UNDERSTANDING GOD'S COMMANDS FOR A LIFE OF OBEDIENCE AND HOLINESS.

2.YOU SHALL NOT MAKE FOR YOURSELF A CARVED IMAGE

Exodus 20:4–6
You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath
This command follows naturally after the first one. The first commandment says, Do not have another god. The second says, Do not make an image and worship it as God.
What is God teaching His people?
1. We must worship God as He has revealed Himself.
God cannot be reduced to an image, statue, object, or physical representation. He is the living God.
2. We must not replace the Creator with something He created.
People can begin by respecting an object and eventually put their trust in it. That is where idolatry becomes dangerous.
3. An idol cannot save its worshipper.
A man may put his confidence in an idol because he believes it will protect, bless, or deliver him. But an idol has no power to give eternal life.
They have mouths, but they speak not; eyes have they, but they see not. Psalm 115:5
4. The consequences of idolatry are serious.
God said: For I the LORD your God am a jealous God Exodus 20:5
God's jealousy does not mean sinful human jealousy. It means that God will not share the worship that belongs exclusively to Him. What about God's people today? This command is still a warning to everyone who belongs to God. We may not bow before a physical statue, yet we can create modern idols in our hearts.
Anything that takes God's rightful place can become an idol:
•Money •Power •Fame •Career
•Pleasure •Human beings
•Possessions
•Even ministry

Jesus said: You cannot serve God and mammon. Matthew 6:24
The danger:
Idolatry may look harmless at the beginning, but it can eventually take a person's heart away from God. That is why Scripture says:
Little children, keep yourselves from idols. 1 John 5:21
Key lesson: Do not replace the living God with anything created by God.

UNDERSTANDING GOD'S COMMANDS FOR A LIFE OF OBEDIENCE AND HOLINESS. 1.

The principle is not limited to Israel. The command reveals God's heart for His people in every generation. For Christians today, we must also understand it through our relationship with Jesus Christ.

1. YOU SHALL HAVE NO OTHER GODS BEFORE ME

Exodus 20:3
You shall have no other gods before Me.

God gave this command to His covenant people, but the truth reaches everyone who belongs to God. He demands our complete loyalty because He alone is God.
•What does this command teach us?

1. God must have the first place in our lives.
Nothing and nobody should occupy God's position in our hearts.
2. God's people must not serve other gods.
Whether it is an idol, money, power, fame, human beings, pleasure, or anything else that takes God's place, it becomes a dangerous substitute for God.
3. Serving another god has a bad end.
It may appear profitable or attractive for a while, but turning away from the living God ultimately brings spiritual destruction. •They forsook the LORD and served Baal and the Ashtoreths. Judges 2:13
•The result was that Israel experienced God's judgment and trouble (Judges 2:14–15).
4. The command is still relevant to God's people today.

Paul warns Christians:
Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry. 1 Corinthians 10:14
And Jesus said: You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve. Matthew 4:10

The central lesson:
God is not asking to be one of many gods in our lives. He is calling His people to worship Him alone.

We may gain something temporarily by following another god, but whatever takes us away from the true God will eventually lead us in the wrong direction.

God first. God alone. God forever.

IS YOUR HEART RIGHT WITH GOD?

Lessons from Jehu — 2 Kings 10:30–31

Introduction:
My brothers and sisters, Jehu was a man whom God used mightily. He carried out God's assignment and did what was right in God's eyes. But there was still a problem: his heart was not completely devoted to God.
That should make every one of us stop and ask: Is my heart truly right with God?
1. You Can Do Right Things and Still Need to Check Your Heart

Jehu did many things that were right, but God still looked at his heart.
Sometimes we can come to church, pray, preach, give, sing, and serve God, yet our heart may not be completely surrendered to Him. God is interested not only in what we do, but in the condition of our heart.
2. Being Used by God Is Not Enough

God used Jehu, but Jehu did not follow God with all his heart.
My friends, it is good to be used by God, but it is more important to walk with God.
Let us not only ask, Lord, use me. Let us also ask, Lord, change me.
3. God Wants Your Whole Heart

Jehu followed God in some areas, but not completely.
God does not want a part of our heart. He wants our whole heart. Jesus said: Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart. Matthew 22:37 Do not give God your lips while your heart is far from Him.
4. Examine Your Heart

Before we examine other people, let us examine ourselves.
Ask yourself:
•Is my heart right with God?
•Am I obeying God only when it is convenient?
•Have I surrendered everything to Christ?
•Do I genuinely love God?
Psalm 139:23 says: Search me, O God, and know my heart.

Illustration:
A person can wear beautiful clothes and look good outside, but what is inside the heart cannot be hidden from God.
People see the appearance; God sees the heart.

Conclusion:
Jehu teaches us an important lesson: You can be active for God and still need to work on your heart before God.
So today, don't only ask: What am I doing for God?
Ask: Is my heart right with God?
May our lives not only look good

THE POWER OF YOUR THOUGHTS

Text: Proverbs 23:7

Introduction:
Your thoughts influence your attitude, decisions, actions, and direction in life. What you continually allow into your heart can shape the person you become.
1. Your thoughts influence your character
Proverbs 4:23
2. Your thoughts can strengthen or weaken your faith
Numbers 13:30–33
3. Renew your mind with God's Word
Romans 12:2; Philippians 4:8
4. Let the mind of Christ be in you
Philippians 2:5; 1 Corinthians 2:16

Illustration:
Two people can face the same situation but respond differently because they think differently. One sees defeat; the other sees an opportunity to trust God.

Conclusion:
Guard your thoughts. Reject thoughts that oppose God's Word and fill your mind with faith, hope, and the Word of God.

Prayer:
Lord, renew my mind, control my thoughts, and help me to think according to Your Word. Give me the mind of Christ, in Jesus' name. Amen.

As for Me and My House

There will always be many voices calling for our attention, and many directions life may take us. But in the midst of it all, we can make one decision that will shape our lives and our homes: we will choose the Lord.

Joshua said, As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD. Joshua 24:15

This is more than a statement; it is a commitment to trust God, follow His ways, and remain faithful to Him—whatever tomorrow may bring.

When the journey is difficult, keep trusting Him.
When the answer seems delayed, keep believing Him.
When others turn away, keep standing with Him.
And when blessings come, remember to give Him the glory.

May our homes be places where God is honoured, faith is strengthened, love is shared, and His name is lifted high.

Whatever happens around us, may this always remain our decision:
As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

BREAK FORTH — GOD WILL SURPRISE THEM

Genesis 38:29
How hast thou broken forth?
Sometimes God allows a person to break forth suddenly, just as Perez did. May God cause you to break forth from every limitation. May He turn your tears into joy, your delay into advancement, and your struggles into testimonies.

May God so transform your life that those who expected your downfall will be surprised by His goodness in your life.

What they never expected to see, God will make them see.
What they thought was impossible, God will make possible.
What they thought was your end, God will turn into a new beginning.

Declaration:
Father, let my life become a testimony of Your goodness. Cause me to break forth, and surprise my enemies with Your mighty works in my life. Let my testimony bring glory to Your name, in Jesus name. Amen.

When God Is Silent: Be Faithful

There are seasons when you pray, you wait, and nothing seems to change. You may wonder, “God, where are You?” But remember Job.
Job lost his possessions, his children, his health, and even the comfort of those around him. Yet, in the middle of his darkest season, he held on to God. He did not allow his pain to destroy his faith.
Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him. Job 13:15

Job did not understand what God was doing, but God was still working. His silence was not abandonment. His delay was not denial. His story was not over.
And neither is yours. If you are passing through a difficult season, don't give up. If the answer has not come, keep trusting. If the door has not opened, keep believing. If you cannot see what God is doing, keep walking with Him.

The God who sustained Job in his darkest hour is still able to turn your situation around.

Your loss is not your last chapter.
Your tears are not the end of your story.
Your waiting is not wasted.
God can restore what you thought was gone forever.
Stay faithful. The God who kept you this far will not abandon you.

Say this:
I will not give up because God seems silent.
I will remain faithful even when I cannot understand.
My situation will change, my strength will be renewed, and my story will end in victory.
Like Job, I will trust God through the storm.
I believe that my latter days can be greater than my former days.
God has not finished with me yet! In Jesus name, Amen.
