Sister Sarah played defiantly to the regulation of no movement during the monthly environmental sanitation exercise in order to meet up with certain preparations for a particular event. The sanitation officers on parade arrested and arraigned her before the judge, who declared her guilty and fined her a sum of N 8,500. As she stood there thinking of how to raise the fine, unsure of what to do, a stranger stepped forward quietly, paid the exact amount, and walked away without saying a word. Sarah was stunned, freed not by merit, but by mercy.

Apostle Paul made it clear that justification from the condemnation of our sinful nature is by the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. He further highlighted that we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God as well as in our sufferings for righteousness ' sake. He stated that the death of our Lord Jesus Christ, which brought salvation, was once and for all, and it was a demonstration of God's love for sinners so that they can be reconciled with Him.

The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ paid for our sins. Today, reflect on God's goodness and renew your commitment to Him. We are justified through salvation and are saved from God's wrath. Do not allow His death for you to be in vain.

Randy Alcorn once said, "It is by serving God and others that we store up heavenly treasures. Everyone gains; no one loses." Today's text was Joshua's address at the solemn assembly of the Israelites at Shechem. He recounted God's great acts among them from the days of Terah, their forefather, and how God preserved them and set them apart. Though they worshipped other gods, God still had mercy on them. God separated Abraham, gave him a better covenant, and blessed him with many descendants and possessions. God gave the Israelites victories during battles, divine provisions, and guidance. But it was time for them to make their decision on whom they would serve. Rather than Joshua compelling them, he only made his choice and allowed them to make theirs. The people responded by reminding themselves of God's works and choosing to serve Him.

The decisions and choices we make in life matter as Christians, and we have to take responsibility for them. We must never forget all the goodness of God for us, and ensure that we are resolute in our decision to serve Him wholeheartedly. Let your reverence for God shape your choices. Never forget how far He has brought you and be forever grateful to Him.

A traveller got lost in a thick forest because he had ignored the guide's instructions. He began to wander into unfamiliar terrain. After hours of confusion, fear, and regret, he spotted a ranger's hut. Desperate and humbled, he knocked, and the ranger welcomed him, gave him a map, and walked him back to safety.

David, in his supplication to God for redemption from afflictions, troubles, and enemies, pointed out that only those who fear the Lord are free from every form of trouble and cruel hatred. According to the psalmist, God confides in and holds a covenanted friendship with those who fear Him.

Any life sold to sin needs salvation and deliverance from challenges and the power of oppression by enemies. Ultimately, the psalmist made a passionate petition to God for the redemption of Israel. He cried out not just for personal help but for all the Israelites. This shows that God's redemption is not only personal but communal. A life entangled in sin, weighed down by trials, or oppressed by the enemy needs divine intervention. David's confidence rests in God's mercy and faithfulness.

Every believer must learn to put his confidence and hope in God for direction on every matter. Our redemption from all oppression and challenges of life is hinged on God. God is our redeemer in times of trouble and storm, and we are sure that He can never fail.

The Pharisees, having realised how Jesus Christ had silenced the Sadducees, schemed up another plan to tempt Jesus with the question, "Which is the greatest commandment in the law?"

But Jesus, full of wisdom, did not merely answer their question; He revealed the heart of God's expectations. He explained the entire essence of Scripture into one command—love.

He explained that, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and mind, and, Love your neighbour as yourself" (v. 37). Jesus' response contradicts their belief and practice of eye for eye, tooth for tooth.

He did not just answer their question, but He also explained what true love means. Loving God means total devotion, loving others means reflecting God's heart to the world.

As a child of God, anchor your life on the love of God and reflect that love in every relationship—with family, friends, neighbours, and even strangers.

The decision to follow Jesus Christ must be wholehearted and unwavering.

In today's passage, several individuals expressed a desire to follow Christ, yet their hearts were distracted - some by comfort, others by family obligations or societal expectations. Jesus responded with a strong warning that discipleship is not for the half-hearted. It is like the ploughman who needed to focus on the terminal point to ensure precision of the work done without expecting any compensation or honour for his effort.

Anyone who desires to follow after Jesus must patiently focus on Him. Looking back can bring regret, lead to hesitation, or attachment to the world, which are attitudes unfit for kingdom service. Following Jesus requires letting go of distractions, enduring hardship, and rejecting the temptation to turn back. True discipleship demands sacrifice and a steady gaze on the eternal prize.

As children of God, we must understand that there will never be a perfect time to execute the mandate of God over our lives in this world. We should therefore set our gaze on Jesus Christ, the Author and Finisher of our faith. He is able to take us through any challenge and grant us victory.

A young boy once tried to fix his father's old radio. With little knowledge but a lot of confidence, he unscrewed the back, poked around the wires, and proudly declared it repaired. But when his father turned it on, there was only silence. The boy had good intentions, but without following the proper instructions, his efforts were useless.

In today's passage, the Apostle John reminded believers of the importance of obeying God's Word. Obedience is the proof of our love and knowledge of God. He said anyone who claims to know God but does not obey His commandments is a liar. He acknowledged that we are born as sinners, but we are not to remain in this state. Jesus Christ is the atoning sacrifice for all the sins of the world. He explained that people only have to confess their sinful state, and there is forgiveness available for them. This redeeming sacrifice comes with one evidence: the saved obey and keep His commands.

As a Christian, loving the Lord starts with keeping His commands. We grow as Christians when we commit to reading and obeying His Word daily. His commandments are for our own good, to keep us safe and secure in this world. Choose to willingly walk in obedience to His Word today.

Every relationship needs moments of recommitment. This is why we have wedding anniversaries, birthday celebrations, and family gatherings where we remind ourselves of how we started. This same process of recommitment also happens in our relationship with God.

Joshua asked the Israelites to renew their covenant with God at Shechem. He told them of how God deliberately took Abraham and his descendants from the land beyond the River Euphrates and brought them to Canaan. He reminded them of how God gave many descendants to Abraham according to His covenant with him. This covenant continued with God leading the Israelites out of Egypt through Moses. After the death of Moses, God used Joshua to lead them to the Promised Land, winning great battles for them and driving out the people who had been on the land. All the battles won were not by sword and bow, but God made it possible.

Our God is a covenant-keeping God; He does not fail. Whatever He says he will do, he always does. His covenant for your life will never fail; believe and claim His promises for your life. Do not be discouraged because His promises seem to have been delayed. Go to God in prayer, believing and reaffirming that He is a faithful God who keeps His promises and covenant for generations.

In times of hardship, Elizabeth's mother used to tell her, "Hold fast to God, and He will guide you through." Despite facing numerous challenges, her mother never wavered in her faith. Her steadfast trust in the Lord was a beacon of strength for her family. She showed them the importance of unwavering faith.

Joshua addressed the Israelites in his old age, urging them to remain faithful to God. He reminded them of the great things God had done for them and warned them against turning to other gods. He knew that the Israelites might face difficult times with the people who were still occupying the land God promised them, but he urged them to be courageous and keep God's commandments. Joshua's message is clear: their continued success and protection depend on their commitment to the Lord. He emphasised the need for steadfast devotion to God if the Israelites were going to possess all of the land that God had promised them.

Brethren, we will face challenges even when we are in the centre of God's will. We need to hold fast to God, no matter the situation. In times of uncertainty or temptation, we must remain dedicated to our faith. We can navigate life's challenges with confidence and assurance when we put our trust in God's promises and guidance.

Rahab had heard of the mighty feats of Israel's God, and she believed the report. She knew that Jericho would be possessed by the Israelites.

After showing kindness to the spies, she asked that they spare her life and her family when they come to possess the land. The men assured her that they would spare their lives if she did not tell anyone about the plan of the Israelites. When Rahab, a pr******te, heard of the mighty feats of the one true God, she did not think herself worthy to be spared by this God. She begged for her life and that of her family. Rahab believed in God's promises to the Israelites, even though she was not an Israelite. She acknowledged Him as God in heaven above and earth below.

No matter how horrible your past might have been, God can save you and bring you into His holy family. You only need faith in His mighty power to save, just like Rahab had in Israel's God. Exercise your faith in Christ, and you will see the salvation of God.
