DON’T ALLOW ANYONE TO DECIDE YOU (Fr. Stan-Collins Ubaka)

In Acts of the Apostles 13:44–50, almost the whole city gathered to hear the word of God. It should have been a moment of celebration—but it became a moment of division.
As the crowd increased, so did resistance. Some people became uncomfortable. The Jews, filled with jealousy, began to oppose Paul the Apostle and Barnabas. They contradicted the message—not because it was false, but because it was powerful.

At the same time, the Gentiles rejoiced. They received the word with gladness, and many believed.
Same message—different hearts. Different responses. Different outcomes.

This is the reality of life, and even the reality of the church. Not everyone who gathers has the same spirit. Not everyone who listens has the same intention. Some came to be transformed. Others came to find fault. Some came to grow. Others came to resist growth. Some came to hear God. Others came to oppose what God is doing. So don’t be surprised. And don’t be careless.

There are voices that build faith—and there are voices that break it.
There are people who celebrate your growth—and there are people who are threatened by it. There are influences that bring clarity—and there are influences that bring confusion.

This is why you must be discerning.
Don’t allow anyone to decide you.
Don’t allow people’s jealousy to redefine your direction. Don’t allow criticism to silence your conviction.
Don’t allow negative voices to weaken what God has built in you.
Because what you consistently hear will eventually shape what you believe.

Guard your faith. Faith is precious—and if you are not careful, it can be polluted. Be careful who you listen to. Be careful what you entertain.
Be careful what you allow into your heart. Remember how far God has brought you.

Remember the prayers you have prayed. Remember the sacrifices you have made. Remember the encounters that changed your life.
You have invested too much to let the wrong voice derail you now.
Even when Paul the Apostle and Barnabas were opposed and driven out, the word of God continued to spread. Opposition did not stop the move of God—it only revealed the condition of hearts.

So when you face resistance, don’t be shaken. When you hear criticism, don’t be distracted. Stay rooted in God. Stay focused on His word.
Stay faithful to His calling. And above all— Don’t allow anyone to decide who you become in God.

Day 30, April, Thursday 2026 (WHITE)
(Readings for Mass: Acts 1:12-14/Lk 1:46-55/John 2:1-11)
OUR LADYMOTHER OF AFRICA (FEAST)

THEME: I BELIEVE PRAYER MAKES ALL THINGS POSSIBLE
READ: John 2:1-11
Key Scripture: And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine. [4] Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come. [5] His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it (John 2:3-5 KJV).

REFLECTION
The first miracle of Jesus Christ unfolded at a wedding in Cana—and it was prompted by the quiet intervention of His mother, Mary (Gospel of John 2:1–11). In the middle of celebration, the wine ran out. In that culture, such a shortage was more than an inconvenience; it was a deep social embarrassment. Guests were still arriving, and the hosts had nothing left to offer. Mary approached Jesus with a simple statement: “They have no wine.” She did not dictate a solution. She did not dramatize the crisis. She merely presented the need. Jesus’ reply might have discouraged anyone else: “Woman, what does this have to do with Me? My hour has not yet come.” It sounded like a refusal—or at least a delay. Yet Mary did not argue, defend, or withdraw. Instead, she turned to the servants and said, “Do whatever He tells you.” What confidence. What trust. How did she know He would act? How did she know the moment would shift? Mary understood something profound: when a need is placed in the hands of Jesus, possibility begins. Her faith did not rest on explanation; it rested on relationship. Mary teaches us that prayer is not always long speeches or dramatic appeals. Sometimes it is simply presenting the lack to Christ and trusting Him to respond. She models persistent faith—faith that does not retreat at the first sign of resistance. The result was extraordinary. Water became wine. Shame became testimony. Crisis became miracle. Prayer positions us where impossibilities bend. It opens doors that seem closed. It invites divine intervention into human limitation.

PRAYER
1. Father, thank you for teaching me to pray and showing me the power of prayer.
2. Lord, rewire my thinking and expectations so that I would have more reasons to hold on than to give up.
3. Help me, Father, to trust in your power and ability to perform miracles, even when it seems impossible (John 2:5). May my faith be strengthened as I wait for your intervention.
4. Teach me, Lord, to obey your instructions without hesitation, just as the disciples obeyed Mary's instruction to do whatever Jesus told them (John 2:5). May I surrender my will to yours.
5. Father, grant me wisdom, to know when to intervene and when to wait. May I have the discernment to know your will and timing (James 1:5).
6. Lord, increase my faith in your power to perform miracles. May I never doubt your ability to intervene in any situation (Matthew 19:26).
7. Father, guide me, as I navigate life's challenges. May I seek your guidance and wisdom in all things (Proverbs 3:5-6).
8. Lord, teach me persist in prayer, even when the answer seems delayed. May I continue to bring my requests before you, trusting in your goodness and power (Luke 18:1-8).
9. (Add other personal intentions).
10. Conclude with Psalm: 34

Day 29, April, Wednesday 2026 (WHITE)
(Readings for Mass: Acts 12:24—13:5a/Jn 12:44-50)
ST CATHERINE OF SIENA, V.D (MEMORIAL)

THEME: HOLY SPIRIT, CONNECT ME TO MY DIVINE ASSIGNMENT
READ: Acts 12:24-13:5
Key Scripture: While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” (Acts 13:2)

REFLECTION
I am convinced that every person on earth carries a divine assignment. No one arrives here by accident, and God does not send anyone into the world to wander aimlessly among endless possibilities. What we often call destiny is, in essence, that God-given purpose. There is a specific contribution you were created to make, a unique question your life is meant to answer. That is your portion in shaping the world for good. Some have discovered theirs; many are still searching. Have you discovered yours? Paul the Apostle and Barnabas discerned their assignment in an atmosphere of prayer. As the believers worshiped and fasted, the Holy Spirit spoke: “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them” (Acts of the Apostles 13:2). Their direction emerged not from ambition, but from communion. Beyond your overarching life mission, there are also daily directives—assignments within the greater assignment. Throughout his ministry, the Holy Spirit repeatedly guided Paul, redirecting his steps and shaping his decisions. Such guidance requires closeness. The Spirit alone can reveal your true mission and connect you to it. Yet many of us launch new ventures without seeking His counsel. We assume God endorses our choices even when we have not invited Him into the decision. But not every good idea is God’s plan for you. What appears promising may not align with your calling. Therefore, seek His direction deliberately. Bring your plans before Him. Stay near enough to hear His voice. Destiny unfolds most clearly in the presence of the One who designed it.

PRAYER
1. Lord, open my eyes to see where you are pointing for me.
2. Holy Spirit, reveal my mission on earth to me.
3. Dear Holy Spirit, please lead me to fulfill my God-given assignments.
4. Holy Spirit, assist and guide me through every situation I face in life, so that I may remain on track.
5. Dear Lord, help me to discover my niche and work on earth.
6. Holy Spirit, if I am on a wrong track, help me to change direction, and reconnect myself to your plans for me.
7. Dear Holy Spirit, clear all doubts and help me to make life choices in accordance to your will.
8. Let every confusion in my life be totally destroyed in Jesus name.
9. Father, may I not die without fulfilling my life’s purpose.
10. Lord, I need you to speak to me concerning my future; concerning my destiny, concerning my divine assignments.
11. Holy Spirit, please help me to discover who I am in this world and who God has called me to be.
12. Lord, grant me the Spirit to resist the manipulations of the devil and undertake a project not signed by you.
13. Holy Spirit, please reshape me to become the real person you made me to be.
14. Father, help me to drop all assignments that didn’t come from you. Show me the right ones to undertake.
15. I beg you Lord to connect me to the right people I need, to do the right things. Raise up for me divine helpers for the assignments you have for me.
16. Lord, grant me the needed capacity to carry out your assignments.
17. (Add other personal intentions).
18. Conclude with Psalm: 67

FOURTH WEEK OF EASTER

THEME: LORD, GIVE ME THE VIRTUE THAT WILL DRAW PEOPLE TO YOU
READ: Acts 11:19-26
Key Scripture: He was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and faith, and a great number of people were brought to the Lord (Acts 11:24)

REFLECTION
Scripture describes Barnabas in these remarkable words: “He was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and of faith, and a great many people were brought to the Lord” (Acts of the Apostles 11:24). What a testimony. Barnabas was more than a leader; he was an encourager. He strengthened believers in difficult seasons, celebrated their perseverance, and lifted up those who were weak. Where others might have criticized or withdrawn, he affirmed and built up. His presence brought stability in unstable times. Guided by the Holy Spirit, he discerned what the church needed. When the work began to expand, he sought out Paul the Apostle and brought him alongside, recognizing the grace upon his life. That decision required humility, wisdom, and faith. Barnabas saw potential where others had seen doubt. His faith helped quiet the unbelief that could have hindered growth. During a season of pressure and persecution, his goodness became a cushion against discouragement. Instead of driving people away, his character drew them closer to the Lord. At a time when many might have turned back, many were added to the faith. Such impact was not accidental. It flowed from a life rooted in fellowship with God. Barnabas could not have been full of the Holy Spirit and faith without spending time in God’s presence. His public fruit was the result of private communion. If we desire our lives to draw others toward God—so that they choose to serve Him regardless of circumstances—we must cultivate that same depth. Influence that endures is born from intimacy with God. Let us therefore commit ourselves to seeking His presence wholeheartedly. In doing so, our lives too will become instruments that bring many to the Lord.

PRAYER
1. Father, fill me with the hunger to bring people to you. Lord, make me righteous.
2. Father, you said I am the light of the world, I receive the grace to shine upon other people.
3. Dear Lord, use me to dispel every darkness in my environment.
4. I receive the grace to become a fisher of men.
5. Lord, use me to impart salvation on other people.
6. Lord, help me to conquer every weakness in me.
7. Whatever character in me that will discourage someone’s faith, I destroy it.
8. Lord, your instruction to me is ‘Go into the whole world and make disciples of all nations”. I receive the grace to make disciples for you.
9. Father, you gave your servant Barnabas the grace of encouraging people. Lord, use me to encourage people whose faith is weak.
10. Father, use me to discourage someone from committing sin
11. Lord, use me to teach someone to be more prayerful.
12. Father, use me to empower the faith of those around me.
13. I refuse to be used by the devil in any way. Rather, I declare myself an instrument in the hand of God.
14. Father, give me your spirit.
15. (Add other personal intentions).
16. Conclude with Psalm: 87
