There are quite a lot to learn from Jonathan, a man with a heart of gold. Today, we want to explore another area of his life that can be of great benefit to us.

Jonathan understood his destiny and was willing to operate there, He knew so well that God had not ordained him to be the next king after Saul, his father. He knew that according to divine design, David had been anointed king and there was nothing anyone could do to reverse that. He understood his place and allocation in life and was not afraid to operate there. He was not timid of being a second in command "...and thou shalt be king over Israel. and I shall be next unto thee; and that also Saul my father knoweth" (I Samuel 23:17). To him. being a king and the first in command is not a do or die affair. He was not intoxicated about being in power. Rather, he just wanted to fulfil his own calling as designed by his maker.

In life, we cannot all be the first in rank. Everyone cannot be president. Even in our body, there is the head, leg, eyes and so on. If all the body parts are craving to be the head, where is the heart that will pump the blood to make the head a living head? By divine design, some have been designed to be the first in rank, while others have been designed to be second or third in rank. Some have been created to be the neck that will support the head. The most important thing is for us to find out what God, the master planner, has earmarked for us in life and operate there.

Beloved, not all will be kings in physical position, but you can enthrone and crown yourself a king in your place of your divine destiny, if you operate well. Have you found out who you are? Do you know your divine destiny? I admonish you to seek the face of God today, so that you stop struggling, trying to be who God has not created you to be. Correctly position yourself and see how life can be rewarding rather than frustrating.

*The MESSAGE:*
Man, that is born of a woman is born into trouble. Whether poor or rich, good or bad, believer or unbeliever, every human will have a taste of a troubled experience in his lifetime. However, the degree at which troubles come to everyone differs. Troubles are part of life, whether we like it or not, but our attitude towards it will determine how it gets to make or mar us.

Beloved, when trouble comes, let not your heart be unsettled. If you allow your heart to be troubled, it will pave the way for more troubles and fears than the heart can handle. Note that all great heroes and heroines all through ages have stories of dark hours to tell.

One beautiful thing about this phase of life is that it has produced giants, both in the kingdom of God and in the secular world. A lot of people get to discover their treasures during these troubled moments. But sadly too, such moments have swallowed others who could not see the light at the end of the tunnel. The difference, therefore, is perception and choice.

I charge you to trust in the Lord with all your heart at such times. Be in the company of like- minded believers who can sharpen you. Get yourself addicted to God's word, take ample time to rest, take a break from stress, exercise your body, eat well, take a walk. Sometimes, listen to inspiring music, have good sleep, and most importantly, help someone else going through troubles. All these will help to get you to calm down during troubled moments. Don't worry. Cheer up; it shall end in praise and testimonies, in Jesus' name.

Beloved, Jesus' statement, "Let not your heart be troubled" implies that you have control over how you respond to the burdens and challenges you face in life. God expects you to be calm and trust Him even in uncertain circumstances. This is because we serve a living God who cares for His children. He has defeated the darkness of this world and we are in His winning team. Those who have courageous trust in Him will be free from worries and will enjoy His peace.

*The MESSAGE:*
Another condition for getting prayer answered can be found in today's Fire Scripture - "Don't give up." The woman in the story did not give up. She kept on going to the judge every blessed day, telling him to avenge her of her adversary. She eventually got her prayer answered. The reason was that she did not give up. If you want your prayers to be answered, you must not give up; keep at it. Some people are convinced that we should pray for something only once. They say there is lack of faith if someone prays for something more than once. Paul prayed three times for the thorn to be removed from his flesh, but God didn't remove the thorn. Instead, He told Paul, "My grace is sufficient for thee; for my strength is made perfect in weakness" (2 Corinthians 12:9). Paul never prayed for the thorn to be removed again after God answered him. He concluded, "Most gladly, therefore, will I rather glory in infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me."

Dearly beloved, Jesus also prayed three times in the Garden of Gethsemane on the night of His arrest. Matthew 26:44 says, "And finally He said, "Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done." Jesus is our example. Because He prayed for something more than once, we can do the same. Some people give up easily when they pray. This is because they feel that the answer is not forthcoming the way and manner they want. It should not be so. If you want answers to your prayer, you must not give up. Continue to pray until God tells you "Yes, or No" or wait. Then your confidence will be boosted that God has answered, and this is the step He wants you to take. Therefore, I enjoin you to continue until God answers. Be like Paul and Jesus. God bless you.

*MESSAGE*

Another condition that must be met to get your prayer answered is that you must remove idols from your heart. When there is an idol in your heart at the altar of prayer, it simply means that you are putting something above God. Your idol cannot and will never answer your prayers. So, if you want to get your prayers answered, you must give up your idols. God will not compete with them.

In our Fire Scripture today, some of the leaders and influential men of Israel were guilty of idolatry in their hearts. In other words, they were not loyal to God and His words but had allowed other things to take priority over their love for the Lord. These men rejected God’s purposes and desired an ungodly lifestyle. For this reason, God refused to guide them or answer their prayers. In fact, the Lord’s response will not be what they expected. It would no doubt be a harsh punishment, just as their action deserved.

Dear reader of this devotional, those who look for God’s guidance will find no help from His Spirit if their hearts are filled with ungodly desires and their priorities are not focused on Him.

Take for instance, a woman that is not properly married to a man but is already co-habiting with him and after some months now decided to go and enquire from the Lord, if the man is the right man for her. Such a woman is a joker. This is because, having already given herself to the man, God cannot be involved. She will receive answers according to her deeds. To receive answers from God, you must eliminate every idol from your heart. God told Prophet Ezekiel these words about the leaders of Israel who came to Him, “Since those people had idols in their hearts, should they even pray to me at all? That is why we need to be very careful.

*The MESSAGE:*
Yesterday, we said that faith is a condition you need to get your prayer answered. We will be going further on it today. According to our Fire Scripture, Jesus told His disciples this salient truth. The previous day, he saw a fig tree with leaves and hoped to find fruits, but was disappointed when He did not see a single fruit on it. So, he now made this pronouncement, "No man eat fruit of thee hereafter forever" (vs 14). His disciples heard it when He said the words. And on the following day, they came through the same route and found that the fig tree had dried up from the root (vs 20). The Bible says, "Peter calling to remembrance saith unto Him, Master behold, the fig tree which thou cursedst is withered away" (vs 21).

Beloved, Jesus made a declaration that no man would eat fruit of the fig tree thereafter forever, and it dried up. That was great faith in action. Jesus, when He was on earth, taught the disciples both theory and practical. The practical aspect is the faith that dried up the fig tree. All through the Bible, God is both the source and the object of true faith. We too must focus our faith and trust, not on the issue involved and not on faith itself, but fully on God. We need to work on our faith in God. Jesus said when we pray, we should believe that we have received, and we shall have our request.

Sometimes what we believe for may happen immediately. At other times, it may not. Yet, God gives the faith that our prayers have been heard and that He will respond in His perfect time and way. Dear reader of this devotional, may be you have been praying and yet you have not really experienced meaningful testimony, try and leave your prayers in the hands of God and let Him settle you in His own time and season. He is forever faithful!

*The MESSAGE:*
Another condition of getting prayer answered is to have faith without wavering. Here in our Fire Scripture, we read about a man whose son had a demon in him, apparently a deaf and dumb spirit. The spirit had been tormenting the boy and the family was in distress until the father brought him to the disciples. The first comment of Jesus was, "O faithless generation how long shall I be with you? How long shall I suffer you? Bring him unto me." It is very clear that the father of that boy did not have enough faith for the boy's healing that was why all the prayer of deliverance were not effective in casting out the demon. Faith is an important ingredient we must have in our Christian journey. Without it, we will be missing a lot of goodies from the Lord.

Dearly beloved, the Bible records in Hebrews 11:1, "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." You must have faith; your faith must be very strong to be able to receive from God. Faith involves trusting God in all circumstances. This trust will enable you to remain loyal to God and His word. It will enable you to rely completely on His promises. Faith is not based on visible circumstances but confidence in spiritual realities. This type of faith makes us to have a right relationship with God.

Faith will enable us to achieve a deeper relationship with God, trust His goodness, and have full confidence in His word. It obeys God's command and guides us so that we come to base our lives on His promises, reject the evil ways of this present world and pursue a heavenly home. Faith also teaches us that prayer can be answered after we have faced or endured great challenges and difficulties. Your prayers need faith to be answered; therefore, have faith in God.

*𝕋𝕙𝕖 𝕄𝔼𝕊𝕊𝔸𝔾𝔼:*
Today, we will continue the discourse on the conditions for getting prayer answered. If you have any unconfessed sin in your life, your prayer will never be answered. Our Fire Scripture says, "If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us" (1 John 1:8). Here John is emphasising sin, not just as a matter of God-defying actions but as a basic principle or trait in human nature. This could be as a reason of those who claim that sin does not exist as a principle or power in human nature, or those who say that their evil actions are not really sin. This erroneous and deceptive belief is still with us today.

Dearly beloved, to have your prayers answered, you must own up to your sin and then go further by confessing it to God. Therefore, we deceive ourselves if we say that we have no sin. The Psalmist said, "If we regard iniquity in our hearts, the Lord will not hear us." So our lives must be free from the thoughts of sin; we must not allow sin to dwell in our hearts and hinder answers to our prayers. Those who take pleasure in things that go against the commands and standards of God's word should not expect Him to answer their prayers. God wants us to separate ourselves from sin and all forms of ungodly behaviour. Only then can we experience the benefits of His special favour and power in our lives. Sin makes us to become persona-non-grata in the presence of God and that alone makes our prayer an abomination to God. Have you been struggling to have answers to your prayers? You need to check yourself, live a life free of sin and God will visit you. Also, if there is sin in your life, confess it and turn away from it.

Though we live in a fallen world where we experience pain and disappointment, there are times when mourning is appropriate. Yet we can easily become absorbed in the emotions of the moment and wallow in sadness. We can become saturated with anger, bitterness, fear or worry. When we think about God's faithfulness over the years, we know that He is willing and able to turn our grief to dancing once again.

David faced many problems and confronted many enemies. He battled opposition and discouragement. He felt dismayed and he knew how it felt when God hid His face. He discovered that God could change his circumstances. He could turn the moments of mourning into times of dancing, lift darkness and replace it with light and change hopelessness into hope.

Everything can change when you commit your situations to God. He can give you victory, no matter the issue you face, no matter what adversaries and obstacles you face, no matter what is going on in the world, no matter how hopeless things may appear to your natural mind. Instead of being worried and afraid, just trust in the Lord. He can turn around any situation.

In Luke 1:37, the Bible affirms that nothing is impossible with our all-powerful God. At the age of 90, He turned Sarah's mourning to dancing by enabling her to conceive and give birth to Isaac (Laughter). In Luke 7:12-16, Jesus encountered the widow of Nain in her mourning state, raised her dead son to life and the entire city moved from mourning to rejoicing.

Beloved, I decree that every situation or challenge that has been giving you pain and sorrow shall expire today, in the name of Jesus. The God that answers by fire shall arise now and turn your sorrow to joy and your mourning to dancing. I usher you into a new season of unending and unalloyed joy, in the name of Jesus.

As you make God's word to dwell richly in you and give it a place of priority in your life this year, your testimonies shall be ear-tingling and mind-blowing, in the name of Jesus.

*The MESSAGE:*
Leadership is simply the practice of positive influence on character, development or behaviour of people without the use of brute force and direct exercise of power. It is not a title but a task because a leader has many constituencies and needs to be many things to many people. Godly leadership entails promoting righteousness and eschewing evil.

A leader must practice what he preaches by being consistent and dependable. People should be able to look up to a leader to drink from his well of knowledge. As a leader, you must have problem-solving and decision-making skills. A leader must be able to manage people and resources and not make a mess of them. He must have a sense of humility by making himself available to his people, eschewing arrogance and pride. A leader must not be easily angered but forbearing. He must not be violent but sensitive to the needs of his people. He must be able to bring out the best in his people and not downplay them. He must refuse to leave people the same way he met them. He must support his team, build his team, mentor coach and truly care for them and not neglect or disdain them. He must be a directional provider and must not lose his balance, no matter the situation. He should show the way by taking the lead role instead of taking the back seat (2 Samuel 11:1).

In addition, a leader must lay out a vision, share his plan and motivate others into achieving the vision instead of misleading or exploiting people (Nehemiah 2:17). Nehemiah fearlessly motivated his people to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. A leader should not think that everything revolves around him. If he does not understand the concept of "service above self", he will not win the trust, confidence and loyalty of those he leads. He must be accountable and not blame others for failures that occur on his watch (1 Samuel 15:21). He should have integrity and skillfulness (Psalms 78:72). He should pay some attention to what people think and say about him to know if his acts and life are causing pain to others or not. Jesus Christ stood at a point in His life to know what people and His disciples were saying about Him. Self-reevaluation is crucial in leadership.

AS YOU PRAY FOR YOUR LEADERS, THE ANOINTING TO BE THE HEAD AND NOT TAIL WILL COME UPON YOU, IN THE NAME OF JESUS.

*The MESSAGE:*
Our Fire Scripture gives us direct instruction on the need to put our leaders on our prayer list. Our leaders need our prayers to function effectively, no matter how anointed or gifted they are. We need to become their caring purpose partners and burden bearers by doing the following for them. (1) Pray for God's mercy upon them. (2) Pray for their salvation and the renewal of their hearts. (3) Pray for wisdom for sound decision and good judgement. (4) We should also pray that the decision they make impact positively on the people.

When we pray for our leaders, we take part in advancing God's kingdom on this earth. Our leaders face spiritual battles and opposition that they may not be aware of. If we fail to pray and allow satan to take hold of the leaders, they can make mistakes, thereby creating hardship and frustration for the people. Satan is trying to deceive and mislead the people by making them not to see the need to pray for their leaders. He knows that if he gets the head, he will get the body.

When we realise how imperfect we ourselves are, we will be humbled to offer deeper intercession for the imperfect men and women who lead us. Leadership is not easy. It can be a difficult and a tiring task. Leaders battle with discouragement and sometimes get stressed, even depressed, and want to quit. These are the dark sides of leadership.

Peter was kept in prison but constant prayer was made by the church on behalf of him (Acts 12:5). God is looking for men and women who will move His hands in the place of prayer to bring His plan to fulfilment concerning the world. You may not like your leader or whoever is in authority, but that is not an excuse not to pray for him. Not praying for your leader means going against the commandment of God. Prayer places our leaders in God's hands. So let us employ this powerful spiritual weapon to establish the will of God on earth. As we do this, the good Lord will answer us with good words.

*PRAYER POINTS:*
