2025 COVENANT RENEWAL
SUNDAY JANUARY 12, 2025
Beloved in the Lord, covenant renewal is a significant season in the lives of God's people, which happens after or before great events. It is a time of regrouping, renewing, reordering and reliving the story of God's grace, of re-centering our lives in God and His plans for our lives.
Covenant renewal involves remembering the great deeds of the LORD. We could say that covenant renewal always involves confessional reawakening. For the confession of the faith is a summary of God's great works in Christ.
"I will renew my covenant with you, and you will know that I am the Lord. I will forgive all the wrongs you have done, but you will remember them and be too ashamed to open your mouth." The Sovereign Lord has spoken (Ezekiel 16:60 - 63).
Whenever Christians pray unto God in Christ, especially when they Fast and Pray, the Covenant is renewed: for then they profess that God in Jesus Christ is the object of their Faith (at least) promise to endeavour a reformation of the sins which they confess and beg the pardon of.
It is even a better covenant because whereas the old covenant was sealed with the blood of animals, the new one is sealed with the blood of Jesus. Time and again, God calls us to renew our covenant with Him so that we can continue to enjoy His blessings. Although God is the one that renews our covenant with Him, we must bring ourselves to repentance and state our willingness for it. We have a part to play in order to renew the covenant.
Luke 8:18 lays down the universal law that the man who has will get more; and that the man who has not will lose what he has. If a man is physically fit and keeps himself so, his body will be ready for ever greater efforts; if he lets himself go flabby, he will lose even the abilities he has. The more a student learns, the more he can learn; but if he refuses to go on learning, he will lose the knowledge he has. This is just another way of saying that there is no standing still in life. All the time we are either going forward or going back. The seeker will always find; but the man who stops seeking will lose even what he has. Thus, it is important that we always seek the renewal of our covenant with God. You have the opportunity now to talk to God and state the desires of your heart.
