TOPIC: PETER REFINING PROCESS

MEMORISE

But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren (Luke 22:32).

READ:

Luke 22:31-34; 54-62

Luke 22: 31-34

[31]. And the Lord said, “Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat.

[32]. But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren.”

[33]. But he said to Him, “Lord, I am ready to go with You, both to prison and to death.”

[34]. Then He said, “I tell you, Peter, the rooster shall not crow this day before you will deny three times that you know Me.”

Luke 22: 54-62

[54]. Having arrested Him, they led Him and brought Him into the high priest’s house. But Peter followed at a distance.

[55]. Now when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the courtyard and sat down together, Peter sat among them.

[56]. And a certain servant girl, seeing him as he sat by the fire, looked intently at him and said, “This man was also with Him.”

[57]. But he denied Him, saying, “Woman, I do not know Him.”

[58]. And after a little while another saw him and said, “You also are of them.” But Peter said, “Man, I am not!”

[59]. Then after about an hour had passed, another confidently affirmed, saying, “Surely this fellow also was with Him, for he is a Galilean.”

[60]. But Peter said, “Man, I do not know what you are saying!” Immediately, while he was still speaking, the rooster crowed.

[61]. And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had said to him, “Before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.”

[62]. So Peter went out and wept bitterly.

EXPOSITION

Peter's life is a testament to both faith and failure. After boldly declaring his loyalty, he denied Jesus three times, as Jesus had foretold (Matt. 26:34). This failure was deeply painful for Peter, but it led to a process of repentance and restoration, unlike Judas who only had a moment of remorse but failed woefully to repent. After Jesus' resurrection, He appeared to Peter, asking him three times, _Do you love me?_ (Jn. 21:15-17). This act of restoration allowed Peter to reaffirm his commitment and be healed from his shame.

Through this refining process, Peter became a powerful leader in the early Church. On the day of Pentecost, he preached boldly and three thousand people surrendered to the lordship of Jesus and were saved (Acts 2:41). Peter's story teaches us that God can use even our failures to shape and refine us for His purpose. It is a process that makes us God's own products. Don't jump the process. God's grace enables us to rise above our mistakes and become instruments for His glory. Like Peter, we can experience God's restoration and transformation, turning our weaknesses into strengths for His Kingdom (2 Cor. 12:9).

PRAYER POINTS

1. Lord, help me to truly turn back to You if/when I mess up. Heal me from shame, just like You did for Peter.

2. Father, as You shaped Peter for Your glory, shape me too. Give me courage to live out Your plan.

3. God, let Your grace turn my weaknesses into strengths and use me for Your work.

8 7 8 7 & Ref

1. When the pow'r of God descended

On the day of Pentecost,

All the days of waiting ended,

They received the Holy Ghost.

O Lord, send the pow'r just now,

O Lord, send the pow'r just now,

O Lord, send the pow'r just now,

And baptize, every one.

2. Tongues of flame came down upon them,

And they preached the word in pow'r,

List'ning multitudes awaken'd

Turned to God that very hour.

3. We are waiting Holy Spirit

We are all of one accord,

Lord fulfil just now the promise

That is given in Thy Word

4. Fill and thrill us with thy presence,

Grant the blessing that we need

Flood our souls with wondrous glory,

While the pray'r of faith we plead.

Amen.

TOPIC:
CROSS OVER TO POSSESS

MEMORISE

But the land which you cross over to possess is a land of Hills and valleys, from the beginning of the year to the very end of the year (Deuteronomy 11:11,12).

READ:
Deuteronomy. 11:8-12

[8]. “Therefore you shall keep every commandment which I command you today, that you may be strong, and go in and possess the land which you cross over to possess,

[9]. and that you may prolong your days in the land which the Lord swore to give your fathers, to them and their descendants, ‘a land flowing with milk and honey.’

[10]. For the land which you go to possess is not like the land of Egypt from which you have come, where you sowed your seed and watered it by foot, as a vegetable garden;

[11]. but the land which you cross over to possess is a land of hills and valleys, which drinks water from the rain of heaven,

[12]. a land for which the Lord your God cares; the eyes of the Lord your God are always on it, from the beginning of the year to the very end of the year.

EXPOSITION

God cares about your cross over to another year tonight. Read Deuteronomy 11:11,12. God cares about the beginning and the end of every year! You are not alive to see the end of this year by chance, nor did you earn it by merit. All praise goes to God while you prepare yourself for the blessings in the new year ahead.

Deuteronomy presents how Moses prepared Israel for the next move of God on their way to the Promised Land. They needed to learn how to fight to drive away the enemy without failing, look out for new opportunities and run with them. To take possession of what the new year has to offer with a new level of success is not a child's play. To cross over and possess the land flowing with milk and honey requires labour, not leisure, or laziness. We too shouldn't be lazy. We must give much careful attention to love and serve God wholeheartedly (vv. 13,16,18-25) and be ready to do the required, if indeed we are set to enjoy the best the new year ahead has for us.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Lord, I thank You for Your guidance and care, year after year. Help me to use the opportunities You provide.

2. Lord, I surrender myself to You; lead me to love and serve You wholeheartedly in the year ahead.

3. Lord, grant me strength and determination to work hard and embrace the blessings of the upcoming year.

C M

1. O God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Our shelter from the stormy blast,
And our eternal home.

2. Under the shadow of Thy throne,
Still may we dwell secure;
Sufficient is Thine arm alone,
And our defence is sure

3. Before the hills in order stood,
Or earth received her frame,
From everlasting Thou art God,
To endless years the same

4. A thousand ages in Thy sight
Are like an evening gone,
Short as the watch that ends the night
Before the rising sun.

5. Time, like an ever-rolling stream,
Bears all its sons away:
They fly forgotten, as a dream
Dies at the opening day.

6. O God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Be Thou our guard while life shall last,
And our perpetual home.

Amen

TOPIC:
LIVING FOR OTHERS TOO (I)

MEMORISE

For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many (Mark 10:45).

READ:
Mark 10:35-45

[35]. Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to Him, saying, “Teacher, we want You to do for us whatever we ask.”

[36]. And He said to them, “What do you want Me to do for you?”

[37]. They said to Him, “Grant us that we may sit, one on Your right hand and the other on Your left, in Your glory.”

[38]. But Jesus said to them, “You do not know what you ask. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?”

[39]. They said to Him, “We are able.” So Jesus said to them, “You will indeed drink the cup that I drink, and with the baptism I am baptized with you will be baptized;

[40]. but to sit on My right hand and on My left is not Mine to give, but it is for those for whom it is prepared.”

[41]. And when the ten heard it, they began to be greatly displeased with James and John.

[42]. But Jesus called them to Himself and said to them, “You know that those who are considered rulers over the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them.

[43]. Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you shall be your servant.

[44]. And whoever of you desires to be first shall be slave of all.

[45]. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”

EXPOSITION

Living for others is as vital and essential as the sun shining its light daily (Matt. 5:45), the river continually providing water abundantly, and the moon illuminating the night (Psa. 65:9; 136:9). Just as nothing hinders flowers from releasing their scents into the air and trees consistently yielding fruits for humans and animals, including birds, so too does the wind blow, offering fresh air to cool the atmosphere (Jn. 3:8). Have you ever seen dew stop falling on the earth (Gen. 27-28), clouds refrain from releasing rain (Job 37:6), or the sea cease to produce fish (Matt. 4:19)?

Life revolves around service and living for the benefit of others. Our Lord Jesus Christ set the perfect example of service by sacrificing His heavenly glory to serve humanity. Our Memory Scripture illustrates His selfless life on earth. He came not to be served but to serve, giving His life as a ransom for many. Are we as sacrificial and selfless in our actions? Are we fulfilling our God-given purpose? Living for others, not just ourselves, is one of the best ways to honour God and fulfil our destinies (Mk 10:45).

PRAYER POINTS

1. Jesus, please help me to be sacrificial and selfless in my interactions with people everyday.

2. May I humbly serve others as I fulfil my God-given purpose, in Jesus'name.

3. Lord, guide believers to avoid selfishness and self-centredness, which hinder spreading the gospel.

SUGGESTED HYMN FOR TODAY:
CAC GHB: 692

8 7 8 7 8 7

1. Brethren let us walk together
In love and the peace of God
Ought we to begin to question
Whether we should cease all strife?
In communion, sweet communion
Will our love and joy increase.

2. As we make our journey homeward
Let us help ourselves along
Our foes encircle us around
Snares are laid out on our way
Our duty is, our duty is
To bear each other's burden.

3. When we think of what God has done
In forgiving o'er and o'er
Brethren, ought we not to learn that
Striving should be set aside
Let us avoid, let us avoid
All the anger and the strife.

4. Let us seek our brother's honour
More than we would seek our own
Let us leave all spite and hatred
And our hearts be filled with love
'Twill be sweeter, 'twill be sweeter
If we're in oneness on earth.

Amen.
