PENTECOST IS HERE

Today, the Church across the world celebrates the great feast of Pentecost — the day the Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles like tongues of fire, filling them with courage, wisdom, strength, and divine mission. It is the birthday of the Church, the triumph of grace over fear, and the moment ordinary men became powerful witnesses of Christ.

For we the Congregation of the Holy Spirit — the Spiritans — this celebration carries an even deeper meaning. Today is not only a feast; it is an identity. The Holy Spirit is the heart of our vocation, the fire behind our mission, and the breath that sustains our service to humanity.

At Pentecost, the Apostles were gathered in uncertainty, fear, and waiting. Then suddenly, heaven moved. The Spirit came with power, and everything changed. Fear became boldness. Weakness became strength. Silence became proclamation. The same Holy Spirit still moves today — healing hearts, renewing faith, restoring hope, and sending believers into the world as lights in darkness.

The mission of the Congregation of the Holy Spirit (SPIRITANS) has always reflected this Pentecostal fire: to go where others may not go, to serve the forgotten, to uplift the poor, to educate, evangelize, heal, and bring Christ’s love to every corner of humanity. The Spirit does not choose the qualified; He qualifies those He calls.

Today reminds every Christian that we are not alone. The Holy Spirit still speaks. He still comforts the broken, strengthens the weary, guides the confused, and rekindles dying hope. Where there is despair, He brings renewal. Where there is division, He brings unity. Where hearts are cold, He sets them ablaze again with love for God.

May this Pentecost renew the entire Church and bless all members of the Congregation of the Holy Spirit worldwide. May the fire of the Holy Spirit burn away fear, discouragement, and weakness. May He fill every heart with wisdom, holiness, joy, and missionary zeal.

As the Spirit moved over the waters at creation and descended upon the Apostles at Pentecost, may He move again in our lives, our families, our communities, and our world.

Come, Holy Spirit.
Fill the hearts of Your faithful
and kindle in them the fire of Your love.

Today, we remember with love and prayer our brother, Julius Eneche, C.S.Sp. on his 4th death anniversary. Though he was once among us in this earthly journey, we trust firmly that he now rests in the loving embrace of God at His right hand.
As St. Paul reminds us:
“For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep.” (1 Thessalonians 4:14).

May the hope of the resurrection strengthen us, knowing that death is not the end, and that one day we shall reunite again in Christ on the last day.
We pray that the Lord may continue to grant Julius eternal rest, forgive his shortcomings, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his memory continue to inspire us in our journey toward faithful discipleship and priesthood.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord.
And let perpetual light shine upon him.
May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

HAPPY FEAST OF OUR FOUNDER

Today, we celebrate Venerable Fr. Francis Libermann, the second founder of our Congregation.

Fr. Libermann was truly a man ahead of his time—a man with a message whose vision transcended the limits of his own era and context. While much of the Western world gloried in cultural imperialism, he challenged his missionaries in Africa with these prophetic words:

“Forget about Europe, its customs, its ways of thinking; you have to make yourselves blacks with the blacks so as to form them in their own way and not according to the European model.”
(cited in de Mare, p. 351)

These words continue to inspire our missionary approach today.

Currently, Spiritans serve in more than 60 countries across the world, witnessing to the Gospel with respect for cultures and peoples.

The Congregation of the Holy Spirit announces the sad news of “the return to the house of the Father” of our Confrere and Priest Francois Morency, C.S.Sp. who slept in the Lord on the 21st January, 2026 at the age of 91.

For us as a Province it is a heart-wrenching news because he was one of the many Canadian missionaries who evangelized the Catholic diocese of Idah where we are still actively present and serving in parishes. The name “Fr Morency” is till today a household name in many parishes in the diocese not just for the holiness of his life as a pastor of souls but also because his life, sweat and words were mixed with both the mortar and concrete of existing parish structures. His very hands built the parish churches of Ss Peter and Paul Egume, Holy Cross Parish Dekina, Sacred Heart Parish Ankpa, Holy Spirit Parish Imane, Spiritan Postulancy House Okura- Sawmill and St Francis of Assisi Okura-Olafia being the last place he worked. He was a Veteran missionary, a Holy Pastor, a dynamic Builder and a faithful son of our Founders. His legacies will outlive him, his name etched forever in our hearts and his sacrifices eternally upheld in gratitude.

May the angels welcome him into the habitations of heaven and may the Lord of the vineyard grant him the deserved rest of an accomplished Labourer.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY FATHER SUPERIOR

Today, heaven smiles twice , for we celebrate both the birth of our Lord and the birth of a remarkable shepherd, father, mentor, and guide. What a divine synchronization of grace it is that your birthday falls on the day Love Himself was born.

Rev. Fr. Sixtus, you are a true shepherd after God’s own heart, a man of deep wisdom, gentle strength, and uncommon humility. Your leadership is firm yet fatherly, inspiring yet approachable. You lead not by force, but by example; not by fear, but by love. Your sense of humor brings warmth to our community, reminding us that holiness and joy walk hand in hand. In moments of seriousness, you bring light, in moments of fatigue, you bring encouragement.

As our superior, you have carried us with patience, prayed for us with sincerity, and loved us with a pastoral heart that reflects Christ Himself. You see the best in us even when we struggle to see it in ourselves. For this, and for so much more, we are deeply grateful.

As we gather to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ, may this sacred occasion bring forth blessings, hope, and joy to your heart and home. May the spirit of love, compassion, and kindness guide you throughout this festive season and beyond.
