*AWAKE AND SING FOR JOY*

*BH 26: Awake, My Soul, in Joyful Lays*

1. Awake, my soul, in joyful lays

And sing thy great Redeemer’s praise;

He justly claims a song from me.

His loving kindness is so free.

Loving kindness, loving kindness,

His loving kindness is so free

2. He saw me ruined in the fall,

Yet loved me not withstanding all,

And saved me from my lost estate,

His loving kindness is so great,

Loving kindness, Loving kindness,

His loving kindness is so great.

3. Through mighty, hosts of cruel foes,

Where earth and hell my way oppose,

He safely leads my soul along,

His loving kindness is so strong,

Loving kindness, Loving kindness,

His loving kindness is so strong

4. Often I feel my sinful heart,

Prone from my Jesus to depart;

And though I oft have Him forgot,

His loving kindness changes not,

Loving kindness, Loving kindness,

His loving kindness changes not

*Memory verse:* But your dead will live, Lord; their bodies will rise – let those who dwell in the dust wake up and shout for joy – your dew is like the dew of the morning; the earth will give birth to her dead. Isaiah 26:19, NIV

*Text: Isaiah 26:12-19*

[12] Lord, you establish peace for us; all that we have accomplished you have done for us.

[13] Lord our God, other lords besides you have ruled over us, but your name alone do we honor.

[14] They are now dead, they live no more; their spirits do not rise. You punished them and brought them to ruin; you wiped out all memory of them.

[15] You have enlarged the nation, Lord; you have enlarged the nation. You have gained glory for yourself; you have extended all the borders of the land.

[16] Lord, they came to you in their distress; when you disciplined them, they could barely whisper a prayer.

[17] As a pregnant woman about to give birth writhes and cries out in her pain, so were we in your presence, Lord.

[18] We were with child, we writhed in labor, but we gave birth to wind. We have not brought salvation to the earth, and the people of the world have not come to life.

[19] But your dead will live, Lord; their bodies will rise— let those who dwell in the dust wake up and shout for joy— your dew is like the dew of the morning; the earth will give birth to her dead.

________

D.L. Moody once said, “Joy flows right on through trouble; joy flows on through the dark; joy flows in the night as well as in the day; joy flows all through persecution and opposition.

It is an unceasing fountain bubbling up in the heart; a secret spring the world can’t see and doesn’t know anything about.

The Lord gives His people perpetual joy when they walk in obedience to Him.”

In today's passage, the Israelites saw the futility of following other gods when God disciplined them; so, they came to honour God's name. They had laboured in vain in the place of prayer.

They did not have anything to show for their cries in God's presence, and could not fulfil God's purpose to proclaim salvation to others.

The other gods they have turned to for help have disappointed them.

However, God's people will rise to eternal life amidst shouts of joy to share in the festivities of God's final triumph.

The wicked will rise to eternal punishment.

We learn from bitter experiences how wrong it is to ignore God's will and do things our way.

If this leads to pain, even the pain can be a way to make us focus on the right way. There is hope for God's people, no matter the situation.

God will give them peace in the middle of the storm and fulfil His promise of restoration.

What challenges are you facing that prevent you from seeking God's help?

Are you suffering a state of rejection, dejection, oppression, sickness, or bo***ge?

Receive divine strength, wake up and shout for joy! Jesus Christ has prevailed for your sake.

*Wisdom:* God does not abandon His own.

*Food for Thought:* What challenges are you facing that have led you to seek help outside of God?

*Follow-up Action:* Reflect on how God helped you in the past, and let His faithfulness strengthen your faith.

*Prayer:* Lord, no matter what comes my way, help me to keep my gaze fixed on You.

*Prayer:* Lord Jesus Christ, be formed in me, (Galatians 4:19) that I may please you in all I do.

________

Maria woke up one morning tired but chose to sing. Her song sparked hope and a brighter day for her. Sometimes joy starts with just one morning song.

Prophet Isaiah understood the importance of complete dependence on God, recognizing Him as the central and most essential part of our lives.

He points out that the gods of other nations are useless and not even worthy of remembrance, while God alone is the source of true peace.

Isaiah further emphasizes that God is dependable and can be called upon in times of distress.

He concludes by affirming that God has the power to bring life to any dead situation, causing those who are downcast to awaken and sing for joy.

Believers are called to trust in God first, and not run to God for help after all other options have failed.

In this chaotic and confusing world, only God can provide perfect peace. When this peace fills our hearts, our natural response will be to rejoice.

No matter what you are going through, choose to sing a joyful song to God today and you will experience divine turn around in all areas.

Also, encourage someone who is passing through challenges today.

*Insight:* True peace can only be found in God.

*Prayer:* O Lord, I receive grace to rest in You so that I will sing for joy.

*Text:I Know That My Redeemer Lives*

*BH 127: I Know That My Redeemer Liveth*

1. I know that My Redeemer liveth,

And on the earth again shall stand;

I know eternal life he giveth,

That grace power are in His hand

I know, I know that Jesus liveth.

And on the earth again shall stand;

I know, I know that life He giveth,

That grace and power are in His hand

2. I know His promise never faileth

The word He speaks, it cannot die

Tho’ cruel death my flesh assaileth,

Yet I shall see Him by and by.

3. I know my mansion He prepareth;

That where He is there I may be;

o wondrous th’t for me He careth

And He at last will come for me.

*Memory verse:* I know that my redeemer lives and that, in the end, he will stand on the earth. — Job 19:25, NIV.

*Text: Job 19:23-27*

[23] “Oh, that my words were recorded, that they were written on a scroll,

[24] that they were inscribed with an iron tool on lead, or engraved in rock forever!

[25] I know that my redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand on the earth.

[26] And after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God;

[27] I myself will see him with my own eyes—I, and not another. How my heart yearns within me!

________

Annie Johnson Flint in her poem "For Thou Art with Me" writes “I know not when I go, nor where, from this familiar scene; but He [Christ] is here and He is there, and all the way between;

And when I pass from all I know, to that dim vast unknown, though late I stay, or soon I go, I shall not go alone.” It is easy for humans to lose sight of God’s presence amidst unimaginable suffering.

Yet, faith and perseverance can bring victory.

In the face of Job’s overwhelming suffering, he expressed an unwavering belief in the living Redeemer.

His statement, “I know that my Redeemer lives,” acknowledges God, not as a distant figure, but as One present and active in Job’s life.

From his valley of despair, Job went to the mountain top of faith, expressing his confidence that redemption would surely come for him.

Job’s declaration was not only for him to overcome his present predicament but also to reign with God eternally.

Job’s experience serves as a powerful reminder to believers that our faith in God is not determined by our circumstances but rests on the unchanging character of our Redeemer.

Whatever unpleasant circumstances we face, they should not hinder us from trusting in the active presence of the Redeemer in our lives. Demonstrating unwavering faith in our predicament will prepare us to reign with Him in heaven.

Learn from the life of Job. Keep hope alive! Your Redeemer lives, and at last, He will vindicate you.

*Wisdom:* Jesus Christ is our Redeemer who never fails.

*Food for Thought:* What situation in your life is challenging the supremacy of God?

*Follow-up Action:* Talk to God about it and believe in His supreme power.

*Prayer:* Lord Jesus, help me to anchor my faith in You, my Saviour, and my Redeemer.

*Prayer:* LORD, do not be a terror to me for You are my hope in the day of doom. — Jeremiah 17:17

*BH 482: When the Roll Is Called Up Yonder*

1. When the trumpet of the Lord shall sound,

and time ‘shall be no more,

And the morning breaks, eternal, bright, and fair;

When the saved of earth shall gather

over on the other sh**e,

And the roll is called up yonder, I’ll be there.

When the roll…. Is called up yon…der,

When the roll…… is called up yon…der,

When the roll …… is called up yon…… der

When the roll is called up yonder, I’ll be there.

2. On that bright cloudless morning

When the dead in Christ shall rise,

And the glory of His resurrection share;

When His chosen ones shall gather to their home beyond the skies,

And the roll is called up yonder. I’ll be there.

3. Let us labor for the Master from

the dawn till setting sun,

Let us talk of all His wondrous love and care;

Then when all of life is over,

and our work on earth is done,

And the roll is called up yonder, I’ll be there.

*Memory verse:* Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope.

— 1 Thessalonians 4:13, NIV

*Text: 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18*

[13] Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope.

[14] For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.

[15] According to the Lord’s word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep.

[16] For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.

[17] After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.

[18] Therefore encourage one another with these words.

______

One of the inevitable experiences of every man is death. When it occurs, sorrow, grief, fear, discouragement and hopelessness set in.

Some people see death as just the end of life, while some are bothered by the question of what comes next after death.

The Thessalonian church was confronted with the challenge of death and life after death. This and many other issues became the reason for Apostle Paul’s letter to the church.

He wrote to inform them that the death of a believer is not a loss and should not bring such hopeless grieving as other people do.

The death of a believer is a sleep. This is because just as Christ died and rose again, so will be the experience of those who died in Him.

Paul further encouraged them that those who are alive until the second coming of the Lord shall be caught up together with those who had slept in the Lord.

By implication, both those who died naturally in Christ and those who are alive will be raptured together and will live eternally with Christ in His kingdom.

Physical death is not the end of human life, especially for Christians. It is a transition to eternal life with Jesus Christ.

James H. Aughey said, "Death to the Christian is the funeral of all his sorrows and evils, and the resurrection of all his joys." Do not be hopeless when a believer dies.

At the same time, you must live as a person who is prepared for Jesus’ second coming and eternal life.

*Wisdom:* Do not grieve like the hopeless people.

*Food for Thought:* If a believer dies, how do you perceive it?

*Follow-up Action:* Encourage someone who has just lost a loved one.

*Prayer:* Lord Jesus, help me to be an encourager to those in grief.

*Prayer:* LORD, stretch forth Your hand for me and not against me; to heal me, restore me, and not to destroy me in Jesus' name. Jeremiah 15:7.

________

Having personally experienced the loss of a dear one, it is clear that during times of grief, words of comfort and assurance become crucial.

The sense of despair can feel overwhelming, and without hope, the pain of separation becomes even more unbearable as it leaves the heart searching for meaning in silence left behind, yearning for a sense of peace that only the promise of comfort and healing can provide.

Apostle Paul understood this need for comfort and encouragement. He emphasized that death is not the end for those who are in Christ.

Paul's message was that those who have died in the Lord will be raised again, and we will be reunited at Christ's return.

This promise of resurrection and eternal life brings a hope that transcends earthly sorrow.

It is vital for believers to hold on to this hope and share it with others, offering comfort through the assurance that we will see our loved ones again in the presence of the Lord.

In a world filled with pain and uncertainty, we are called to remind one another of the glorious hope we have in Christ, both for the living and for the departed.

May we find strength and encouragement in the promise of resurrection and the eternal life that awaits us.

*Insight:* Remaining in Christ till the end guarantees the experience of sweet reunion.

*Prayer:* Lord, help me to remain faithful to the end in Jesus' name.
