September 2013:
A Season to Recover All
Text: 1 Samuel 30:1-18
This month of September marks the beginning of what is tagged as the ‘ember’ months in this part of the world. It is also the threshold, the gate of the last quarter of the year. And so, it is a very important month for believers.
In the text above, the Amalekites visited Ziklag when the men were not at home and routed it. They plundered, looted the tents and got bountiful spoils. As David and his men were not available at home for legitimate reasons, no resistance was made by the women, the children, and the refugees who were with David. David and his men arrived, deeply grieved and bitter, yet he, David, strengthened himself in Jehovah. He asked the priest, Abiathar to ask counsel and guidance of God by ephod.
God gave instructions through Abiathar. Abiathar responded, ‘Pursue, for you shall surely overtake them and without fail recover all’. David attacked the Amalekites where they were partying and he and his men recovered their wives and possessions. For David, it was a total victory and also a profitable one as David took the wealth and b***y of the Amalekites. He recovered all.
At this juncture, it may appear to you as if that which God promised at the beginning of this year wherein He declared that He would be gracious unto His sons and daughters is not forthcoming; God is not careless with His word. He is not a careless God. Whatever He promises He will do. David did not despair but trusted wholly in God to help him out. God helped him. God also gave David wisdom to know what to do, and the strength to do it.He and his men were weary and appeared forlorn, but the Lord enabled them. Hope was restored, confidence was boosted.
God’s promise of His graciousness to you this year still stands. You must insist on this consistently. You will surely possess your possession. You will surely recover all. Welcome to your season of total recovery!!
