Proverbs 12:8 "A man shall be commended according to his wisdom: but he that is of a perverse heart shall be despised."
Proverbs 27:2 "Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips."

Another form of pride is self praise. It is choosing to blow your trumpet by yourself and giving yourself credit. Hence, it makes others less willing to give you credit. Self praise is outright foolishness. It is wisdom for others to praise you and give you the credit you truly deserve just as Proverbs 31:10-31 recorded the words of a husband praising his wife for her virtues.

The local church is a normal place to give worthy credit to deserving people and not just giving personal credit to ourselves. The truth is that when you have a personal revelation of the privilege you have in Christ as a believer, you will no longer worry about getting attention from others, rather, you will devote yourself to building up those around you (Romans 12:10).

The praise of God in Christ remains the only genuine and incorruptible praise. As much as you are sure to secure the love and delight of God through Jesus Christ, you will not need to be hungry for human praise. You will not feel bad when it is not there and you will not be proud when it comes. More importantly, you will not be stingy with it for others as it takes humility to praise others.

QUESTION: Are you generous with praising and affirming others?

MEDITATION: The praise and the delight of God that you received through Jesus Christ should be enough for you. Stop craving for the praise of men and start becoming truly generous with praise for worthy and deserving people.

CONCLUSION: Self praise is a reflection of foolishness.

DAILY BIBLE READING: Numbers 21-22; Proverbs 22

PRAYERS: Heavenly Father, please, keep my heart humble. Let me find my worth in Your love, not in self-praise or approval from others. Open my eyes to see who I can encourage everyday, and make me quick to speak good over them in Jesus name. Amen.

Topic: THE SEVEN PICTURES OF FOLLY: PRIDE - 12

Proverbs 20:3 (KJV) "It is an honor for a man to cease from strife: but every fool will be meddling."
Proverbs 29:23 (NLT) "Pride ends in humiliation, while humility brings honor."

There are four critical truths in the combined scriptures which serve as our text today.
These truths are:
📌 It is honorable to avoid strife.
📌 Fools are easily prone to quarrel.
📌 Pride destroys human dignity and
📌 The gain of humility or lowliness of spirit is honor.

Strife can always be avoided when the virtue of forgiveness is cultivated. Forgiveness is not only socially and emotionally healthy, it is a form of self abnegation or self denial.

However, the virtue of forgiveness is not popular in this confidently aggressive culture where people are so sensitive to being treated with honor without which they protest loudly expressing anger as a sign of self respect.

This generation does not produce spiritually matured people who practice forgiveness as a lifestyle choice. Rather, it throws up people who are quick to quarrel and who assert their honor. This is why strife keeps increasing, revenge is fashionable and grace is despised.

It is important to know that when you refuse to insist on your personal dignity, you have reached the height of dignity. However, it is weakness for you to be quick to defend yourself.

QUESTION: When last did you feel you needed to defend yourself or take revenge?

MEDITATION: In 2026 and beyond, destroy every tendency to defend yourself. Pursue the virtue of forgiveness, refuse to insist on personal dignity, shun the temptation of pride and embrace a lowly spirit.

CONCLUSION: Forgiveness is self denial!

DAILY BIBLE READING: Numbers 16-17; Proverbs 20

PRAYERS: Oh Lord, clothe me with humility. Teach me to forgive quickly, lay down pride, and refuse strife. Let honor flow from a lowly heart in me today and always in Jesus name. Amen.

Topic: THE SEVEN PICTURES OF FOLLY: PRIDE - 11

Proverbs 30:1-3 "The message of Agur son of Jakeh. An oracle. I am weary, O God; I am weary and worn out, O God. I am too ignorant to be human, and I lack common sense. I have not mastered human wisdom, nor do I know the Holy One."

It is obvious from today’s text that there is an endless difference between the knowledge of God and that of human beings. Hence, no one can access the revelation of God without first admitting the limitation of his personal knowledge of God and acknowledging the full extent of his ignorance.

It is a mark of spiritual awakening to accept the fact of your personal ignorance of God. To confidently boast of your knowledge of God is the proof that you don’t know Him. To humbly confess your ignorance of God is the proof that you have begun to know Him.

Most times, the proof that God is actually drawing you closer to Himself is when you have a penetrating, an incisive or sharp sense of His absence.

God is closer to those who are hungry for His presence, those who eagerly listen to His word with the desire for Him and those who admit that they are in need of His grace.

QUESTION: Do you earnestly desire to know God?

MEDITATION: In 2026 and beyond, learn the absolutely essential spiritual skill of repentant self examination and shun selfish and arrogant focus on yourself.

CONCLUSION: Longing for God is a virtue of humility.

DAILY BIBLE READING: Numbers 14-15; Proverbs 19

PRAYERS: Oh Lord, I admit my ignorance and lay down my pride. Draw me closer, grow my hunger for You, and teach me to know You in humility in Jesus name. Amen.

Proverbs 25:6-7 (NLT) "Don't demand an audience with the king or push for a place among the great. It is better to wait for an invitation than to be sent to the end of the line, publicly disgraced! Just because you see something."

There are many practical manifestations of humility in daily life and interactions. One critical example of such manifestations is through the virtue of modesty or lack of it. A truly humble person is modest in his speech, attitudes, conduct and general comportment.

However, an immodest person is not a reflection of humility. An immodest person has an exaggerated opinion of his personal importance. For example:
📌 In conversations, he is given to rude and domineering interruptions with the belief that his thoughts and ideas are superior.
📌 In his workplace, he is notorious for taking credit for the efforts of others without ever associating with the blame.
📌 On social media, he is given to self promotion and patronage with the goal of gaining prominence through falsehoods and manipulation.

Although there is nothing wrong with receiving honor if it is achieved through honorable means. In Luke 14:7-11, Jesus Christ amplified the counsel of our text today and presented it as an attitude and a life principle.

In actual fact, true modesty is not thinking less of yourself, rather, it is thinking of yourself less. Let the passion for service consume you beyond the pursuit of popularity and selfish aggrandizement.

QUESTION: How can you overcome the temptation for self promotion?

MEDITATION: In 2026 and beyond, cultivate the discipline of humility and the virtue of modesty regardless of how challenging in a world of ego and self promotion.

CONCLUSION: Modesty is a virtue of humility.

DAILY BIBLE READING: Numbers 11-13; Proverbs 18

PRAYERS: Lord Jesus, teach me to walk in humility today and always. Help me to think of others more than myself, serve without seeking praise, and find my honor in You, not in self-promotion in Jesus name. Amen.

Proverbs 15:33 (NLT) "Fear of the LORD teaches a person to be wise; humility precedes honor."

The humble man is honored not because he is seeking for it but because just as pride comes before destruction, humility comes before honor. This is the centerpiece of the message of the scripture above. The actions and judicial decisions of God both in the Old and New Testaments corroborates this truth.

For example, in God’s eternal plan of redemption, He chose to work through Sarah rather than Hagar, through Leah rather than Rachel, through Jacob rather than Esau, through David rather than his older, more charismatic brothers. The truth is that, God always work through the person nobody desires or the person forgotten by everybody in every generation so that He alone will take the glory.

It is this same principle that played out when God came into the world as a poor little baby born in a smelly, rodent infested manger and not in the royalty of the palace.

Furthermore, God, in the person of Jesus Christ did not seize power but relinquished it and through His sacrificial death brought salvation to the world.

The ignominy of the cross of Jesus Christ birthed glory and honor for us. Hence, the simplicity of repentance and faith in Jesus Christ honorably admitted us into Him, being adopted and accepted in the beloved.

Ultimately, the principle of power is to be strong enough to become weak. Humility is the only deliverance from foolishness and the only ticket to honor.

QUESTION: How has this universal principle played out in your life?

MEDITATION: Henceforth, maintain a clear vision that is not swayed by physical credentials and appearance. It is a spiritual discipline you must cultivate in 2026 and beyond.

CONCLUSION: The paradox of the Bible.

PRAYERS: Father, teach my heart to walk in humility. Guard me from pride and help me find strength in becoming weak for your glory in Jesus name. Amen

Proverbs 16:5, 18 - "The LORD despises pride; be assured that the proud will be punished."
"Pride goes before destruction, and haughtiness before a fall."

Our text today emphasized with certainty that Pride goes before destruction. The implication of this is that pride is a critical signal of an imminent and sure destruction.

This is because, pride:
i.️ Makes it impossible to receive counsel or criticism.
ii️. Makes it impossible to learn from personal mistakes.
i️ii. Makes it impossible to admit personal weaknesses.
iv. Blamed everything on other people.
v. Maintains the public image of competence.
vi.️ Maintains a sense of superiority over others.
vii.️ Distort man’s view of reality.
viii.️ Provokes a sense of inferiority or sometimes superiority.
ix. Provokes the spirit of fear and carelessness.
x. Is the foundation of so many other things wrong with man.
xi. Provokes the making of horrible decisions.

A proud man is completely blind to what all other people can see. He goes into depression and sometimes su***de when others are publicly adjudged to be better than him. A proud man eats up himself.

QUESTION: What symptoms of pride have you noticed in your life or in the lives of those closest to you?

MEDITATION: In 2026 and beyond, do whatever it takes with the help of the Holy Spirit to destroy the power of pride in your life.

CONCLUSION: Pride is utterly blind!

PRAYERS: Lord, humble my heart today. Take away every trace of pride that blinds me to truth, makes me reject correction, and exalts me above others. Fill me with Your Spirit so that I will walk in humility, receive counsel, and see myself rightly in You. Amen.

Proverbs 30:12-13 "They feel pure, but they are filthy and unwashed. They are proud beyond description and disdainful."

Our text today describes the proud as one with haughty eyes. The proud does not have the capacity to understand and engage people as equals, looking at them face to face. They consider others as mere instruments to be used for the attainment of their personal and selfish goals.

As a matter of fact, they consider others as a means to an end and they use them to boost their carnal self image and godless reputation. It is absolutely impossible for a proud man to be sympathetic.

Pride is a major character flaw and a terrible moral affliction that:
📌 Keeps us from noticing and recognizing people.
📌 Keeps us from putting ourselves in the shoes of others.
📌 Destroys our sensitivities to the pain, hurt and sorrow of others.
📌 Keeps us focused on selfish needs and myopic agenda.
📌 Makes us believe we are smarter than those currently suffering.
📌 Makes us to be too sorry for ourselves and about personal problems rather than caring for others.

A proud man does not have the spirit of Jesus Christ who was full of sympathy for the deaf-mute (Mark 7:34), who wept at the tomb of Lazarus (John 11:35) and who is our High Priest who easily relates with our infirmities (Hebrews 4:14-16).

QUESTION: How many people can safely relate with you? Are you sensitive to the needs, pain, hurt and suffering of others?

MEDITATION: In 2026 and beyond, develop the capacity to be patient with people who have problems and strictly cultivate the sympathetic heart of Jesus Christ.

CONCLUSION: Pride undermines sympathy for others.

DAILY BIBLE READING: Leviticus 26-27; Proverbs 12

PRAYERS: Lord Jesus, break the pride in my heart today. Give me eyes to see people as You see them, and a heart that feels what they feel. Make me patient, gentle, and quick to show sympathy, not judgment in Jesus' name, Amen.

Proverbs 15:25 "The LORD will destroy the house of the proud: but he will establish the border of the widow."

It is important to know that pride is not only disdainful in its interactions with others (that is, pride does not only look down on others), but also acting independent of God (that is, it also refuses to look up to God).

Pride always contests for God’s proper roles in our lives. Pride makes a man to be contented with taking up the titles and attributes meant for God alone.

Pride makes a man to:
⚫ Desire to be his own Saviour and lord
⚫ Desire to run his own life in his own way
⚫ Desire to earn his own self worth
⚫ Desire to decide what is right and wrong for himself
⚫ Refuse to let God be God
⚫ Grab God’s status for himself
⚫ Refuse to be a creature in God’s garden
⚫ Desire to be the creator, independent and self reliant

Pride is a terrible deception, it is the greatest imaginary life lived in a fantasy world. A proud man is foolish because he is overconfident and out of touch with reality. Pride provokes social injustice. However, a proud man is in direct confrontation with God when he attempts to oppress the poor and the helpless.

QUESTION: In what ways have you prevented God from being God in your life?

MEDITATION: In 2026 and beyond, let God be God in your life. Reject every temptation for independence and self reliance.

CONCLUSION: Pride is seeking to replace God.

PRAYERS: Father, I surrender control to You. Forgive me for the places I have tried to replace You. Help me to trust You as God and live as Your dependent child as from today in Jesus' name, Amen.

Proverbs 11:12 (NLT) "It is foolish to belittle a neighbor; a person with good sense remains silent."

The book of Proverbs never encouraged the negative acts of looking down on others or belittling others and treating them as unimportant. As a matter of fact, pride is the impulse connected to despising and looking down on people.

While it is normal to be proud of your work and possessions, however, negative pride is not just about having something, it is about having it more than the next person.

Therefore, for proud people, it is not about being successful, brilliant and handsome, it is about being richer, more brilliant and more handsome or beautiful than others. Hence, the essence of pride is the comparison and the satisfaction of being above others and the belittling of others in their hearts.

Jesus never approved of speaking to belittle or disrespect others (Matthew 5:22). Although Jesus Christ is God on the earth, His practical conduct and behavior were simple, kind and lowly. He gladly associated with the lower class of people looking down on no one.

QUESTION: Is there anyone in your life that you really despise?

MEDITATION: In 2026 and beyond, choose to walk in the footsteps of Jesus Christ, who mingled with the tax collectors, the Romans, prostitutes and sinners without looking down on anyone.

CONCLUSION: Pride is looking down on others.

DAILY BIBLE READING: Leviticus 22-23; Proverbs 10

PRAYERS: Lord Jesus, keep my heart humble. Help me to see others as You see them, and remove every trace of pride that makes me belittle or compare. Teach me to walk lowly and love freely, like You did in Jesus' name, Amen.
