Shepherded: Dangerous Dimensions

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: Ps 23:4
On the 26th May 2008, I boarded a bus at the park, heading to Ogbomoso from Lagos. All seemed well till the bus began to show signs of fault; the driver managed and patched on the problem till it degenerated into full blown brake failure, in a matter of minutes, it ran into a bad portion on the express, and then, boom, chaos erupted; people started shouting and screaming. The vehicle had lost control, I couldn’t think of anything, I was calm; finally, it ended up in a roadside ditch, damaging other cars in the process…thankfully, I came out alive with minimal injury.

In the 91st psalm, the psalmist talks about the 'terror by night', ‘arrow that flies by day’; he further talks about the ‘pestilence that walks in the darkness’, ‘destruction that wastes at noon day’ and concludes it with people falling on every side, Ps 91:5-7. All these suggest dangers that lurk around us.

As you walk through life, you will discover that there are unfriendly dimensions in life. There are unfriendly zones, hateful times, destiny repulsive people and situations that confront you. The psalmist termed them 'the valley of the shadow of death'. You might sometimes find yourself in unsafe environments, where only a miracle can deliver you into safety, at other times, it may be a life threatening situation that requires nothing short of a miracle

There might be times that you would struggle; the struggles might be financial, career, matrimonial or even material. These struggles do not essentially indicate a lack of God's presence, protection, care or love, rather, reminiscent of the world that we live in.

Here’s what to do: Act out your belief (faith). The Psalmist said ‘I will fear no evil’. The whole essence of your build in the Lord is to prepare you to take on life. Trust in the Lord with…Prov 3:5-6. When faced with uncertainty, trust God.

May the Lord empower you with graces today. Amen

Shepherded: Staked on Him

He leads me on the paths of righteousness for his name sake

Have you ever stood as surety for anyone, especially one whose character is questionable or whose persona exude unreliability? This pictures the strange condition that God works in. He stands for us even though we aren’t reliable as yet; we are untrustworthy, yet, He put His name on the line. God wants you to make it at His expense, he wants you to get it right at His expense, the psalmist said ‘for his name sake’.

One proof of God’s love is His faithfulness. Faithfulness is an unwavering commitment to a word, person or cause. God is committed to every individual on earth, God loves you, Jn 3:16; we know and become conscious of His love as we grow in our walk with Him, 1 Jn 3:1.

When God leads men, it is always on the right path, Ps 23:3. He leads them in paths that will end in the right places for them; rightful living, right families, careers, relationships, and choices. This is one reason why God is interested in your affairs; the reason He wants to lead and help you navigate through life. Only God can lead men through and to life’s right paths.

In life’s terrain, there are both familiar and unfamiliar paths. You would come to these at some points; there are times that you feel that you know how to deal with or handle things, you feel like you are in charge, but at other times, you feel completely estranged; in either, Trust in the Lord and lean not on your understanding.

God staked it all to ensure that you get it right, and that is the strong point for a righteous destination for you, God is extremely committed to your right landing.

Shepherded: Righteous Lead

He leads me in the paths of righteousness... Psa 23:3

It's amazing how children believe all that they are told. The biggest request I made from my parents as a kid was a bicycle, I desired it so much, I was ready to do as I was told. I would get an assurance every time in exchange for being studious. Hardworking and obedient; Every time they promised, I believed, but it never materialized in the end. All children believe in their parents and accept everything from them as true.

God is still interested in leading men, especially you! When God leads men, it is always in the paths of righteousness. The path of righteousness is an assured direction that leads one in the right way, to the right destination, place, people, and result.

In life's course and journey, there are many stops, paths, junctions but one destination. The best way to be sure that you are on the right path is to check who is leading you, the Lord or whom? If it is the Lord, there is the assurance of rightness.

Every believer has a higher chance to get it right than wrong because of the Lord's Shepherd ship. Do you love the Lord, are you born again, do you have set times of fellowship, do you treasure His voice and leadership?

So, are you confused? How do you get it right in life and destiny? Check the leadership that you are given to. Submit yourself to the Lord

He leads me...

Shepherded: Restored Soul
He restores my soul...Psa 2:3

About twenty-eight (28) years ago, while conversing with my father, I said 'you are growing old' surprised, He said ‘yes’, rather excitedly, then I said ‘you will die’ he was shocked. I never wanted him to die and was scared at the prospect of aging and death. My thought used to run wild, I’d think deeply about everything I saw and heard; it was weird. These thoughts often got me worried instead of being excited. I would later understand how the mind works and how to guard it against destructive elements.

There is a continuing work that God does in us, this work is ‘the renewing of the mind' Rom 12:2 and it will continue till the redemption of the body, Rom 8:23. The soul is a critical part of every human; it interfaces between the spirit and body of man; it is the seat of understanding, will, and emotions.

When the soul was activated in Genesis; Gen 2:7, it was a living soul, man became a living soul meaning that it was responsive to God's Spirit via the human spirit. The soul was in perfect sync with the spirit and was able to instruct the body and make the best decisions in line with God's will, Rom 8:6.

The fall of man brought man into another reality Rom 3:23, sinful, carnal, and sensual, thereby becoming God’s enemy Ja 4:4. We became self/sense dependent; the mind became carnal, it depended on the senses/flesh to discern life. This model was patterned after the god of this world 2 Cor 4:4 who ruled man from without to within.

This soul needed to be saved, the process began with the completion of Christ’s sacrifice on the cross and continues daily with the cleansing by the word, hence the psalmist’s affirmative confession, ‘He restores my soul’ which is a continuous action, and this means that it is an ongoing process.

You are a work in progress.

Shepherded: The Green pastures
He makes me lie down in green pasture; he leads me beside the still waters...Ps 23:2

Growing up, I loved my father and believed in him a lot; he was the most knowledgeable person I knew, he was my encyclopedia as he seemed to have an answer to every question and an opinion on every subject. The most interesting part was my knowledge and perception of his plans for me; he would tell about the amount that he was saving up for us while we were yet children; this and many more made me look forward to a future of plenty.

When God directs your affairs, His destination is the green life, Jer 29:11. The Psalmist declared He makes me lie down in green pasture; he leads me beside the still waters. The scripture brings assurances in three basic things; Rest, Hunger, and Thirst. You shall find rest for your soul when entrusted to the savior Mt 11:29, hunger and thirst are taken care of when you are His, Ps 34:10. You needn’t suffer any dryness or when under the leadership of the good shepherd.

Now, you might be going through trying times or faced with tough circumstances as are the tides of life sometimes, the shepherd would lead you through till you are rested in a convenient place.

The Psalmist was only able to conveniently tell about this gracious provision because he had a personal encounter with the shepherd and he knew what he benefitted from his submission to the shepherd. Do you know the Lord? Are you submitted to Him?

Whom you submit to matters as it determines what your eventual life out turn would be. Are you hungry; are you thirsty, do you seek rest for your soul?

The shepherd is still available, Jesus is yet calling…

He makes me lie down… In other words, my shepherd makes me lie down.

While preparing for my youth service, I had two options, the first was to await the commission’s official posting, and the second was to influence the posting. I decided to influence the posting; however, I called an aunt whom I loved and respected, seeking her opinion about the matter. Aunt T outrightly told me to drop the idea, she was instructive, I obeyed and in the end, I was glad.

If we would land safely in destiny port, then we must be guided, we need to be guided rightly always. There must be that figure that we are submitted to, one who is able to hold us accountable or in other words, one whom we are accountable to. There are certain times in our lives where we need to come down from our lofty heights, there must be figures in our lives that can humble us. The Psalmist praised His shepherd, who makes him lie down.

There is a proverbial saying amongst the Yoruba people in Nigeria, it goes thus, ‘the dog that would get lost does not heed the whistle of the hunter’ this means that anyone that doesn’t heed instruction is headed for destruction. Who is that one person whose language you understand, whose chastisement you cherish. One proof of your submission to the shepherd is your submission to his messengers/servants.

Whom do you submit to? Who calls you to order? Who makes you lie?

Jesus?

The Lord is my Shepherd… Ps 23:1.

When I carried my first son for the first time after his birth, I had a very strange yet exciting feeling, I felt so connected and bonded to the young innocent one who had barely opened his eyes, I still cannot explain it. I afterwards imagined how the father feels towards us especially when a soul returns to the love of the father.

Notice the usage of personal pronouns in the chapter (Psalm 23). The use of the pronouns me, my, and I is predominant.

Notice also, how the psalmist speaks confidently about His shepherd, firstly in the ability of the shepherd, then, then his experience with the shepherd and lastly his personal encounter with the shepherd. These point in a particular direction; one of a close-knit relationship and fellowship with the shepherd.

There must be an existent bond between the shepherd and the sheep, a bond so strong that you become so used to Him, an unusual closeness that makes you to know His way and know His person beyond confusion. There must be unbroken fellowship between the Lord and you.

Have you established contact with the shepherd, have you commended your life to him, are you submitted as yet, have you bonded?

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want… Ps 23:1

The Psalmist, David declared ‘the Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want’. In this, he points out one of the benefits of being shepherded by the Lord. Being under the Lord’s care, leadership and discipline is a cover from life’s many hazards.

‘I shall not want’. Some translations have interpreted this to mean that my needs are being met; I shall not lack anything good, in this the essence of this scripture is captured. When the Lord is your shepherd, there is a unique provision to meet your needs already, Paul puts it this way ‘and my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory through Christ Jesus’ Phil 4:19.

Have you committed yourself to the Lord, have you committed your ways to Him, are you under His cover; if your answer is yes, be assured, there is God’s provision awaiting you. David says further ’young lions do lack and suffer hunger, but they that seek the Lord shall not want any good thing’ Ps 34:10

The confidence with which this was uttered is mind-blowing; as you grow in fellowship with the shepherd, your confidence in Him increases. Beloved, Jesus awaits you, you need the good shepherd.

Are you in need, get to the shepherd, call upon Him, pray, there is provision already, call it out, the shepherd cares

YOU ARE BLESSED

Blessed shall be thy basket and thy store Deut 28:5

God’s love cannot be quantified; it passes boundaries, expectations, and expressions. The love of the Lord caters for all and is for all. One of the Love’s expressions is the blessing; the blessing is a spiritual empowerment to prosper.

God wants you to prosper, He wants to empower you and increase you in all ramifications. This act of God also reminds us of His faithfulness to His beloved. Do you know the Lord, do you love the Lord?

Your Basket: The basket represents a place of temporal storage, and this signifies immediate provision, this means that God is committed to providing for your daily needs. That’s why the scriptures say that He daily loads us with benefits. God is committed to your daily living, enjoy God today.

Your Store: The store represents a place of temporal or long storage, and this signifies permanent or life-long provision, this means that God is committed to your lifelong provision; God has got your entire life covered. You have an assured future in Christ, God is your security.

God has got you covered, He is committed to your daily life and life long living
