Wat Changhai (วัดช้างให้) in Pattani, Thailand, is one of the most revered temples in Southern Thailand and across the Thai Buddhist world. It is famously associated with Luang Pu Thuat (หลวงปู่ทวด) — a legendary monk known for his miraculous powers and immense spiritual presence.

🛕 Wat Changhai: The Miracle Temple
• Location: Khok Pho District, Pattani Province, Southern Thailand
• Established: Over 300 years ago; gained renown in the 20th century
• Significance: It is considered the main shrine of Luang Pu Thuat, housing his remains and serving as a pilgrimage site.

Wat Changhai became known as the “miracle temple” for the many reports of supernatural events and protection that devotees claimed after visiting or wearing amulets blessed at the temple.

🧘‍♂️ Who is Luang Pu Thuat (LP Thuat)?

Luang Pu Thuat is one of Thailand’s most venerated monks, whose life is shrouded in myth, miracles, and deep respect. He is believed to have lived during the Ayutthaya period (~1582–1682). Although historical records are sparse, his spiritual legacy endures through oral traditions and amulets.

✨ Legends and Miracles of LP Thuat
1. Turning Seawater into Fresh Water
• During a sea voyage, when the boat ran out of fresh water, LP Thuat dipped his foot in the ocean and miraculously turned the salty water into drinkable fresh water. Even Muslims and non-Buddhists on the boat were said to have converted or become believers after witnessing this.
2. Walking Across Floodwaters
• In some stories, LP Thuat is said to have walked over water or appeared during floods to protect people and property.
3. Appearing in Dreams
• Many devotees report that LP Thuat appeared in dreams to warn, guide, or bless them, often in times of great danger or illness.
4. Protection from Accidents and Death
• People who wear Luang Pu Thuat amulets often share stories of surviving car accidents, gunfire, or other life-threatening events unscathed — attributing it to LP Thuat’s protection.

🧿 Luang Pu Thuat Amulets
• First created in 1954 at Wat Changhai under the supervision of Phra Ajahn Tim, a revered abbot.
• These amulets became incredibly famous for their protective power, often referred to as “Phra Luang Pu Thuat”.
• They are believed to:
• Protect from danger and black magic
• Bring safety in travel
• Instill peace and calm

Original amulets from Wat Changhai, especially the first batches (known as “Pim Yai 2497”), are now considered priceless and sacred.

🙏 Pilgrimage and Cultural Impact
• Wat Changhai remains a major pilgrimage site, especially for Thai Buddhists from the south, Malaysia, and Singapore.
• Every year, thousands visit to pray, meditate, and seek blessings.
• LP Thuat is revered not just as a monk, but as a Bodhisattva figure by many — someone who came to guide and protect sentient beings.

💬 Final Thought

The legend of LP Thuat and the miracle temple of Wat Changhai is more than religious folklore — it’s a living part of Thai spiritual culture. For believers, LP Thuat is proof that purity, meditation, and merit can transcend death, offering hope, strength, and protection in times of uncertainty.

If you’re ever in Pattani, a visit to Wat Changhai isn’t just a cultural experience — it’s a deeply moving spiritual journey.

Luang Pu Doo once said:

“Wherever a person misses me, I will also be thinking of him. Whenever he stops recollecting me, I am still thinking of him. Because I always pray for everyone, every day without fail—three times a day: at dawn, in the evening, and at night before I sleep—to help all of you be safe and well.”

A true practitioner of pawana (meditation) is one whom all beings love—not only humans and animals but even the tewadas (celestial beings) who anumodana (rejoice in merit) and bless him.

Luang Pu Doo emphasized the importance of overcoming kilesas (defilements). He taught that if one regards greed, hatred, and delusion as something rotten or foul-smelling, it is already a step towards wisdom.

When a luksit (disciple) once expressed frustration over not experiencing nimitta (visions) during meditation, Luang Pu Doo responded:

“Have your greed, anger, and delusion diminished or not? If they have, then I believe your meditation is still doable.”

This teaching reflects his profound insight: true progress in meditation is not measured by visions or supernatural experiences but by the purification of the mind.

Luang Phor Doo of Wat Sakae often emphasized the importance of meditation as a path to wisdom and liberation. One of his well-known teachings is:

“The mind is like a candle in the wind—unstable and flickering. Through meditation, you shield it, allowing the flame to burn steadily, illuminating the path to true understanding.”

His teachings frequently highlighted how meditation cultivates inner peace, sharpens wisdom, and leads to self-liberation.

🧧🧨Happy Chinese New Year🧨🧧
One of the well-known Dhamma quotes by Luang Pu Doo (LP Doo, Wat Sakae) on meditation is:

“Put your mind at the center of your body, and whatever arises, just know it. Don’t chase it, don’t hold onto it. Simply observe with awareness.”

This reflects his teaching on effortless awareness—meditation should be a process of letting go rather than forcing control. His approach emphasized that the mind will naturally settle into clarity and wisdom when one maintains presence without attachment.

Another profound quote by LP Doo:

“If the mind is with the Buddha, nothing can harm you.”

This reinforces his belief in using “Buddho” as a mantra during meditation, keeping the mind anchored in mindfulness and protection.

Biagae LP Doo, Wat Sakae, Ayutthaya Province

This Biagae is an extremely rare and unique amulet co-chanted by two revered monks: Luang Phor Doo and Luang Phor Sie of Wat Sakae.

1. The Origin of the Biagae
The Biagae was initially chanted by LP Sie of Wat Sakae for many years. His dedication and spiritual energy imbued the Biagae with immense sacred power.

2. Completion by LP Doo
After LP Sie’s nirvana, the unfinished Biagae was entrusted to LP Doo to complete the process. LP Doo, known for his extraordinary spiritual practices, added his famous sacred powder to the Biagae. To finalize the amulet, he carefully encased it in cement, further enhancing its sanctity and durability.

3. Historical Significance (2531)
This collaboration between two iconic monks makes the Biagae not only a powerful amulet but also a rare piece of history. It symbolizes the harmonious passing of spiritual lineage and blessings from LP Sie & LP Doo.

The Biagae remains a cherished and highly sought-after item among collectors and devotees due to its unique origin and extraordinary sacred energy.

Special Thanks to New Wat Sakae.

One of Luang Phor Doo’s most famous quotes related to business success is:

Keep your mind steady like water in a jar—calm, clear, and unwavering. When your mind is steady, your decisions will be wise, your actions correct, and success will naturally follow."**

Key Interpretation:
- Mindfulness: A calm and clear mind allows for better decision-making and resilience in the face of challenges.
- Ethical Action: LP Doo emphasized that success in business should align with morality (sila) and compassion, ensuring benefits for oneself and others.
- Steadiness: Staying focused and undistracted by greed, fear, or impatience is essential for achieving long-term success.

This advice reflects LP Doo’s belief that spiritual discipline and ethical mindfulness contribute not only to inner peace but also to external success.

Luang Pu said that it isn’t necessary to pour the waters of merit (gruad nam) to symbolize the transference of merit to the deceased. Pouring water is simply a reflection of Thai culture, in accordance with ancient Indian customs.

Legend stated that an Indian King was being pestered by his deceased relatives for merits. The Lord Buddha taught the king to practice dana and give offerings, before transferring the merit to his deceased relatives. The King performed this water pouring ceremony because just as the river flows towards the sea, he hoped that his accumulated merits would flow to his relatives.

Luang Pu taught that as the monks are chanting blessings for us, we should maintain a peaceful and equanimous mind and wish “May my accumulated merit always stay with me from this moment until the next life."

Khun Mae Boon Ruen was born on Sunday, the 4th Lunar Month of the 15th Waxing Moon of 2437 , (which is somewhere in March), in the morning at around 11.20 am, to Mr. Yim Klinphaka and Mrs Suan Klinphaka. She was born to a working class family of farmers.

During her childhood and teenage years, she had some education and studied the Thai language as well as picked up the art of cooking various dishes such as curries, stews and making chili paste. She also learned how to sew and make clothes as well as hairdressing.

Most importantly, Khun Mae also trained in the art of traditional Thai massage because her grandfather Ajaan Klin was a very famous massage therapist at that time.

Later on, Khun Mae applied her massage skills together with prayer in order to heal many people. One famous case was a patient who suffered from appendicitis, which was very dangerous in those days before modern surgery was available to the masses. However, Khun Mae was able to heal the sick via massage and prayer.

During her adolescence, she was introduced to Phra Ajaan Pring and started to learn more about Buddhism, including the Dhamma as well as living a virtuous life and about making merit. When she reached adulthood, she got married to Lt. Col. Joy Tongboonterm, a police officer at Samphanthawong Metropolitan Police Station.

Khun Mae began practising Vipassana Kammathan at Wat Samphanthawong, with Than Chao Khun Maha Ratchamangkhalan (LP Thet) the Chao Awat or abbot of Wat Samphanthawong as her teacher. One night, her family were all asleep when Khun Mae observed the elderly snoring and the young muttering or talking in their sleep and gnashing their teeth.

Khun Mae suddenly felt very tired and weary of endless rebirth and having to be born again and again, and she felt she wanted to take a break from all this, so she went to the Phra room to sit in meditation until 2am.

She felt very uncomfortable with a tightness in her chest as though she was suffocating and dying, but she decided to push on and thought that if she were going to die, just let her die. It was then when she saw a clear brightness and attained the Dhamma as well as all 5 Apinya (higher knowledges and psychic powers)

In the year 2499, the famous Phra Mongkol Series as well as this amulet, Phra Pang Marawichai (Phim Takrai), Wat Samphanthawong was adithanjit and consecrated by Khun Mae Boon Ruen that year.

On December the 6th 2500, either Phra Sivali or Phra Indra appeared to her in her meditation and gave her the following katha to be recited thus:

Namo Tassa….(3X)

Nachaliti Chimpali Ja Maha Thero, Suwanamama, Pohchanamama, Watuwatamama, Palapalangmama, Pohkamama, Mahalapomama, Sapaychana, Pahoochana, Phawantume

You can recite this katha for wealth and fortune or with her amulets.

From the year 2501, Khun Mae stopped treating diseases with massage for men except using mental power and prayer alone which were sufficient for her to cure illnesses.

However, she did not bother to treat her own body and was reluctant to despite pleadings from her own disciples. She told them that “This mind and body, the 5 aggregates, are not ours. They are only a temporary residence, a house of suffering which I would like to leave.” Khun Mae eventually passed away on the 7th of September at 2507.

In general, Khun Mae was revered for her kindness in helping people from all walks of life treat all kinds of illnesses and diseases and also for her psychic powers as well as her ability to bring fortune which were appreciated by those still struggling to make a living. Even today, many people go to Wat Awut or Wat Samphanthawong seeking her assistance from all matters regarding wealth, livelihood or health problems.

Most importantly, she was seen as a prime example of how a householder and layperson just like us ordinary Buddhist devotees can also attain the highest levels of Dhamma.

Do not think that making merit is simply bringing food to give (dana) to monks, or that it merely involves offering robes, building temple halls and other buildings. Nowadays, one is often bombarded by media suggesting that you should always donate money or other requisites when you visit the temple. However, the Buddha said making merit not only involves giving (dana), but is also about keeping the precepts (sila), chanting and meditation (sati-samadhi).

"I am glad that I was born as a poor person.
This life I was able to build and perfect my parami.
If I had been born into a wealthy family,
Even up to now I might not recognise the word "บุญ" [Boon]."

[บุญ / boon = merit, ทำบุญ / tamboon = to do or make merit]
