Topic: EVIL DAYS
Text: 2 Timothy 3:1-9
Introduction to the Topic: Evil Days
Before we can fully understand the meaning of “evil days,” we must first understand the meaning of the word evil itself.
Evil simply refers to anything that is sinful, wicked, harmful, ungodly, or against the will of God. Evil includes actions, thoughts, behaviors, and attitudes that oppose righteousness and bring pain, destruction, hatred, fear, corruption, and separation from God. The Bible describes evil as darkness, because it moves people away from the light and truth of God.
Examples of evil we see today include:
Hatred and violence
Dishonesty and corruption
Sexual immorality
Greed and oppression
Pride and selfishness
False teachings and deception
Disobedience to God
When people reject God’s ways and choose sinful living, evil increases in society.
Now, when we combine the two words — evil and days — the term “evil days” refers to dangerous, difficult, sinful, and spiritually corrupt times in which wickedness becomes widespread in the world.
Evil days are periods when:
Sin becomes common and accepted
Many people no longer fear God
Truth is rejected
Good is called evil, and evil is called good
The hearts of people grow cold
Deception and wickedness increase
The Bible speaks clearly about these evil days. In Second Epistle to Timothy 3:1, the Bible says:
“But know this, that in the last days perilous times shall come.”
This means there will be seasons where the world becomes spiritually dangerous. People will become more selfish, proud, violent, dishonest, and ungodly. Many will still appear religious outwardly, but their lives will not reflect true godliness.
Even in our generation today, we can see signs of these evil days:
Families breaking apart
Increase in crime and insecurity
Love growing cold among people
Social media influencing immorality and pride
People valuing money more than integrity
False prophets deceiving many people
Fear, depression, and hopelessness increasing in society
In the book of Epistle to the Ephesians 5:16, the Bible says:
“Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.”
This verse reminds believers to live wisely and stay spiritually alert because the world around us is becoming more corrupt.
However, the purpose of studying about evil days is not to make us afraid. Instead, it is to help believers prepare spiritually, remain faithful to God, avoid deception, and continue living as light in a dark world.
As Christians, even though we live in evil days, God expects us to stand firm, remain prayerful, walk in holiness, and keep our faith in Jesus Christ until the end.
