IMPERFECT MEN.
______________________
With joined hands and bent knees much often,
In groans and tarrying not a few,
Plain men an wanderers described you,
Imperfect confirming through your truth,
Broken and speaking in your shoes,
Find oh! My imperfect fissure too.
Joseph limped upon his cracked sinew,
Leaning upon his staff in worship,
Moses unable to speak in tune,
Endured as seeing who is invisible,
Joseph a keeper bound in prison,
Brought forth over the land of Egypt,
Judah who made a brief diversion,
Bore still the strength sprouting your firm root,
Peter a fisherman so crude, converted a thousand multitude,
Find oh Lord! My imperfect fissure too.
Have you seen their broken frame? By night yearning and awake,
Have you seen their shaking legs? And on their knees in tears,
Have you glimpsed their empty shame? Calling upon your name,
Have you seen their earnest faith? Holding through sun or rain,
Find oh! My imperfect fissure too.
Have you heard their drunk worship? Not mindful of the tense,
Have you heard their ancient hymns? Redemption hangs a tree,
Have you heard their one anthem? Through death and yet proclaims,
Have you heard their strange habit? Sojourned the promise as pilgrims,
Find oh Lord! My imperfect fissure too.
