A Message for the International Youth Day
By the National Youth Animator, CSN

Dear young people,
Happy International Youth Day

These times are tough, but you are tougher.
Don’t let hardship steal your hope or push you to cut corners.

Choose truth, choose hard work, choose to build.
Your skills, voice, and ideas are the answer Nigeria is waiting for.

Keep going. The mountain ahead is yours to climb.
The future is in your hands.

- Fr Boniface Idoko

NATIONAL YOUTH ANIMATOR JOINS MINNA DIOCESE FOR DIOCESAN YOUTH WEEK

The National Youth Animator, Rev. Fr. Boniface Idoko, joined the Catholic Diocese of Minna and the Catholic Youth Organisation of Nigeria (CYON) for their Diocesan Youth Week, where he delivered a thought-provoking paper titled: “Magnifica Humanitas: Pope Leo XIV’s Vision of Human Dignity in the Age of Artificial Intelligence and Its Implications for Catholic Youth Ministry in Nigeria.”

Drawing from the Church’s rich tradition of Sacred Scripture, Christian anthropology, and Catholic Social Teaching, the presentation explored the urgent need to place human dignity at the heart of technological advancement.

As Artificial Intelligence continues to reshape education, employment, communication, politics, and human relationships, the Church is called not to respond with fear or naïve optimism, but with wisdom, discernment and hope. Young Catholics must be equipped to navigate the digital age with technological competence, moral responsibility, critical thinking, spiritual maturity and a missionary spirit.

For CYON and the wider Catholic youth ministry in Nigeria, this is a defining opportunity to form young leaders who will ensure that technology remains a servant of humanity, rather than its master.

Ultimately, the message is clear: the future of humanity will not be determined merely by the sophistication of machines, but by the holiness, wisdom and dignity of persons.

As technology evolves, may Christ—the perfect image of God—remain our measure of authentic humanity, guiding us towards a future where faith, science, technology and human dignity advance together for the glory of God and the good of all.

THE NATIONAL YOUTH ANIMATOR, CSN, VISITS IDP CAMP IN BENUE WITH NFCS ABUJA PROVINCE
- Calls for sustained care, dignity, and hope for displaced children.

The National Youth Animator of the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria, Rev. Fr. Boniface Idoko, on the 1st of August, led members of the Nigeria Federation of Catholic Students, NFCS Abuja Province, to one of the Internally Displaced Persons camps in Benue State.

The visit was aimed at identifying with displaced families, especially children, and bringing them the message of hope, solidarity, and the love of Christ.

Speaking about the visit, Fr. Idoko described the experience as deeply moving.
“It was a profound experience, especially being with the children. Despite the hardship, their smiles, their songs, and their eagerness to learn reminded us that hope cannot be displaced. To be with them is to be reminded of the face of Christ in the most vulnerable,” he said.

Members of NFCS Abuja Province engaged the children in prayers, games, catechesis, and distributed relief materials. The students also listened to the stories of families affected by the crisis, offering encouragement and assurance of continued support.

Fr. Idoko commended the camp officials and volunteers for their service, and thanked NFCS Abuja Province for living out the Church’s call to charity and mission. He urged Catholic youth across the country to see service to IDPs not as a one-time event, but as a continuing act of faith.

The visit forms part of the Catholic Church’s ongoing response to humanitarian needs in the Middle Belt, in line with the directives of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria on care for migrants, refugees, and internally displaced persons.
