The Majjhima Nikāya 19, The Two Kinds of Thought (MN 19) is very relevant to modern life. We think every day, but the real question is not “Do we have thoughts?” but rather “What kind of thoughts are we feeding?”
The Buddha teaches us to observe our mind: which thoughts cause greed, anger, and harmfulness to grow, and which thoughts lead to letting go, compassion, and wisdom.
Just as a farmer chooses which seeds to sow, we are also choosing every day which thoughts we allow to remain in our minds, which thoughts we repeatedly entertain, and which thoughts we allow to grow.
Managing our thoughts is, in fact, managing our lives.
