✨ My Mouth — A Channel of Change
By Joshua Augustine Apeh
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”
— Proverbs 18:21 (NKJV)
Our mouths were never meant to be idle. Every word we speak carries weight — to heal or to harm, to uplift or to destroy, to create or to condemn. God, in His infinite wisdom, entrusted us with this divine tool not just to communicate, but to co-create with Him.
🔹 The Power Within
Words formed the world.
Then God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light.” — Genesis 1:3
God spoke creation into existence. And as beings made in His image (Genesis 1:27), our words carry creative power too. Whether we speak life over our children, peace into chaos, or faith over fear, our mouths serve as channels of divine change.
🔹 When Our Words Heal
A kind word at the right time can shift someone’s entire day — or destiny.
“The tongue of the wise promotes health.” — Proverbs 12:18
In a world filled with criticism, gossip, and lies, choosing to speak healing and truth is radical. Our mouths can become instruments of restoration — in homes, classrooms, churches, and on the streets. One word of encouragement can birth hope in a hopeless soul.
🔹 Speaking What God Says
When we align our words with God’s Word, change becomes inevitable. Speak His promises, declare His truths, and proclaim His purposes.
“Let the redeemed of the Lord say so…” — Psalm 107:2
Silence is not always golden. Sometimes, it’s agreement with defeat. We are called to declare — to speak over dry bones like Ezekiel (Ezekiel 37), to call those things that be not as though they were (Romans 4:17).
🔹 Guarding the Gate
If our mouths can create change, then we must also be careful what we say — and why.
“Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; Keep watch over the door of my lips.” — Psalm 141:3
This is not just about avoiding “bad” language, but being intentional about releasing life-giving words. Gossip, complaining, negativity — all of these block the flow of change. But praise, truth, and faith open the heavens.
🔹 A Challenge for Today
What if you viewed your mouth as a channel God wants to use daily? What if, instead of reacting in anger, you responded with grace? What if your words consistently built others, blessed your family, and boldly declared God’s plans?
Let your mouth be:
A voice of encouragement, not discouragement.
A speaker of truth, not rumors.
A herald of hope, not fear.
A vessel for change, not chaos.
🙏 Prayer:
Lord, make my mouth a channel of Your power. Let every word I speak bring light, life, and transformation. Teach me to align my tongue with Your truth, and to use my voice for Your glory. Amen.
