TOPIC: THE MYSTERY OF THE CROSS
TEXT: LUKE 9:23 1 CORINTHIANS 1:18-27
PREACHER: MAMA KOBIRUO UKWADE
WHAT IS THE CROSS?
The cross is not just the place where Jesus died; it is the center of God’s redemptive plan. It is where sin was judged, love was revealed, justice was satisfied, and grace was released.
WHAT IS THE MYSTERY OF THE CROSS?
The mystery of the cross is that what looked like shame, weakness, and defeat in the eyes of men was actually God’s wisdom, power, and greatest victory.
History saw crucifixion, but heaven saw redemption.
WHAT THE CROSS REVEALS
1)The love of God — John 3:16; Romans 5:8
2)The justice of God — Romans 3:25–26; Isaiah 53:5–6
3)The wisdom and power of God — 1 Corinthians 1:18, 23–24; 1 Corinthians 2:7–8
4)Access to the Father — Matthew 27:51; Hebrews 10:19–22; Ephesians 2:13, 18
5)The death of self / crucifixion of the old man — Romans 6:6; Galatians 2:20
6)Victory over sin, death, and Satan — Colossians 2:14–15; Hebrews 2:14–15; 1 Corinthians 15:54–57
7)The pattern of discipleship — Luke 9:23; Matthew 16:24; Philippians 3:10
WHY IS IT THE SECOND CONDITION FOR DISCIPLESHIP
—Because discipleship is not only about denying self, but also about understanding and embracing the cross.
—A disciple must know what the cross means before he can truly take up his own cross.
—You cannot carry what you do not understand.
—The cross is not only the message of Christ’s death for us, but also the pattern of our death to self and life in Him.
CONCLUSION
The cross is more than an event to admire; it is a mystery to understand and a life to embrace.
The cross is not only where Jesus died for me; it is also the pattern for how I must now live for Him.
