HATH

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, HATH everlasting life [zoe], and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. — JOHN 5:24

Hath! You’ve got eternal life now! You’re not going to get it when you get to Heaven; you’ve got zoe now!

But if you don’t know about that zoe life — if you don’t know what it is, or how to walk in the light of it — you’ll never be able to enjoy the realities of it.

You can have something in the natural and not know you have it, and it won’t do you any good. For example, sometime before Christmas of 1947, I decided to put away a little money for my wife’s gift. I started by putting a $20 bill in the secret compartment of my billfold. Then I forgot all about it. A few weeks later, I ran out of gas. I didn’t have any money to buy any gas, so I had to call one of the deacons of the church to come and get me. Sometime later I was going through the billfold and found that $20. Now, you couldn’t really say I didn’t have the money when I ran out of gas. I had it, but I didn’t know it, so it didn’t do me any good.

God gave us His Word so we could find out what we have — eternal life — and then walk in the light of it.

Confession:
I will learn to walk in the light of what I have — eternal life.

Let God Do It His Way!

Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands . . .—HEBREWS 6:2

Let’s read the following Bible account about a man named Naaman who had leprosy.
2 KINGS 5:1, 9–14

1 Now Naaman, captain of the host of the king of Syria, was a great man with his master, and honourable, because by him the Lord had given deliverance unto Syria: he was also a mighty man in valour, but he was a l***r. . . .

9 So Naaman came with his horses and with his chariot, and stood at the door of the house of Elisha.
10 And Elisha sent a messenger unto him, saying, Go and wash in Jordan seven times, and thy flesh shall come again to thee, and thou shalt be clean.
11 But NAAMAN WAS WROTH, AND WENT AWAY, AND SAID, Behold, I THOUGHT, HE WILL SURELY COME OUT TO ME, AND STAND, AND CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD HIS GOD, AND STRIKE HIS HAND OVER THE PLACE, AND RECOVER THE L***R.
12 Are not Abana and Pharpar, rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? may I not wash in them, and be clean? SO HE TURNED AND WENT AWAY IN A RAGE.
13 And his servants came near, and spake unto him, and said, My father, if the prophet had bid thee do some great thing, wouldest thou not have done it? how much rather then, when he saith to thee, Wash, and be clean?
14 Then went he down, and dipped himself seven times in Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God: and his flesh came again like unto the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.

Notice that the prophet Elisha did not even go out to minister to Naaman. Naaman, a mighty man of valor and captain of the host of the king of Syria, never did get to see Elisha. Instead, Elisha sent his servant to tell Naaman what to do. Naaman almost missed his healing by saying, “I thought surely the prophet would come out himself and call on the Name of the Lord on my behalf.” You see, many people miss their healing because they want it done their way. Let’s just let God do things His way and be blessed as we do.

Confession:
I don’t want to miss out on my healing. God, I will obey You; I will do what You want me to do in the way You want me to do it so that I may receive my healing. Thank You, Father.

WHAT TO BELIEVE

For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures. — 1 CORINTHIANS 15:3,4

I read some time ago about a so-called minister of the Gospel who was a man of some acclaim. Some reporters interviewed him when he arrived in a large city about an article he had written. In the article, he had stated, “There is some question as to whether Jesus ever rose from the dead. And it doesn’t really make any difference whether He did or not.”

It makes all the difference in the world!

It makes the difference between spiritual life and spiritual death — because that’s the way you receive eternal life. That’s the way you are born again — by believing that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, that He died for your sins according to the Scriptures, and that He arose from the dead!

Confession:
I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. I believe that He died for my sins according to the Scriptures. I believe that He was raised from the dead for my justification; that is, that I might be set right with God. I believe in my heart that I am the righteousness of God. I am made right with God through what Jesus did.

Put the Word Into Practice

But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.—JAMES 1:25

I was asked to preach at a certain convention in California. They wanted me to come and teach on the subject of faith. I didn’t have a “laying on of hands” service. I didn’t have a “preaching” or a “ministering” service. I just taught on the subject of faith.�There was a woman there who was a member of the First Foursquare Church of Pueblo, Colorado. She had said, “I’ll go to that convention and get Brother Hagin to lay hands on me.” She had terminal cancer.

Well, she came, but I wasn’t having a laying-on-of-hands service. I was simply teaching the Word. So she said to herself, I’ll just put that Word into practice myself. She acted on the Word she heard and was completely healed.

Two years later, I happened to be at this woman’s church in Pueblo, Colorado, and she was there. She gave her testimony. At first, her doctor just said that the cancer had gone into remission, but said that if she was still free of cancer after two years, it wouldn’t come back; she’d be cured. She’d gone in for her final examination right before I arrived.

After her examination, the nurse came up to her and asked, “Are you a member of one of those churches that believes in divine healing and the power of God?”

“Yes,” she said.

The nurse began to cry and said, “You know, the doctor and I already figured that out. We have your test results. This had to be a miracle of God!”

Confession:
I am not just a hearer of the Word. I am a doer of the Word. I act on what God’s Word says, and I receive healing.

DIVINE NATURE

Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. — 2 PETER 1:4

When you became a child of God, God imparted His own nature — eternal life — to you. This life, this nature, this being, this substance of God, instantly changed your spirit.

You passed from spiritual death — the realm of Satan — into life, which is the realm of God (1 John 3:14). You passed from the dominion of Satan into the dominion of Christ.

When you received eternal life, the satanic nature passed out of you. The corruption from which you have escaped is spiritual death, the satanic nature (2 Peter 1:4).

The satanic nature passed out of you, not theoretically, but actually. Second Corinthians 5:17 states, “. . . old things are passed away . . . .” And God’s nature came into you.

Now you are a partaker of God’s divine nature — the nature of God — the life of God!

Confession:
God’s life is in me. God’s nature is in me. God’s ability is in me. God’s wisdom is in me. For me to fail, God would have to fail. And God can never fail! I am a partaker of His divine nature.

Don’t Dwell on Past Failures!

And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.—JAMES 5:15

The doctors had told this businessman that he could fall dead any minute because of a severe heart condition. He also had high blood pressure and a severe kidney condition. The doctors said that if he would sell his business, stay on his medication, and just lie around, he might possibly live another two years. That’s about the best they could offer. If he didn’t do that, he could fall dead in his place of business any minute.

I asked him the question that the Lord had asked me: “Do you believe that God would require you to do something that He wouldn’t do?”

“Why, no, certainly not,” he said.

We turned to Matthew 18:21 and 22 and read where Peter asked how often he should forgive his brother. Then we turned to James 5:14 and 15 and read that if a person has committed any sins, they will be forgiven him. That is the thing that keeps many people’s faith from working. They think that God won’t heal them because they’ve failed.

Confession:
Father God, I ask You to forgive me for any wrong I’ve committed. I thank You for forgiveness. I thank You for health and healing.

WHY DID JESUS COME?

The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. — JOHN 10:10

Why did Jesus come?

Did Jesus come to give us some creed to live by? Did He come to give us a code of ethics — a list of “do’s and don’ts” — to straighten us out? Did He come to start a new religion, or to found a new church?

No! Jesus came for one purpose: That we might have life, and that we might have it more abundantly!

This word “life” is the biggest word of the Gospel. Man needed life, because he was spiritually dead. Spiritual death, which is the nature of the devil, was imparted to man at the fall of man, when Adam sinned. The eradication of this devil-nature is what God has worked toward in all the ages. It was the reason why Jesus came to the earth. Jesus stated, “. . . I am come that they might have life . . . .”

The only thing that will meet man’s need is the nature of God: eternal life. Nothing can take its place.

When a person receives eternal life, he receives the nature of God, the life of God, into himself. This is that divine act that changes a man from the family of Satan to the family of God instantly.

Confession:
The life of God has been imparted to my spirit. I am alive unto God. The life of God — the nature of God — is imparted to my spirit. I will let the life and nature of God that’s in me, dominate me.

God Is Willing to Forgive

Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.—MATTHEW 18:21—22

I was holding a meeting in Houston, Texas, and a fine businessman came up to me and asked if he could talk to me.

I said, “I just don’t have time right now. But I tell you what I’ll do. I’ll come thirty minutes early tomorrow night, and I’ll meet you in the pastor’s office. I can talk to you for thirty minutes, but that’s all.”

The next night as I was getting ready, the Lord said to me, “Do you think that I’d require you to do something that I wouldn’t be willing to do?”

I said to the Lord, “Well, no, certainly not. That wouldn’t be right. That would be unjust. And You are not unjust.” The Lord asked me that question three more times, and I replied in the same way. The final time He asked me the question, He also said, “Remember, Peter came to Me and said, ‘If my brother sins against me, how oft shall I forgive him? Till seven times?’ And I said, ‘Not seven times, but seventy times seven.’ So I require you to forgive four hundred and ninety times in one day! Now if I require you to forgive, then would I be unwilling to forgive?”

I said, “Certainly not.”

Then I heard these words in my spirit, “Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; AND IF HE HAVE COMMITTED SINS, THEY SHALL BE FORGIVEN HIM” (James 5:14–15).

I drove up to the church and opened my Bible. I had read that passage in James hundreds of times, but I had never noticed that it said, “sins,” plural. The moment I went into the pastor’s office to talk to this man, I realized exactly what the Lord was doing; He was preparing me to help this man.

Confession:
God would not require me to do something that He wouldn’t be willing to do. He tells me to forgive another person 490 times in one day. And He is willing to forgive me 490 times in one day! I receive His forgiveness, and I receive healing.

RESTORING THE SOUL

He restoreth my soul . . . . — PSALM 23:3

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. — ROMANS 12:1,2

Writing to born-again, Spirit-filled Christians in Romans 12, Paul tells them to do something with their bodies and their minds. Man’s spirit is born again at the New Birth, but he still has the same body and the same soul. He is to present his body to God, and he is to see to it that his mind is renewed.

The Hebrew word translated “restoreth” in Psalm 23 and the Greek word translated “renewed” in Romans 12:2 have just about the same meaning. For example, a valuable, antique chair which looks like a wreck can be restored. Afterwards it’s still the same chair, but it has been renewed. A man’s spirit is never restored; it’s born again, or recreated.

But his soul is restored when his mind becomes renewed with the Word of God.

The greatest need of the Church today is for believers to have their minds renewed with the Word of God. It is the Word of God that restores souls, renews souls, and saves souls!

Confession:
I see to it daily that my mind is renewed with the Word of God. Therefore, I am not conformed to this world. My mind is renewed to think like God thinks.

God Has Promised You Long Life

With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.—PSALM 91:16

We used to have divine healing services every Saturday night in our church, and Grandma Jeffcoat would be carried in. Sometimes she would have a spell, and we would think she was dead. Then somehow she would start breathing again. Those were some experiences!

That went on for about six months. We can get faith into people by teaching them, but we also need to get them into services where God is manifesting Himself.

One Saturday night, Grandma Jeffcoat was at the service, and as we came to the close, I had a little quick vision about her. I saw her out of her chair dancing. I looked over at her and told her it was her time. I walked down off the platform, laid hands on her, and prayed. At the moment, nothing happened, but ten minutes later, she let out a yell, jumped out of the chair, and started dancing. She was healed!

Several years later, my wife and I stopped by to visit her when she was ninety-one years old. Her daughter said that she was away visiting some people and that she was always busy running around. Grandma Jeffcoat’s doctor had just examined her and said that he had never seen anything quite like it before. Her heart was perfect, and there wasn’t a thing wrong with her! The doctor was fifty-five and said that he wished he was in as good a condition as she was!

Grandma Jeffcoat died when she was ninety-three, without sickness and disease! She just fell asleep in Jesus. I’m so glad I didn’t let her die of that cancer.

Confession:
I will live a long life on the earth. And I will die without sickness and disease.
