*TEXT: 2 KINGS 20:12-21*
*TOPIC: HEZEKIAH'S COSTLY MISTAKE*

Soon after King Hezekiah's miraculous healing and deliverance from death, the news spread throughout the region and beyond. The prince of the king of Babylon, Marduk-Baladan, also heard about this miracle and immediately sent letters and a gift to Hezekiah. Although we are not told what King Hezekiah said or the content of the letters from Babylon, we can deduce some things from his reaction.

King Hezekiah used this visit to proudly display his wealth and armory to the heathen envoys which was a mark of pride and calling attention to himself.

Perhaps he was so full of his victory over death and failed to point the visiting guests to the Lord who was the source of his healing and the nation's wealth and might.

This attitude resonates well with most of us reading this devotion today. After God answers our prayers with dramatic results, we simply forget Him and begin to bask in the euphoria of how well we have done to get us to our present position.

*QUESTION:* When God answers your prayers, are you humbled or proud?

*PRAYER:* Help me, Oh Lord, never to lose sight of You, especially when my prayers are answered, in Jesus name, Amen.

*TEXT: 2 KINGS 19 : 29 - 37*
*TOPIC: GOD ANSWERS KING HEZEKIAH'S PRAYERS*

The text opens with the words "This will be the sign for you, Hezekiah" (vs. 29).

First, God provided food for the entire land after a long period of living under Assyrian fear and threats.

Second, God assured him that no matter what happens, there would always be remnants from Judah. This clearly indicated that no force or power can wipe the Jews from the face of the earth.

Third, King Sennacherib was barred from entering Jerusalem because the Lord Himself defended the city for His name's sake and for David His servant. Also, the angel of the Lord slaughtered 185, 000 Assyrian soldiers in one night which forced Sennacherib to return home where he was killed by two of his sons.

God answered the prayers of King Hezekiah and Isaiah which demonstrated that whoever trusts in Him will never be put to shame.

*TEXT: 2 KINGS 19:1-13*
*TOPIC: HEZEKIAH SOUGHT HELP FROM THE LORD (I)*

King Hezekiah interpreted the condition of his nation correctly which enabled him seek the right solution from the right source.

He described the situation as "a day of rebuke and disgrace, as when children come to the moment of birth and there is no strength" and that the king of Assyria had sent a messenger "to ridicule the living God" (vs. 3-4).

Although Hezekiah recognized their helplessness as human beings against the Assyrians, he knew without any doubt that the Lord is the solution.

After all, the Assyrian king had clearly shown that he wanted to demonstrate that the Lord was as impotent as other nations gods!

God honored Hezekiah's faith as He answered Isaiah's prayers and declared that He "will have him [king Sennacherib] cut down with the sword" (vs. 7).

God has never abandoned His children, irrespective of their difficulties, even when His response is not as we desire.

_*QUESTION:* When difficulties and crisis come, where do you run to for help?_

_*PRAYER:* Take a few minutes to consider what difficulty you are facing right now. Talk to God about it and watch Him respond._

*TOPIC: MONEY MATTERS AND EFFECTIVE SERVICE DELIVERY*

Money matters is one of the areas through which great leaders are tested.

A look at African leaders will reveal that almost all of them are adjudged to be failing because of the way they use their nations resources in the service of their peoples. Many church leaders and Christian organizations are not left out.

King Joash gave a very clear instruction that the Temple should be renovated and stated how the funds should be sourced.

For twenty three years of Joash's reign, the Temple was never renovated. Although we are not told why, it may be as a result of too much priestly duties or poor financial management.

Perhaps as priests, they lacked the necessary financial education to handle the huge amount collected.

As a leader who must account for all the money released through you, you must ensure it is properly accounted for within a reasonable period.

_*QUESTION:* How would you rate yourself regarding financial accountability on a scale of 1-10?_

_*PRAYER:* Do you have challenges in managing your money or money entrusted into your care? Take time to pray and ask God to help you develop a system of integrity._
