TOPIC: PUTTING THE DEVIL WHERE HE BELONGS PART I

The devil is our greatest enemy but Christ has conquered him and we share in this victory of Christ over the devil. The story of the fall of Lucifer from his exalted position of honour and splendour can be seen in Eze 28:11-19, Ish 14:12-18. He is now a fallen creature, we must therefore know how to put him where He belongs which is under our feet. Quickly, let's check some of his attributes :-

1. Satan is the wicked one. Matt13:19

2. He is called the Devil. Rev 12:10, Matt 13:39

3. He is the accuser of the brethren. Rev 12:10

4. The devil is your adversary. 1Pet 5:8

5. He is the dragon, satan and old serpent.

6. He is a murderer and father of lies. Jn 8:44

7.He is the tempter. Matt 4:3

8. He is the prince of this world. Jn 14:30

9. The prince of the power of the air. The spirit of the children of disobedience Eph 2:2. He determines trends and the way of life of a group of people in a location or place. For exampe prostitution or nudity can be prevalent in a place, these is because the devil is at work.

10.He is the corrupter of mind. 2 Cor 11:3

11.He is an oppressor. Act 10:38. Whenever you see oppression, know that the devil is at work.

12. He is D- evil that is, the evil. Anytime we see evil, we must know that it is the devil behind it.

The bible says in 2 Cor 2:11, " Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices". The ignorance of the believer is the devil's advantage. The devil comes in various forms. Therefore, we must be able to identify him when we see him in various forms as highlighted above. He can also come through people. Jesus was able to identify that it was Satan that spoke through Peter in Matt 16:21-22. Jesus rebuked the devil in verse 23,
" But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou at an offense unto me: for thou savorest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men".

Halleluyah! Jesus knew it was the devil and He put him where He belongs. Remember He came as the tempter in Matt 4, tempting Jesus to bow to him and possess all instead of doing the will of the father by dying on the cross.

We must know:-

📌That every believer has power and authority over the devil. LK 9:1
"Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases"
So every believers not just Pastors have power over Satan. Hallelujah!

📌Col 2:15 says, "And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it"
So Jesus spoiled principalities by binding them. How did i know? Mk 3:27
"No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strong man; and then he will spoil his house"

I'm happy to announce to you that the devil is bound. Don't be scared of his rantings, It is just like the barking of a chained dog. He is powerless and can do nothing to you. Take what belongs to you and put him where He belongs.

Hallelujah!

TOPIC: FUNDAMENTAL TRUTH ABOUT ADVERSITY PART II

Last week we established the truth that adversity is the work of devil and not God. Just like we saw in the life of Job that every bad thing that happened to Job was perpetrated by the devil and not God but God knew about it and allowed it so He can boast about him (Job Chapts 1&2). It is important to know that sometimes God allows adversity in our lives for many reasons and purposes. Today we are going to be looking into why God allow adversity.

WHY DOES GOD ALLOW ADVERSITY?

A To humble people. Deu 8:1-3

All the commandments which I command thee this day shall ye observe to do, that ye may live, and multiply, and go in and possess the land which the LORD sware unto your fathers.

2And thou shalt remember all the way which the LORD thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, TO HUMBLE THEE .......

God led the children of Isreal in the wilderness for 40 years to humble them, that is to take away pride from them. Pride won't make us useful vessels in God's hand because He resist the proud but gives grace to the humble (Jas 4:6). So God uses adversity to take away pride from our lives.

B. To prove us. Deu 8:2

And thou shalt remember all the way which the LORD thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to PROVE THEE.
God proved or confirmed Job through the adversity He allowed him to go through. Let us also check Psalm 66:10-13
For thou, O God, hast proved us: thou hast tried us, as silver is tried.
11 Thou broughtest us into the net; thou laidst affliction upon our loins.
12 Thou hast caused men to ride over our heads; we went through fire and through water: but thou broughtest us out into a wealthy place.

Hallelujah! After God proves us, He brings us into a wealthy place. Job came into a wealthy place after the adversity He went through and He received double for everything he had lost.

C. To know what is in your heart, whether you will keep his commandment or not. Deu 8:2
"And thou shalt remember all the way which the LORD thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, TO KNOW WHAT WAS IN THINE HEART, WHETHER THOU WOULDEST KEEP HIS COMMANDMENT, OR NO"

Adversity reveals our heart, whether we will obey God or not. When things are not rosy, can we still love and trust God? God uses adversity to know the state of our hearts.
See also Lk 2:35.

D. To know him Deu 8:3

" And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live"

Sometimes God withhold bread so that you can know that man doesn't live by food alone but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.

E. To do us good.

F. So we can believe. JN 11:1-15

God allowed the death of Lazarus so that many can believe on his name when he raise him from the dead. Mary and Martha knew Jesus as the healer but not as the resurrection and life. God allows some things to happen to us so that when He intervenes, we will believe in him more.

G. So that you can give life to people. 2 Cor 1:5-9

It is with the consolation or comfort we receive from God that we can comfort others with. Anyone who has gone through adversity can give hope to those in it thereby making them not to lose hope or trust in God.

TOPIC: FUNDAMENTAL TRUTH ABOUT ADVERSITY

'Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble" Job 14:1

Adversity is from the word "adverse" which means opposite or contrary. It means things working in an opposing direction.

Have things been going in the opposite direction for you? Are you disturbed about why your life is full of troubles, failures and dashed hopes? Why is it that you planned to be through with university by age 21, but only to discover that at 22, you are still writing JAMB? Or you planned to be through with child birth by 29 but by 30 you are still single. Then you ask yourself, "Why is my life like this?","Why is God allowing all this to happen to me?".

The reason we have weak Christianity in our days is because this topic is not been emphasis again in our days. We now have Christians who can't endure hardship and when they marry for a year and a child is not forthcoming, they give up on God and quickly run to an herbalist for help.

Follow me carefully as we look into God's word to see why God allows or permits adversity and the several reasons for adversity.

It also important to sound a note of warning that half truth is no truth at all. Ensure you follow this series to the end that is, read every of our weekly excerpts till we conclude this topic so you can be well balanced in the present truth.

Jesus speaking in the book of John 16:33 said something very striking.

"These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world"

Jesus already told us that this world is full of tribulation but we should be of Good cheer because victory is ours. And guess what, our victory is in faith

"For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith" 1 Jn 5:4

THINGS TO NOTE ABOUT ADVERSITY

1. The devil is the originator of adversity.

"Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man" James 1:14

The devil has come to steal, kill and destroy Jn10:10. But Jesus came to give life. The devil is the cause of adversity, troubles and problem. It was the devil that took all Job had not God. Though God can permit adversity like in the life of Job but he is never the originator.
So when you see contrary situations in your life, arise and rebuke the devil. Don't ever think God is the one behind your problems or predicament. God is good all the time and He will never do evil.

"But while men slept, HIS ENEMY came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way" Matt 14:25, emphasis mine

The devil is the planter of tares in people's lifes and destiny. And this happens while men slept. It is saddening that some people's prayerlessness has brought attacks and evil their way.

2. Adversity comes when we rebel against the word of God. Ps 107:10-20

" Such as sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, being bound in affliction and iron; Because they rebelled against the words of God, and contemned the counsel of the most High: Therefore he brought down their heart with labour; they fell down, and there was none to help" Ps 107:10-12.
The Lord brought this people to hard labour because they rebelled against him. Beware of rebelling against God so the devil won't bring adversity your way. Fear God and keep his word. Sin gives the devil license or legal right to afflict us.

Some people have been afflicted because of unforgiveness. The bible admonishes us to forgive our brother when they hurt us. There is this story about a man who determined in his heart never to forgive his son-in-law for maltreating his only daughter. This man fell very ill so much that the doctors are confused because the root of the sickness can't be traced. He sought the Lord and He was instructed to forgive his son-in-law and let go. He did and he was healed. Brethren, unforgiveness is like drinking poison and expecting someone else to die. If there is anyone you have determined not to forgive because of the gravity of what they did, please forgive them and let it go, ask God to help you forgive them. In it lies your deliverance.

"Then they cried unto the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them out of their distresses. He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and brake their bands in sunder" Ps 107:13-14.

The way out of adversity caused by rebelling against God's word is to ask God for mercy just like was done in the above verses. Ask God for mercy and you'll be out of that adversity.

3. Adversity is the channel to go through to get to our destination. Act 14:21-22

"And when they had preached the gospel to that city, and had taught many, they returned again to Lystra, and to Iconium, and Antioch, Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God"

it is through tribulation we enter the kingdom of God. Adversity is the channel.

.......To be continued next week. GOD BLESS YOU RICHLY.

TOPIC: TWO KINDS OF BELIEVERS

Welcome on board to year 2022, our year of renewal of stength. Ish 40:31 is our anchor. God who never grows weary has promised to renew our strength even as we wait upon him throughout the year 2022. He said we will be flying all through this year. Hallelujah! Glory to God in the highest!
Briefly, we are going to be looking into a topic today titled two kinds of believers. Firstly, there are believers who are in Christ but Christ is not in them.
Are you wondering if this is possible or not? Please follow me carefully. Let's check Jn 14:20
"At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you".
This verse is telling us that it is one thing for a believer to be in Christ and another thing for Christ to be in you. If it were the same, then Jesus won't say it separately. Have you seen anyone who went to school but school never passed through him/her. I mean those whose way of life, dressing and composure can't be traced to literacy or ever going through school. So likewise, there are christians who believe in Christ but are not revealing or reflecting Christ. Let's check some basic highlight of this category of believers.

A. They stay at the new creation realities level and never move up. Eph 1:3.They always confess the blessings of Christ in heaven and not their own responsibility on earth. They are blessing driven and not responsibility driven. Rom 8:1 made us understand that for us not to stay in condemnation, there is a responsibility of walking in the spirit and not in the flesh.

B. They are those who stay at the basics of salvation not knowing salvation is a journey that will only end till we see Christ in Glory, they do not work out their salvation with fear and trembling. Phil 2:12-13. The beginning of salvation we received was at new birth, when we confessed with our mouth the lordship of Jesus and believe in our heart. Rom10:9. The progressive salvation is worked out by us. Our spirit becomes new at new birth( II Cor 5:17), our soul then needs transformation, so progressive salvation involves bringing Christ to our soul. This category of believers fail to do this. For example, someone who smokes before He got saved but never allowed christ to work on that aspect of his life.

C. They are those who don't stay consistently under the ministration of the word. Matt 12:43-45. This is the reason why deliverance section is being conducted everyweek in some churches. They lack the word of God.

D.They are those who use the name of Jesus and don't declare his name.Matt 7:22-23. To use his name means you are using his name for your personal gain but when you declare his name it is to give him glory and not yourself.

The second category of believers are those who are in Christ and Christ is in them. They go beyond where the first category stopped. Other highlights are as follows:-

A. They make Christ known and make him popular Jn 17:23. They don't just accepted Christ, they reflect Him in all their endeavors

B. They are those who Christ in them is their hope of glory Col1:27. When things are tough, they don't open their mouth to murmur against God, because Christ in them gives them a hope for better future.

C. They live for Christ and not for their self or their pleasure. Gal 2:20. They are yoked with Christ, so they don't do things for their pleasure, it is what Christ is doing that they will do.

Trust you are Blessed.
