"Gay Catholics"
Some of the headlines from news media as they try to report the recent news from the church on same s*x union read thus:
"Gay Catholics disappointed over Vatican same-s*x marriage ruling."
"In setback for gay Catholics, Vatican says church cannot bless same-s*x unions."
"Gay Catholics “Disturbed and Disappointed” by Pope’s Remarks."
________
There is something I want to understand. . . Which one is "Gay Catholics"?
Can one be proudly gay and Catholic at the same time?
Unless there is another definition of being gay.
Unless by "gay" we mean people who have the tendencies but DO NOT CARRY THEM OUT. People who are still conscious that the act is a sin according to the teachings of the bible and the church.
Even at this, it begs the question. Can one accept that such act is sinful and still be proud to describe his or herself publicly as gay?
On the other hand, if by being gay we mean people who not only see same s*x attraction as normal but are comfortable having or living with their partners and do not see anything wrong in professing that they are gay, the same situation that the church sees as sin. . .
Then,
Will it not be a contradiction to call this same persons Catholics? Can you be Catholic and still be against Catholic teachings happily and boldly?
Like adultery, like fornication, the church describe them as sins. It is a different thing that I commit these sins and still have that consciously that what I am doing is sinful, but it is another thing to see them as normal and will boldly describe myself as "Adulterous Catholic", to mean that I should not be criticised for living a life different from the church's teachings and that I should be accepted even though I have made it clear that I will not change or make effort to.
This is the same argument against Joe Biden. If he is a supporter of abortion and do not see anything wrong with it and can boldly come public to promote abortion, then why still describe him as Catholic? Can you be proudly pro abortion and proudly Catholic at the same time? Nah!
But sorry, I digressed.
The question is, can one be gay in the sense of living it out boldly and still be Catholic? Is it right to use the term "gay Catholic"???
Please help me out!
