanted to fix the problem and regain their independence. One act of rebellion after another. The result? Babylon destroyed Jerusalem, burnt down the temple, and deported most of the population. But some remained in the land. The reason for this destruction was their idolatry and disobedience to God's Law. They committed immorality by adding the worship pagan gods to the worship of the true God.

The author of this psalm writes years after the Temple was destroyed and the years dragged by in a seeming endless dessert of gloom. It seemed God had abandoned His people. Therefore, the psalmist was calling on God to arise and fight for His people. Many of the great prayers of the Bible appeal to God's character repeatedly. The reason we are justified by grace through the medium of faith is that faith affirms the dependability of God's promises. He is the powerful King and Creator. He has special compassion for His people. When God turns over a person or a nation for judgment, He does not relish it. He is a covenant-keeping God. However, He will not condone sin. He may allow the enemies of believers to punish them if the believers are living in disobedience.

Therefore, do not deliberately give the enemies the opportunity to torment you. Do God's will and He is ready to fight for you and give you victory over your enemies.

*📖 Bible Text:*
Psalm 118:1-9, NLT:-
🖍️🖍️🖍️🖍️🖍️🖍️🖍️
1 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever.

2 Let all Israel repeat: “His faithful love endures forever.”

3 Let Aaron’s descendants, the priests, repeat: “His faithful love endures forever.”

4 Let all who fear the Lord repeat: “His faithful love endures forever.”

5 In my distress I prayed to the Lord, and the Lord answered me and set me free.

6 The Lord is for me, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me?

7 Yes, the Lord is for me; he will help me. I will look in triumph at those who hate me.

8 It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in people.

*RBT Passage:* 1 Kings 1-2.

*🔑 Memory Verse:*

*📗 The MESSAGE:*
History has it that the Roman army destroyed the entire Israel nation in 70 AD. Their experience seemed to be a fulfilment of biblical prophecies about their captivity. They were scattered to different parts of the world but in 1948, as a result of God's covenant to their forefathers, they returned to their homeland. Their experience can be depicted as the steadfast love of God for Israel. Similarly, God's steadfast love is towards His children.

In today's passage, the psalmist recounted how God has helped His people, particularly himself, at different occasions. God had helped him in his time of distress. Having enjoined the nation of Israel to proclaim the steadfastness of God's love, he testified that when he was hard-pressed, God rescued and placed him in a spacious place. By that experience, he declared that God was always with him and as such he had nothing to fear. He further declared that it is better to put confidence in God than in humans or princes (vv. 8-9).

The unchanging nature of God would not make Him cease to love the world, especially His children. His love for everyone makes Him to give them rain and sun. More than the universal love He has for everyone, every believer enjoys a kind of love that cannot fully be comprehended. That love is the one borne out of His will to save the world. However, it is only those who receive Him that will be kept by His love to spend eternity with Him.

*Perceive:* God so loves the world.

*Ponder:* How do you reciprocate God's steadfast love?

*Practice:* Spend some time today to appreciate God for His expressions of love to you and your family. .

💊TODAY'S TOPIC:
*KEEP THE FESTIVAL WHERE GOD CHOOSES.*

*📖 Bible Text:*
Deuteronomy 16:1-8, 15-17, NLT:-
🖍️🖍️🖍️🖍️🖍️🖍️🖍️
1. “In honor of the Lord your God, celebrate the Passover each year in the early spring, in the month of Abib, for that was the month in which the Lord your God brought you out of Egypt by night.

2 Your Passover sacrifice may be from either the flock or the herd, and it must be sacrificed to the Lord your God at the designated place of worship—the place he chooses for his name to be honored.

3 Eat it with bread made without yeast. For seven days the bread you eat must be made without yeast, as when you escaped from Egypt in such a hurry. Eat this bread—the bread of suffering—so that as long as you live you will remember the day you departed from Egypt.

4 Let no yeast be found in any house throughout your land for those seven days. And when you sacrifice the Passover lamb on the evening of the first day, do not let any of the meat remain until the next morning.

5 “You may not sacrifice the Passover in just any of the towns that the Lord your God is giving you.

6 You must offer it only at the designated place of worship—the place the Lord your God chooses for his name to be honored. Sacrifice it there in the evening as the sun goes down on the anniversary of your exodus from Egypt.

7 Roast the lamb and eat it in the place the Lord your God chooses. Then you may go back to your tents the next morning.

8 For the next six days you may not eat any bread made with yeast. On the seventh day proclaim another holy day in honor of the Lord your God, and no work may be done on that day.

15 For seven days you must celebrate this festival to honor the Lord your God at the place he chooses, for it is he who blesses you with bountiful harvests and gives you success in all your work. This festival will be a time of great joy for all.

16 “Each year every man in Israel must celebrate these three festivals: the Festival of Unleavened Bread, the Festival of Harvest, and the Festival of Shelters. On each of these occasions, all men must appear before the Lord your God at the place he chooses, but they must not appear before the Lord without a gift for him.

17 All must give as they are able, according to the blessings given to them by the Lord your God.

*Hymn:* 'O Worship the King' - BH 20

*RBT Passage:* 2 Samuel 14-16.

*🔑 Memory Verse:*
_"Except in the place he will choose as a dwelling for his Name. There you must sacrifice the Passover in the evening, when the sun goes down...." *Deuteronomy 16:6, NIV.*_

*📗 The MESSAGE:*
There are several festivals in different societies all over the world. Oftentimes, festivals are usually meant to be a means to celebrate past heroes, to remind people of a unique experience in the past, or to inculcate a particular tradition of significance.

God instructed Israel to keep annual feasts that would remind them of His mercy and intervention at different points in their history. One of these feasts is the Passover, which commemorates their deliverance from slavery in Egypt (Exodus 12:4-20). They were admonished to congregate for worship at a designated place where the Passover lamb would be killed and eaten (Deuteronomy 16:6). All Israelite males were to appear three times a year at the Feast of Unleavened Bread, Feast of Weeks and Feast of Tabernacles. They were required to offer offerings at each of the period of worship according to their ability.

Every worship experience must be observed in sincerity, consciousness of their sacredness and as an avenue to engage with God. Meeting God's standard in worship is significant as the Passover pointed to Jesus. He is the fulfilment of the Passover. We should eagerly embrace and look forward to the Lord's Supper instead of trying to go back to that which was before and merely pointed to that which is now to us a reality in Christ Jesus.

Such sacred worship should be done with reverence and orderliness. We should count it a privilege to participate at the table of the Lord, whenever we have the opportunity.

*Perceive:* Every worshp opportunity must be observed in sincereity as an avenue to engag ewith God

*Ponder:* Do you worship God in spirit and in truth?

1 I love the Lord because he hears my voice

2 Because he bends down to listen,

*RBT Passage:* 2 Samuel 12-13.

*🔑 Memory Verse:*
_"The LORD is gracious and righteous; our God is full of compassion." *Psalm 116:5 NIV.*_

*📗 The MESSAGE:*
John Wesley, in one of his sermons on God's attribute, said 'First I preach the law and then I sprinkle it with grace. He understood that grace, mercy and love of God must be taught alongside His justice and righteousness, if a fully or bed presentation of the Gospel is to be made.

Today, the psalmist called on God out of distress and great difficulty. He recounted how God saved him and heard his voice for mercy, when he come face to face with death. The psalmist shared the testimony of God's gracious acts, compassion, salvation and righteousness.

God, by nature, is faithful. He shows up whenever His children call on Him. He feels for us, especially in our challenging times. He also expects us to call on Him and not confront our troubles by ourselves because we cannot survive without Him. As much as God is merciful, He expects us to live up to His standard. There are several testimonies today of how God has delivered people from sicknesses, perils and discomforts. This means that God has not changed; He is compassionate Lord. He is ready to rescue anyone who calls on Him for help. Do you have a testimony about God considering your experiences in this journey of faith? Trust in Him because He is reliable. He will be compassionate to you too.

*Perceive:* God has not changed He is a compassionate Lord.

*Ponder:* Who do you turn to in your time of distress?

*FOLLOWING JESUS*

*Memory Verse:* “When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus.” *John 1:37, NIV*

*John 1:35-37*

1:35 The next day John was there again with two of his disciples.

1:36 When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, "Look, the Lamb of God!"

1:37 When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus.
________________

Billy Graham says: “Being a Christian is more than just an instantaneous conversion – it is a daily process whereby you grow to be more and more like Christ.”

We have some problems associated with Christianity in modern time.

Some people got converted but never grew into Christ-likeness because they refused to follow Jesus; some got converted but only followed Jesus partially and so their growth is partial; and others got converted, began to follow Jesus but later stopped. So their growth stopped.

The implication is that we are failing in representing Christ and the world cannot really see Jesus in us.

We tend to project another version of Jesus to the world, the One that we have reformed and redefined. The Jesus that we present to the world seems to be a Jesus that follows us.

Jesus is not to follow you. Rather, you are to follow Him. It doesn’t matter your culture, tradition, civilization, or socio-economic status. You are not called to make Jesus conform to your civilization or to your status and class.

You are rather called to follow Jesus, be like Him and let all that comes in contact with you see Him in you always. Let your ways and lifestyle be not contrary to that of Christ.

*Insight:* We are not called to modernize Jesus in the 21st century. He is Lord in all generations!

*Prayer:* Lord, help me to conform to Your will and follow you daily.

*GIFTS OF THE SPIRIT*

*Memory Verse:* “All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.” *1 Corinthians 12:11, NIV*

*1 Corinthians 12:4-11*
12:4 There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit.

12:5 There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord.

12:6 There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men.

12:7 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.

12:8 To one there is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit,

12:9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit,

12:10 to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues.

12:11 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines.

So also is the Holy Spirit who gives diverse gifts to Christians. He gives some ministries and others gifts such as word of wisdom, faith, healing virtues, working of miracles, prophecy, and different kind of tongues, among others.

The same Spirit distributes various gifts as He wills and gives each one so that everyone that has accepted Christ as Lord and personal Savour may benefit from all.

*Ephesians 2:8-10*

2:8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God--

2:9 not by works, so that no one can boast.

2:10 For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
______________

A guest minister at a Fellowship spent more than two-third of the time allotted him, talking about himself and ministry’s exploits. Many students were disappointed for he did not proclaim Jesus but himself.

Salvation cannot be earned by the effort of man. We are saved purely by the grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ.

Anyone who boasts about his/her work of salvation does not actually know the essence of salvation. Salvation is a finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary.

No one can attain salvation by flesh but by grace of God. One of the clear evidence of salvation is humility. Anyone still exhibiting pride and human ego has not really known the Lord.

Are you feeling proud about your salvation and achievements on your Christian journey and activities? The Devil may be at work. The closer we are to Christ, the more we appreciate the work of our salvation, the more humble we become.

Stop boasting about anything; no one deserves salvation and mercy of God. It is by grace of God that we are saved.

*Insight:* Appreciate God for your salvation and live the rest of your life in humility.

*Prayer:* Lord help me to be humble and live the rest of my life to the glory of God alone.

In human relationship, there is no way we will not hurt one another. It is possible we step on one another's toes as we relate.

Because the church is made up of human beings from different backgrounds, conflicts sometimes become inevitable in the church. How then do we resolve conflicts when they arise?

In today's text, Jesus Christ gave instruction for believers to follow in resolving differences and conflicts among themselves. The first step is to tell the erring person the offence, just between the two parties.

This step becomes necessary so as to strengthen the cord of fellowship. If this does not work, involve one or two other mature brethren, so that the matter may be establ

Bill Gates explains why his daughter can’t marry a poor man.

A few years ago I attended a conference in the United States on investment and finance. One of the speakers was Bill Gates and during the question and answer phase, I asked him a question that had everyone laughing:
If he, the richest man in the world, could accept his daughter marry a poor or modest man. His answer changed something in me.

Bill: First of all, understand that wealth does not mean having a fat bank account.
Wealth is primarily the ability to create wealth.
Example: Someone who wins the lottery or gambling. Even if he wins 100 millions is not a rich man: He is a poor man with a lot of money, that's the reason why 90% of the lottery millionaires become poor again after 5 years.
You also have rich people who have no money. For example, most entrepreneurs.
THEY are already on the road to wealth even though they have no money, because they are developing their financial intelligence and that is wealth.
How are the rich and the poor different?
To put it simply: The rich may die to become rich, while the poor may kill to become rich.
If you see a young person who decides to train, to learn new things, who tries to improve himself constantly, know that he is a rich man.
If you see a young person who thinks that the problem is the state, and who thinks that the rich are all thieves and who criticizes constantly, know that he is a poor man.
The rich are convinced that they just need information and training to take off, the poor think that others must give them money to take off.
In conclusion, when I say that my daughter will not marry a poor man, I am not talking about money. I'm talking about the ability to create wealth in that man.
Excuse me for saying this, but most criminals are poor people. When they are in front of money, they lose their mind, that's why they rob, steal etc...
For them it is a grace because they don't know how they could earn money by themselves.
One day, the guard of a bank found a bag full of money, he took the bag and went to give it to the bank manager.
People called this man an idiot, but in reality this man was just a rich man who had no money.
One year later, the bank offered him a job as a receptionist, 3 years later he was a customer manager and 10 years later he manages the regional management of this bank, he manages hundreds of employees and his annual bonus exceeds the amount he could have stolen.

Wealth is first of all a state of mind my friend.
