*A Return to the Father’s Love*
*Luke 15:17-20*
17 But when he came to himself, he said, 'How many of my father's hired servants have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! 18 I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, "Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you, 19 and I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired servants." 20 And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him. (NKJV)

The prodigal son soon realized that wealth disappears in an instant for it develops wings and flies away like the eagle (Prov 23:5). He wasted all the resources on riotous living (vs 13-14). He desperately needed food, even pig’s food to survive, but had none. Like the prodigal son, there are many today who are stranded in life and can barely eke out a living because of wrong choices they have made. God will restore you today if you are one of such.
A turning point came for the prodigal son when he remembered his father’s house. He took a firm decision to go back to his father, confess his sins, and seek the father’s forgiveness. He then set out and returned to his father (true repentance). The father received him back in love.
God our Father is waiting with open arms to receive in love, as many as would come to their senses and come back to Him acknowledging, confessing, and turning away from their sins.
*Memory Verse*: “All that the Father gives me shall come to me; and the one who comes to me I will by no means cast out” (John 6:37).
*Action Point*: I take responsibility for every wrong choice I have made. I also take the responsibility to make amends and return to the love of God
*Prayer Point*: O Lord, I repent of every wrong choice I have made. I ask for your forgiveness and restoration to your love. Amen.

*The garment of humility*
*1 Peter 5: 5-6*
5 Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for "God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble." 6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time (NKJV)

One of the godly virtues growing in every believer born of God is humility. Humility is the quality of not thinking that you are better than other people. Everything you are and have is all from God, you have nothing to boast of except what the Lord has done in you, through you and for you; walking with this understanding opens you up to walk in humility. Humility is when you deny yourself your personal rights and resources as not to take advantage over others. It is living simple despite all you are and have above others.
Until you pull off the garment of self or the flesh, you cannot cloth yourself with the garment of humility. It takes a broken heart and self to exhibit humility. You must bring your stony heart and self to the cross of Christ to be dealt with for humility to show in your life. Until you see yourself as nothing, and accept God as the only one that has worked out all things in your life, that is when true humility begins to show forth in you. There is nothing you are or own that is not given from heaven. John 3:27 “A man cannot receive anything unless it has been given to him from heaven”. You are only who you are by the grace of God. All you are and have are just a privilege from God.
As long as you continue to seek and acknowledge God’s glory in all things, you will remain humble. But first, you must surrender your status, wealth, accomplishment, experience and other things you glory in about yourself to Christ.
*Memory verse*: “Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time. 1Peter 5: 6

WHEN GOD IS MY HELPER (2)

“So, Adam gave names to all cattle, to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper comparable to him. And the LORD God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him” (Genesis 2:20, 18, NKJV).

The woman represents the ultimate display of God's creative prowess. She is the last stroke of the divine artist’s brush that confers perfection on creation. In the woman, God conjoins toughness and tenderness to provide for humanity a balance necessary for progress. Her creation was against the backdrop of God’s self-critique of His work when He observed, “It is not good that man should be alone.” Man was alone but not lonely. The physical absence of his female companion at that time was not an oversight on the side of God. It all had to do with God’s timing and wisdom. He made the woman just when it was the right time to do so. This does not make her inferior to the man in any way. The question we need to give attention to now is: What did God set out to achieve in making the woman? In God’s own words – “I will make him a helper comparable to him.” God did not make a competitor, a subordinate, or a slave for the man, but “a helper comparable to him.” He did not intend her to be subordinate to her male counterpart in any way; but one who is comparable to him. The word “comparable” connotes the idea of equality, similarity, and complementarity between the two. Adam confirms God’s idea because on sighting the woman, he exclaimed, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh …” Genesis 2:23). She was indeed a helper comparable to him.

God made the woman to be a helper, but not in the sense of an assistance, or of an underling, or of a minion. He made the woman to be an ezer. EZER is the Hebrew word of helper as used by God in Genesis 2:18. The word ezer occurs a total of twenty-one times in the Old Testament. On two occasions it refers to Eve (Genesis 2:18 & 20). On three occasions it refers to the powerful nations Israel ran to for help in time of trouble (2 chronicles 28:16, Isaiah 31:1). In all the other sixteen instances, ezer refers to God as our help (Psalm 33:20, Psalm 70:5, Psalm 115:9-11, Psalm 121:1-2, Deuteronomy 33:29). According to Philip Payne, "The noun, [ezer] throughout the Old Testament does not suggest 'helper' as in 'servant,' but helper as in saviour, rescuer, or protector as in 'God is our help.' In no other occurrence in the Old Testament does this refer to an inferior, but always to a superior or an equal...'help' expresses that the woman is a help/strength who rescues or saves man." Since God is not subordinate to his creatures, any idea that an ezer-helper is inferior is untenable. God made the woman as helper in the same way He is our Helper. The one helping does so from a position of expertise and strength. To this order of helpers belong the woman!

The bible used a metaphor of strength and dependable support to describe women when it says, “That our sons may be as plants grown up in their youth; that our daughters may be as pillars, sculptured in palace style” (Psalms 144:12). While the sons are likened to plants, the daughters are described as pillars. Pillars are symbols of strength and support. This is consistent with the role of women as helper. They are like pillars on which the superstructure of families and in fact the entire human society stands. Notice that as the pillars are not rough but carefully sculptured, so women are usually raised to serve as the standard-bearers of civilization and models of beauty. You don’t raise daughters anyhow. They are raised intentionally to be cultured and civil in their manners, poise, and presence. In all their roles as wives, mothers, daughters, sisters, and friends, the woman’s presence and contributions are invaluable. They bring beauty to our lives and meaning to our struggles. A world without women will be a harsh and uninhabitable world devoid of love, laughter, and colour.

For the woman to fulfil this function creditably, she must first have and experience God as her help. To this end God extends this bold and firm promise to them and all of us, “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand. For I, the LORD your God, will hold your right hand, saying to you, ‘Fear not, I will help you.’(Isaiah 41:10,13 NKJV). Women are burdened with so many things bothering mainly on how to provide adequate care for their families. There are constant demands on them to render one service or the other to their husband, children, relatives, or friends. All these are besides the demand on them from their churches and so many other social activities they are involved with. Meeting these demands keep them on their toes almost all the time. It would certainly require help from God for one to attend to all these demands and remain sane. Therefore, we must pray for our women today and always that God will bless them, keep them, and always prosper them in all the good things they do for us. God will show them favour in every way and bless them with good health so they will continue to serve with joy in all the different areas we need them. God will make them ever resourceful in providing solutions to the endless demands of their families and ever perfect everything that concerns them in Jesus’ name.

When revival came in the 70s, the most well known being the Scripture Union

Churches, fellowships and Christian meetings broke out everywhere; tens of thousands were saved and filled with the Holy Spirit.

The major activities in church were praise, prayer and Bible study.

Worship, prayer and Bible study. Every Christian was grounded in scriptures and baptised in prayer.

As in, GROUNDED.

There were not many deliverance ministries then because, the average believer was free and totally delivered.

There were not many prophets and prophetic ministries in these circles because the average believer heard God.

There were not many evangelism ministries then because the average believer was a soul winner preaching Jesus everywhere

Like in Acts of the Apostles, there were not many mighty choirs then because the whole fellowship or church would sing with grace in their hearts and heaven in their eyes

There were not many 'word churches' then because every Christian was a student of the Bible. What was common was Bible study - brethren comparing spiritual things with spiritual and learning from each other.

The average believer did not know the names of many men of God, but they knew what the word said about everything that mattered.

There were not many prosperity preachers then because the average believer was filled with heaven, hardworking, honest, and content.

There were not many mighty buildings then, but every Christian home was Mount Zion the city of the living God.

There were not many conferences and seminars then, but there was holiness, purity, brotherly love, diligence, strong families with well brought up children, and the fear of the Lord.

I don't know how to say this, but then the standard of the Christian faith was not one church or one meeting or one conference.

The standard of the Christian faith was The Christian!

People on the outside did not say oh "This church" or "That church". Nope. What they said was

"This one is SU!"

The church was not a hospital for sinners
It was a gathering, a school, an army of saints
And each saint was a doctor of sinners

They gathered to fuel up their lamps
And dispersed to shine in this world

The kingdom of God was within men.

Christ in the Christian was the hope of glory!

We need the prophets and the prophetic
We need prosperity and abundance
We need meeting places and edifices
We need conferences and seminars
We even need healing and deliverance ministries

But above all, we need to redefine what it means to be a child of God in Christ Jesus
We need to remember the riches of salvation
We need to return to the hope of our calling
We need to restore the riches of the new life
We need to resound the power of Christ in the believer
We need to remember that these signs shall follow, not the bishop, not the apostle, not the general; but those who believe.

We need to make the high aim of every apostle and every teacher, every pastor and every prophet - THE PERFECTING OF THE SAINTS, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ!

Brethren, THAT is revival!

Pastor Ebele Uzo peters.

WHEN GOD IS MY HELPER (1)

“Behold, God is my helper; the Lord is with those who uphold my life” (Psalms 54:4, NKJV).

One of the most devastating and harrowing experience one encounters in life is that of being betrayed by someone you expected to protect you. That was the experience of David among the Ziphites while he was running from Saul. The Ziphites had reported to Saul that David was hiding in their forest and promised to assist in capturing him. This was not a comfortable development for David and his men; consequently, they sought for a way of escape to save their lives from Saul’s blood thirsty sword, “for Saul and his men were encircling David and his men to take them” (1 Samuel 23:26). It was clear to David and his men that they were doomed unless God intervened miraculously to save them. He then fired the red-hot prayer to God, “Save, me O God, by thy name …For strangers are risen up against me and oppressors seek after my soul…” (Psalm 54:1-3). No sooner had he prayed than “a messenger came to Saul, saying, “Hurry and come, for the Philistines have invaded the land!” Therefore, Saul returned from pursuing David, and went against the Philistines; so, they called that place the Rock of Escape” (1 Samuel 23:27-28). With his confidence bursting at the seams, David, exclaimed in the language of faith and triumph of trust, “Behold, God is my helper; the Lord is with those who uphold my life.” God has equally prepared a rock of escape for you such that your enemies will never find you.

When God is your helper, you need not fear the most vicious of foes because the Almighty is your defence. Nobody can strengthen what He has bent, and no one can bend what He has straightened. In every occasion of conflict, whoever God sides with is sure to win. He is completely committed to His elects and does everything necessary to protect them from their enemies. David expressed great confidence in God’s capacity to protect him and felt so proud of having God on his side that He pointed his enemies to Him and exclaimed “Behold, God is my helper!” God was not one of his helpers! He was his only helper! His upholder, his defender, his protector. David’s confidence in God was complete and unflinching. Right from his childhood days as a shepherd boy, he had known the help of God in most difficult times and those experiences buoyed up his faith in later life. He testified before king Saul: “Your servant used to keep his father’s sheep, and when a lion or a bear came and took a lamb out of the flock, I went out after it and struck it, and delivered the lamb from its mouth; and when it arose against me, I caught it by its beard, and struck and killed it. Your servant has killed both lion and bear; and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, seeing he has defied the armies of the living God” (1 Samuel 17:34-36). In a nutshell, David’s argument was simply this, the God who helped me overcome the lion and the bear and recover the lambs they preyed upon, will help me silence the mouthy giant from Gath and restore the dignity of the people of God. And He did!

Jesus did not leave us ignorant of the challenges we will face in life in the world. He warned, “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). The world offers tribulation, which is a state of great trouble and suffering, but Jesus has a totally different plan for the believer. He did not assure us that He had overcome the world, but also promised us a divine helper to stand by us and see us through the difficult times as they come. However, the world turns out, the believer will come out a winner. Nobody loses in Christ. Reposing faith in Him makes one an overcomer. More than that, resting on the Christ and appropriating the eternal benefits of His finished work, makes one more than a conqueror. The way to experience His peace is by believing the words of His mouth – “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace.” We enter His rest and enjoy His peace by trusting Him and living according to His word. He presents Himself to us as our helper, and we can only experience His help to the extent we believe His word on this. He is our helper because He is always on our side and always works for our good. Every unhelpful experience in your life is not from God but from the enemy. God is your helper and that means He makes things easier for you. His yoke is easy and His burden is light.

When God is your helper, whoever your enemy is becomes inconsequential. God is the ultimate power in the human universe, everything and everybody bows to Him. When He speaks, creation holds its breath. Whatever He decrees happens. God cannot be reversed; His position cannot be invalidated. Going contrary to His command comes with regrettable, if not damnable consequences to the culprit. Whatever God does, He does out of His own volition, without being compelled and cajoled. His choice to be your helper was therefore a clear testimony of His sovereign will and unaided decision. All He demands from you is to accept this offer and let Him be your helper indeed. He will help you by hiding you in the impregnable fortress of His presence. When God is your helper, your defence is assured, and your victory is guaranteed. May He indeed by your helper throughout this month of November in Jesus name.
