PAUL'S TRIALS BEFORE THE JEWISH AND ROMAN AUTHORITIES

(ACTS 23–26)

A Historical, Legal, and Spiritual Expository Study — with Practical Lessons for Believers Facing Persecution Today, in Nigeria and Beyond

Main Text: Acts 23–26

Memory Verse:

"And the night following the Lord stood by him, and said, Be of good cheer, Paul: for as thou hast testified of me in Jerusalem, so must thou bear witness also at Rome." — Acts 23:11

INTRODUCTION

The account of Paul's trials in Acts 23–26 is one of the most remarkable courtroom narratives in the New Testament. It presents Paul standing before the Jewish Sanhedrin, Governor Felix, Governor Festus, and King Agrippa II. Although falsely accused, imprisoned for about two years, and subjected to political manipulation, Paul remained steadfast because he trusted God's promise and maintained a clear conscience before God and men.

These chapters are not merely historical records; they are inspired lessons on Christian courage, integrity, lawful conduct, the proper use of legal rights, and unwavering faith under persecution. Every believer, minister, Christian worker, lawyer, judge, government official, employer, employee, and student can learn valuable lessons from Paul's example.

Throughout these trials, Paul was never found guilty of any offence deserving death or imprisonment. Instead, his trials became opportunities to preach Christ before kings, governors, military officers, and influential leaders, fulfilling the Lord's promise that he would bear witness even in Rome.

This study speaks directly into our own day. Across Nigeria and other parts of Africa, believers continue to face hostility for their faith — from violent extremism in some regions to subtler pressures of discrimination, marginalisation, and injustice in institutions. Paul's example instructs the modern Nigerian Christian on how to stand firm, live blamelessly, use lawful

THE CAUSES, CONSEQUENCES AND CURE OF ENVY IN CHURCH MEMBERS
A Bible Message Based on 1 Samuel 18:9-11

BACKGROUND TEXT: 1 SAMUEL 18:9-11 (KJV)
"And Saul eyed David from that day and forward." - 1 Samuel 18:9
"And it came to pass on the morrow, that the evil spirit from God came upon Saul, and he prophesied in the midst of the house: and David played with his hand, as at other times: and there was a javelin in Saul's hand. And Saul cast the javelin; for he said, I will smite David even to the wall with it. And David avoided out of his presence twice." - 1 Samuel 18:10-11
Setting: The women of Israel had just sung a song: Saul has slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands. One song. One comparison. That was all it took. Envy entered the heart of King Saul that day and it never left. It turned an anointed king into a murderer. It cost him his throne, his peace, his family, and his life. Let the church learn from his story tonight.
INTRODUCTION
Beloved church members, we are gathered tonight to examine one of the most dangerous sins that attacks the body of Christ from the inside. It is not a sin that people talk about often. It is quiet. It is hidden. You will not see it written on a person's face. But it works like a slow poison in the bones of whoever carries it.
That sin is called ENVY.
Envy is different from jealousy. Jealousy says: I am afraid to lose what I already have. But envy says: I am in pain because you have something I do not have. Envy sees another member of the church prosper, get promoted, get blessed, or get praised, and instead of rejoicing, it feels bitter pain. Envy says: why them and not me?
The Bible has a great deal to say about envy. Tonight we will look at three things. First, what causes envy in church members and how church members perceive it. Second, what are the consequences and punishment of envy in church members. Third, what is the cure and how
