BIBLE STUDY – SPIRITUAL GIFTS (series)
THE REVELATORY GIFTS
Bible Scripture: 1 Corinthians 12:7
But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
Read; 1 Corinthians 12:4-32
Introduction: Beginning from today, we will study the manifestation gifts mentioned in 1 cor 12:7-12 one by one. We will define them and study how they operate. The goal is to ensure everyone in the congregation discover the gift the Lord has bestowed upon them and also to impact the congregation with spiritual gifts in order for them to propagate the gospel with the demonstration of the spirit and power.
We will study each one of them as they were mentioned 1 Corinthians 12-7-12
1. Word of Wisdom: Word of wisdom is categorized among the revelatory gift of the Holy Spirit given to the body of Christ. Being a revelatory gift suggests to us that it is a dimension of wisdom that is revealed. It is impacted upon us by the Spirit of God. This is a kind of wisdom that cannot be earned by studying or research. It is the wisdom of God impacted.
The bible mentioned three kind of wisdom;
a. The wisdom of God Romans 11:33-35
b. The wisdom of man 1 cor 2:5
c. The wisdom of this world 1 cor 3:19
The wisdom of God is unsearchable. Therefore you cannot get it simply by reading. It is impacted.
HOW DOES IT OPERATE
I. It reveals the future in a prophetic manner.
ii. It is reveals hidden truth of what is not known
iii. It gives a supernatural perspective to ascertain the divine means for accomplishing God’s will in a given situation.
iv. it is a divinely given power to appropriate spiritual intuition in problem solving.
v. It gives divine direction being led by the Spirit to act appropriately in a given circumstances and rightly applying knowledge.
vi. The gift work with other two gifts – word of knowledge and discerning of spirit
In summary it is a supernatural impartation of facts, guidance, and solution.
2. Word of Knowledge: This gift supernaturally allows believers to know certain things about a situation or a person. It is not to be used to take advantage of the situation or the person for personal gain, but to bring light. Counsel and direction to the person.
We see Jesus express this gifts in several ways: John 1:48, John 4:16-18.Mathew 16:17, etc
HOW DOES IT OPERATE
There are five ways word of knowledge is received
i. Through sight - Dan 5:5
ii. Through knowing – Matt 9:4-6
iii. Through hearing – Acts 9:7
iv. Through senses – 2 Sam 5:23-24
v. Through the spoken word – Luke 4:1
3. Discerning of Spirit: According to spiritualgifttest.com, “The spiritual gift of discernment is also known as the gift of “discernment of spirits” or “distinguishing between spirits.” The Greek word for the gift of discernment is Diakrisis. The word describes being able to distinguish, discern, judge, or appraise a person, statement, situation, or environment.
Discernment is the ability to JUDGE WELL. It is “knowing” correctly the motivation, intention, or the spirit behind a person, a statement, situation or environment. It also affects our choices and interactions. Heb 5:14, 1 John 4:1, Romans 12:2, 1 kings 3:9, 1 Thess 5:21, Heb 4:12.
HOW DOES IT OPERATE
The gift operates alongside the other two revelatory gifts and has similar mode of operation. It comes as perception, intuition, knowing, a feeling, etc inspired by The Spirit of God. Acts 16:16-34, Mathew 16:23
