CANONIZATION ALERT - Pope Leo XIV to Approve Canonization of Eight Blesseds in Vatican Ceremony on June 13
Vatican City – Pope Leo XIV will convene a consistory of cardinals at the Vatican on June 13 to grant final approval for the canonization of eight blesseds whose causes were advanced under the pontificate of Pope Francis.
The solemn gathering, known as an Ordinary Public Consistory, will mark a pivotal moment in the lives of these individuals, who are now set to be declared saints of the Catholic Church. The eight blesseds are recognized for their extraordinary holiness and virtue, and their elevation to sainthood signifies the Church’s formal recognition of their intercessory power and exemplary Christian witness.
These causes were initially championed by Pope Francis, whose papacy emphasized the recognition of diverse models of holiness, including laypeople, missionaries, and those who served the marginalized.
The consistory will take place at the Apostolic Palace and is expected to draw high-ranking prelates and members of the Roman Curia. A date for the canonization ceremonies is anticipated to be announced shortly after the consistory.
This event continues the Church’s centuries-old tradition of elevating to sainthood those whose lives inspire the faithful and reflect the Gospel's call to charity, humility, and faithfulness.
