HONORING SPIRITUAL LEADERSHIP AND CULTIVATING PEACE
1 Thessalonians 5:12–13 (KJV)
The church is a spiritual family, and every family thrives on order, mutual respect, and harmony. God ordains leadership—not for domination, but for guidance, instruction, and spiritual oversight. This scripture teaches us how to relate with spiritual authority and maintain unity in the body of Christ.
1. RECOGNIZE AND RESPECT SPIRITUAL LEADERSHIP
“Know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord…”
What it means:
Know them — Acknowledge and appreciate their work and calling
Labour among you — They are not distant rulers, but hands-on servants
Over you in the Lord — Their authority comes from God, not man
Hebrews 13:17 — Obey them that have the rule over you…
1 Timothy 5:17 — Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour…
Spiritual leaders are gifts from God to the church. When a church dishonors leadership, it limits divine flow. When leadership is respected, grace flows freely.
2. ESTEEM THEM HIGHLY IN LOVE
“Esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake.
What it means:
Not just respect — but high respect
Not just duty — but love
Not because of personality — but because of their work
Practical ways to esteem leaders:
A. Pray for them
B. Speak well of them
C. Support their vision
D. Avoid gossip and criticism
E. Stand with them during challenges
Romans 13:7 …render therefore to all their dues… honour to whom honour.
Galatians 6:6 — Let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things.
3.THE RESULT: PEACE AND UNITY
…And be at peace among yourselves.
What it means:
When leadership is honored → the people become united.
When unity prevails → the Spirit of God moves freely.
Churches that fight leadership eventually fight themselves.
Churches that honor leadership enjoy peace, growth, and blessings.
Psalm 133:1–3 — Behold how good and pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity…
1 Corinthians 1:10 — …that there be no divisions among you.
4. LEADERSHIP IS FOR SERVICE, NOT CONTROL
Paul emphasizes labor and admonition, not domination.
True leaders:
Serve
Teach
Guide
Protect
Pray for their flock
Shepherd with love
Jesus’ Model:
Mark 10:45
“For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister.

3. Lord, let there be peace and unity in our Church family in the name of Jesus.
4. Father, remove every spirit of strife, division, and gossip in Jesus name.
5. Lord, help us to walk in love toward one another in the name of Jesus Christ.
