You are young, but don’t let anyone treat you as if you are not important...
1 Timothy 4:12 ERV

You are still a young man, but everyone should respect you as the leader in the church...
1 Timothy 4:12 EASY

A call to ministry is a call to honour.
Apostle Paul told Pastor Timothy not to allow anyone to disrespect him as the leader of the church, even though he was young in age.

As a pastor, don't give people the opportunity to disrespect you.
As a pastor, people will not respect you because of your age, they will respect you due to your carriage.

The following are the ways to lose your respect as a pastor:

1. π—•π—˜π—šπ—šπ—œπ—‘π—š.. Do not carry a beggar's bag...
Matthew 10:10 GNT

As a pastor, if you are a beggar, you will lose your honour, especially if you beg from members.

While one of the prophets was working, his ax head fell off and dropped into the water. "Oh!" he shouted. "Sir, I borrowed this ax."
2 Kings 6:5 CEV

Incessant borrowing, especially if you cannot pay back as and when due, will attract disrespect and dishonour to you.

I remember how I borrowed money from a member many years ago, and when I could not readily pay back, she went and met my Resident Pastor and Treasurer and asked for her money. They had to use church money to settle the debt and bail me out of shame.

Stop borrowing money from loan apps.
Stop borrowing money and items from your church members incessantly.

1 Timothy 5:2 TLB

Apostle Paul told Pastor Timothy to treat the younger women in the Church with purity.

As a pastor, if sexual immorality is the sin that easily besets you, don't commit it with your members. It is one way to lose one's respect and destroy one's ministry.

4. π—©π—œπ—¦π—œπ—§π—œπ—‘π—š π— π—˜π— π—•π—˜π—₯𝗦' π—›π—’π—¨π—¦π—˜π—¦ 𝗧𝗒𝗒 π—’π—™π—§π—˜π—‘ 𝗔𝗑𝗗 π—¦π—’π—–π—œπ—”π—Ÿπ—œπ—π—œπ—‘π—š π—ͺπ—œπ—§π—› π—§π—›π—˜π— .. Go not from house to house.

Proverbs 25:17 EASY

Stop loitering in your members' houses. Avoid appearing as a hungry pastor who goes to members' houses to eat.

You can visit for serious reasons and on special occasions, not on a regular and social basis.

One way to lose respect very quickly is to beg or pester people to host you in their churches or programs.

If someone invites you, he is likely to treat you well, but if you invite yourself, you are likely to be treated with contempt, disdain, ignominy, and levity.

Maintain your dignity in ministry, you are a minister and not a hustler.

Deborah was a Prophetess and a Judge. She had a physical location where people met her for her prophetic ministry.

Her location was under the palm tree of Deborah in Mount Ephraim.

No matter what you do in ministry, if you don't have a physical location where people can locate you, they will not respect you.

Even if you are an itinerant minister, you must have a physical office.

If you have a big social media presence but people later discover that you don't have a physical location, they will start undermining you.

If you lobby for people to submit to you, you will be insulted and disrespected in the long run.

It is offensive to call someone your spiritual son, when you have not invested in him spiritually and even otherwise.

If you did not raise someone, don't claim him.

Conclusively, ministry is a high calling, don't disrespect the call through ignorance and carelessness, and make people disrespect you.

Adventist Church in Northern Nigeria Mourns!

With hearts weighed down by sorrow, and in solemn submission to the perfect will of our God, the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Northern Nigeria announces with profound grief, the passing of our beloved President, Pastor Dr. Istifanus Ishaya.

For weeks, the entire church family across the Northern Nigeria Union Conference lifted their voices in united prayer, pleading for God’s healing touch, hoping for his swift recovery, believing for strength and restoration.

But on the quiet evening of Friday, February 6th, 2026, after a brief period of ill-health, the gentle shepherd of our fold slipped into the peaceful rest of the saints, awaiting the call of the Life-giver on the resurrection morning.

Today, our churches mourn.
Our pulpits grow silent.
Our hearts ache with a grief too deep for words.

Yet we cling to the blessed hope, trusting that death is not the end, but a temporary sleep until the trumpet shall sound.

We invite the entire Adventist family to keep his immediate family, the Northern Nigeria Union Conference, and all who knew and loved him in earnest prayer.

May the God of all comfort
wrap us in His everlasting arms, and grant us strength for this dark hour.

Rest well, God’s servant.
Till we meet at the feet of Jesus.

YOU NEED OF A GOOD SHEPHERD?

Beloved in the Lord,
Hear the words of Jesus: β€œI am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me” (John 10:14). This is not just a comforting statementβ€”it is a life-giving truth. It reminds us that we are not meant to journey through life alone, confused, or unprotected. We need a Shepherd, and Jesus Christ is that Good Shepherd.

A sheep without a shepherd is vulnerableβ€”easily lost, easily attacked, and unable to find its way to safety. In the same way, when we choose to live apart from Christ, we become like stray and wandering sheep, guided by our own feelings, the noise of the world, or false voices. But Jesus lovingly calls us to Himself and says, β€œFollow Me.”

The Good Shepherd provides care and direction. Psalm 23 tells us that He leads us to green pastures and still waters. This means Christ supplies our spiritual needs, gives rest to our weary souls, and nourishes us with His Word. Even when life takes us through dark valleysβ€”valleys of sickness, fear, loss, or uncertaintyβ€”He is with us. His rod and His staff comfort us.

The Good Shepherd also provides protection and sacrifice. Jesus declared, β€œI am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep” (John 10:11). Unlike hired hands who flee when danger comes, Jesus stood in our place. On the cross, He laid down His life so that we might live. This is the ultimate proof of His love.

Finally, the Good Shepherd calls for relationship and obedience. β€œMy sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me” (John 10:27). To belong to Christ is to recognize His voice in Scripture, to trust His guidance, and to walk in His path daily.

Beloved, do not be a wandering sheep. Stay close to Jesus. Trust His voice above all others. Let it be your confession today: β€œThe Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want.” Amen. πŸ™

WHEN WE SAY β€œCONGRATULATIONS” TO A CHURCH POSITIONβ€”WHAT ARE WE REALLY CELEBRATING?

Somewhere along the way, the church adopted a strange habit: treating spiritual assignments the same way the world treats promotions. A pastor is transferred? β€œCongratulations!” Someone is elected to a church office? β€œCongratulations!” A leader moves to the conference? β€œCongratulations!”

But a serious question hangs in the air:
What exactly are we celebrating?
Because nothing in Scripture treats ministry roles as career upgrades.

1. CHURCH POSITIONS ARE ASSIGNMENTS, NOT PROMOTIONS

In the corporate world, congratulations make senseβ€”higher pay, more prestige, a nicer office. But in God’s work, a new role simply means a new responsibility. Paul calls ministry β€œa good work” (1 Tim. 3:1), not a good advancement. Leadership in the church is not climbing upwardβ€”it’s kneeling lower.

2. MINISTRY IS ABOUT GOD’S MISSION, NOT HUMAN ELEVATION

A church officer is not being β€œelevated”; they’re being entrusted. Heaven isn’t impressed by titles. Heaven is concerned with faithfulness, humility and the weight of souls. The moment we treat church roles like status upgrades, we fertilize pride in the very place God planted humility.

3. THE HARM OF β€œCONGRATULATIONS”

This culture may look harmless, but it slowly reshapes the church:
β€’ It makes ministry feel like a career ladder.
β€’ It encourages ambition instead of calling.
β€’ It teaches people to chase titles instead of service.
β€’ It introduces competition where there should be consecration.

We begin to measure God’s work with worldly metricsβ€”and the cross disappears behind leadership badges.

4. A MOMENT THAT CUT DEEP

I once spoke at a private family event not too long ago where another pastorβ€”recently elected to the conferenceβ€”was present. A lady stood up during her speech and proudly announced, β€œHe used to be our pastor but he has just been promoted to the conference…”

The word β€œpromoted” pierced me!

I’ve received β€œcongratulations” myself when moved from one district to another. Yet my spirit has always resisted the idea. These are not promotions. These are just reassignments in the Lord’s vineyard.

And here is the uncomfortable truth:

5. IF THESE ARE β€œPROMOTIONS,” WHY THE DOUBLE STANDARD?

If reassignment is a promotion, then why don’t we congratulate:
β€’ the pastor moved from a city church to a rural district?
β€’ the former conference president now serving a local congregation?
β€’ the former first elder now assigned as an usher?

We don’tβ€”because deep down, we only congratulate what looks like a climb upward.
And that exposes the real problem:
We have become secular-spirited people celebrating secular ideas inside a sacred space.

This mentality is killing the spirituality of the church and encouraging worldly methods to β€œrise” in ministry.

6. WHAT WE SHOULD SAY INSTEAD

In Scripture, no one was applauded for receiving a divine assignment. They were prayed for.
Strengthened.
Blessed.
Consecrated.

Better words would be:
β€œMay God strengthen you.”
β€œWe are praying for you.”
β€œMay God give you wisdom for this responsibility.”

That is the language of a spiritual churchβ€”not applause, but intercession.

7. THE CALL

Let us stop baptizing secular ambitions and calling them spiritual victories.
Let us resist turning ministry into a ranking system.
Church roles are not achievementsβ€”they are responsibilities.

Let’s return to a culture of prayer, humility, and service.

We must stop this trend before the world finishes reshaping the church in its own image.

And we have these β€œcongratulatory” messages being posted on official church pages?
