✝️: *Topic: THE KING'S STAFF OF OFFICE*

✝️📖:Text: 1 Kings 2:1-9
When the time drew near for David to die, he gave a charge to Solomon his son.

2 “I am about to go the way of all the earth,” he said. “So be strong, act like a man, 3 and observe what the Lord your God requires: Walk in obedience to him, and keep his decrees and commands, his laws and regulations, as written in the Law of Moses. Do this so that you may prosper in all you do and wherever you go 4 and that the Lord may keep his promise to me: ‘If your descendants watch how they live, and if they walk faithfully before me with all their heart and soul, you will never fail to have a successor on the throne of Israel.’

5 “Now you yourself know what Joab son of Zeruiah did to me—what he did to the two commanders of Israel’s armies, Abner son of Ner and Amasa son of Jether. He killed them, shedding their blood in peacetime as if in battle, and with that blood he stained the belt around his waist and the sandals on his feet. 6 Deal with him according to your wisdom, but do not let his gray head go down to the grave in peace.

7 “But show kindness to the sons of Barzillai of Gilead and let them be among those who eat at your table. They stood by me when I fled from your brother Absalom.

8 “And remember, you have with you Shimei son of Gera, the Benjamite from Bahurim, who called down bitter curses on me the day I went to Mahanaim. When he came down to meet me at the Jordan, I swore to him by the Lord: ‘I will not put you to death by the sword.’ 9 But now, do not consider him innocent. You are a man of wisdom; you will know what to do to him. Bring his gray head down to the grave in blood.”

✝️📝Study :- The concern David had for the kingdom of Israel was remarkable; so much that even in the face of death, he did not lose focus of the Lord's charge to him, concerning the kingdom and her governance. This same charge, like a 'staff of office', was what he transmitted to Solomon just before his passing. He passed it down to his son obviously because it worked for him. David knew that no amount of inheritance would be enough if Solomon missed this charge. He began by saying "be strong, therefore, and prove yourself a man." In verse 3, he advised him to keep the charge of the Lord and walk in His ways, so he could prosper. The success of Solomon would be dependent on his keeping the charge. All the strategies for governance and administration were founded on this.

Like David, we all must strive to hand over 'divine charges' to those coming after us, especially, our children. They must get to see that life will be meaningless and possessions useless without upholding the statutes of the Lord in their endeavours. It is not enough to write a will; we must pass on the Commandment of the Lord.

✝️: Prayer: Lord, in the success story of life, help me to know the place of your commandments and give me grace to uphold them.

*WORD FOR TODAY*

And as Christ's soldier, do not let yourself become tied up in the affairs of this life, for then you cannot satisfy the one who has enlisted you in his army.

LESSON
A soldier is one who has signed up or have been conscripted to defend, fight, and border-guard the nation. He is set to obey commands and work according to rules. He loses himself for the course he has signed up for.

The discipline of a soldier differentiates him from a civilian because the rigours in his training makes him not only tough but very agile to act under any circumstance. He is physically fit and mentally alert all the time.

As a soldier of Christ, there are spiritual disciplines you must cultivate to fit into God's army. The army has one Commander and the rules are well defined. When you read through the pages of the scripture, you will understand how God's army operates.

And one of the basic rules is that you must not be entangled with the affairs of this life. What does it mean to be entangled? It simply means to be intertwined or mix up with worldliness.

Unfortunately, the world had crept into the church so much that it's almost impossible to separate the two. But God's foundation principles cannot be undermined or mistaken for a mere alternative. When you see godliness in every sense of it, you will know.

That is why Paul says that we should not be entangled with the affairs of this world so that our lives can shine forth true godly principles in order to satisfy the One who has enlisted us in His army. We must be in alignment with God and disaligned with the world.

*Food For Thought*
A true soldier of Christ lives circumspectly!

✝️📖:Text: Luke 11:14-28
14 Jesus was driving out a demon that was mute. When the demon left, the man who had been mute spoke, and the crowd was amazed. 15 But some of them said, “By Beelzebul, the prince of demons, he is driving out demons.” 16 Others tested him by asking for a sign from heaven.

17 Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them: “Any kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and a house divided against itself will fall. 18 If Satan is divided against himself, how can his kingdom stand? I say this because you claim that I drive out demons by Beelzebul. 19 Now if I drive out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your followers drive them out? So then, they will be your judges. 20 But if I drive out demons by the finger of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.

21 “When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own house, his possessions are safe. 22 But when someone stronger attacks and overpowers him, he takes away the armor in which the man trusted and divides up his plunder.

23 “Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.

24 “When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ 25 When it arrives, it finds the house swept clean and put in order. 26 Then it goes and takes seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that person is worse than the first.”

27 As Jesus was saying these things, a woman in the crowd called out, “Blessed is the mother who gave you birth and nursed you.”

28 He replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.”

✝️📝Study :- There is this saying that “United we stand but divided we fall." Jesus finished casting out the dumb spirit and some persons accused him of casting out the demon by the power of Beelzebub, the chief of the demons. Jesus made it known that you cannot cast out demons by the power of Satan because a house divided against itself cannot stand. He told his accusers that what he had done was done by the power of God.

How many times have we doubted the manifestation of God and attributed it to the devil? How often have we been in opposition with each other? Can two walk together, except they be agreed? When we fight and backbite each other, we can only achieve very little as Christians. We will not be able to enforce the will of God on earth and His presence will not be with us. Beware! Disunity is the devil's weapon to weaken the unity of the church.

✝️: Prayer: Dear Lord, unite us again so that through your power, we will destroy the works of darkness and advance the kingdom of God

*WORD FOR TODAY*

Endure suffering along with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 2Timothy.2:3.

LESSON
We are already close to the time when the Antichrist will be revealed, and from Jesus's teaching, we know that it's not going to be an easy time for the believers.

The Christian journey has overtime been characterised by sufferings. The symbol of the Christian faith is the cross and that speaks volumes on its own. The cross signifies suffering and death. It is not bread and butter.

When Jesus Christ was winding up His ministry, about to face crucifixion, He spent quality time to tell His disciples what would happen to Him and to His followers both then and now.

In summary, He said that a 'student is not greater than his teacher...' that statement is a food for thought. If the world hated Him so badly that they crucified Him regardless of His innocence, we'll be deceiving ourselves to think that the world would love us to spare us from their wicked schemes.

Suffering for Christ is not beans. It is very painful and lonely most times. The world is very wicked and unfortunately, those of your household may be the primary contributors to your suffering.

All the same, let this mind be in you that you are a soldier in the Lord's army. As a soldier, you have signed your death warrant. Suffering for Christ is part of the warrants you signed up for at the point of salvation. You only need to ask God for grace to come out strong after all is said and done.

*Food For Thought*
Suffering for Christ is also a privilege!

*WORD FOR TODAY*

You have heard me teach many things that have been confirmed by many reliable witnesses. Teach these great truths to trustworthy people who are able to pass them on to others. 2Timothy.2:2.

LESSON
The result of your mentorship should be traceable to your mentee's mentees. That is to say that the second and third generation of your mentees should replicate your teaching.

In essence, your direct mentees have passed down your message to them. A successful mentor or discipler is one whose impact can be felt beyond his immediate disciples. If all your messages ended with your current disciples, it shows that there is no succession plan.

Apostle Paul has spent years teaching Timothy and other believers, now he instructs him to transfer this knowledge to noble men around him because no knowledge should end with one person. If Timothy had kept this knowledge of the Kingdom with him, maybe we would not have this book of Timothy to read. He would have kept it as a personal letter, but he didn't.

Some people go to church and hear the message of the Kingdom of God but can't share the same with an unbeliever. They excuse themselves from soul winning because they have not become spiritual conduits to transmit the message they have been receiving.

Well, God may likely hold you accountable for certain messages that aren't meant just for you, most especially the message of salvation. If you heard it and got saved, you can retell the same message to others and they'll be saved. Stop your excuses and start discipling souls.

*Food For Thought*
Be a Word transmitter not a pool!

✝️: Topic: THE POWER OF PERSISTENCE PRAYER

✝️📖:Text: Luke 11:1-13
One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.”

2 He said to them, “When you pray, say:

“‘Father,[a]
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come.[b]
3 Give us each day our daily bread.
4 Forgive us our sins,
for we also forgive everyone who sins against us.[c]
And lead us not into temptation.[d]’”

5 Then Jesus said to them, “Suppose you have a friend, and you go to him at midnight and say, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread; 6 a friend of mine on a journey has come to me, and I have no food to offer him.’ 7 And suppose the one inside answers, ‘Don’t bother me. The door is already locked, and my children and I are in bed. I can’t get up and give you anything.’ 8 I tell you, even though he will not get up and give you the bread because of friendship, yet because of your shameless audacity[e] he will surely get up and give you as much as you need.

9 “So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

11 “Which of you fathers, if your son asks for[f] a fish, will give him a snake instead? 12 Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? 13 If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”

✝️📝Study :- Prayer, as a force that enforces results, has several dimensions. It is a tool for transformation, legislation, warfare and making requests. For it to serve as a means of relating and communicating with God (Luke 18:1), faith is vital (Mark 12:24). Aware of the fact that a prayer-less Christian is a powerless Christian, the disciples saw the need to request that Christ teach them to pray. James 5:16b says that the effectual fervent prayer of the righteous avails much.

To achieve result in prayer, it must capture the supremacy of God (v. 2a), the enforcement of God's will on earth (v. 2b), confession of our weaknesses (v. 4), supplication (v. 3) and warfare (v. 4b). In our text, Jesus told the story of a man in need and who came to his friend's house at midnight. Though the man's friend never wanted to be troubled, claiming that the door was shut and his children were already in bed and he could not rise from bed, but because of their relationship and his friend's persistence, he attended to him. So, as God's children, we must bring our request to Him in faith and He will answer us.

✝️: Prayer: Dear Lord, please answer me as I pray to you in faith and let my joy be full in you.

✝️: Topic: GUILTY CONSCIENCE

✝️📖:Text: 1 Kings 1:44-53
41 Adonijah and all the guests who were with him heard it as they were finishing their feast. On hearing the sound of the trumpet, Joab asked, “What’s the meaning of all the noise in the city?”

42 Even as he was speaking, Jonathan son of Abiathar the priest arrived. Adonijah said, “Come in. A worthy man like you must be bringing good news.”

43 “Not at all!” Jonathan answered. “Our lord King David has made Solomon king. 44 The king has sent with him Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, Benaiah son of Jehoiada, the Kerethites and the Pelethites, and they have put him on the king’s mule, 45 and Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet have anointed him king at Gihon. From there they have gone up cheering, and the city resounds with it. That’s the noise you hear. 46 Moreover, Solomon has taken his seat on the royal throne. 47 Also, the royal officials have come to congratulate our lord King David, saying, ‘May your God make Solomon’s name more famous than yours and his throne greater than yours!’ And the king bowed in worship on his bed 48 and said, ‘Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, who has allowed my eyes to see a successor on my throne today.’”

49 At this, all Adonijah’s guests rose in alarm and dispersed. 50 But Adonijah, in fear of Solomon, went and took hold of the horns of the altar. 51 Then Solomon was told, “Adonijah is afraid of King Solomon and is clinging to the horns of the altar. He says, ‘Let King Solomon swear to me today that he will not put his servant to death with the sword.’”

52 Solomon replied, “If he shows himself to be worthy, not a hair of his head will fall to the ground; but if evil is found in him, he will die.” 53 Then King Solomon sent men, and they brought him down from the altar. And Adonijah came and bowed down to King Solomon, and Solomon said, “Go to your home.”

✝️📝Study :- Finally, Solomon was now the king. The message was relayed to Adonijah by Jonathan, the son of Abiathar, the Priest. Adonijah realised immediately that the game was up. He became afraid and rushed to the place of worship and grabbed the horns of the altar.

Guilty conscience! He quickly sent a message to King Solomon to assure him he would not be executed. Solomon gave him that assurance and he was permitted to go home.
When we do things we are not supposed to do or take wrong actions, our conscience must trouble us. To avoid that guilty conscience, ask God for the grace to live a life of holiness and righteousness, study the word of God, pray always and depend on the guidance of the Holy Spirit. The peace of God which passes all understanding will keep your hearts and mind through Christ Jesus (Phil. 4:7).

✝️: .Prayer: "Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting" (Psalm 139:23-24).

*WORD FOR TODAY*

Timothy, my dear son, be strong with the special favor God gives you in Christ Jesus. 2Timothy.2:1.

LESSON
A spiritual authority vis-a-vis spiritual father or mother is a great blessing you shouldn't joke with. Their prayers and words of encouragement will keep you going in times of distress, frustration, and despair.

Not everyone will stand by you in your trying times. Friends and loved ones will sometimes be out of reach but a word of blessing from your spiritual authority could be all that you need to survive that season.

Paul's first admonition to Timothy empowered him to be strong. Strength isn't just about physical energy but more to it is the internal fortitude to keep on going when all else says to stop. One can be physically strong but internally weak and drained.

When you burn out, your inner strength gets drained. That's why you need encouragement to be refilled and resuscitated. Apostle Paul having worked as a missionary in strange lands understood the place of burn out in the mission field where everyone demands from you and careless about your well-being.

Timothy needed this special grace that would keep him going regardless of the pressures and persecutions both from within and without. We also have access to this same grace from our Lord Jesus Christ and our strength will be renewed like the Eagles.

*Food For Thought*
May the grace of God keep you strong as you labour in His vineyard in Jesus name amen!
