Mayuranathar temple @ Mayavaram / Tamilnadu, BHARAT (India)

The town Mayavaram is around 46 KM from Chidambaram .. It is famous for an ancient Lord Shiva temple called Mayuranathar temple ( Lord Shiva in Lingam form ) .. As per records and inscriptions , it is believed that it was built in the period of medieval Cholas in 9th century AD .. that is that this temple is around 1300 years ..The grandeur of the Chola architecture makes it one of the most beautiful shrines in Tamil Nadu...

Added attraction in this temple is KUDHAMBAI SIDDHAR Jeeva Samadhi ..Siddhars are great scholars lived in India .. It is strongly believed by devotees that praying in the Siddhar Sannidhi brings lots of positive energy vibrations to the devotee .. There are around 18 siddhars lived in the ancient times .. Sage AGASTHIYAR is a siddhar too ..

The second attraction is the God SATTAI NATHAR who is a manifestation of Lord Shiva .. This unique form of Lord Shiva darshan can be had in Sirkhazhi which is at 20 KM from Mayavaram... It is opened for devotees darshan on Fridays ..

LEGEND OF SATTAINATHAR :
Mahavishnu incurred a dosham for having sent King Mahabali to Patalam ( story of Vamana Avatara). He wanted to get relieved of this and prayed here. Shiva wanted to show that there is no difference between Him and Vishnu and He took the skin off Vishnu’s body whereby the dosham was removed. He used this skin as an adornment in His body and hence He is called Sattainathar ( sattai in tamil means shirt or dress).

The Legend of Mayuranathaswami Temple:
According to the legend, once Lord Shiva gets angered by Goddess Parvathi. So, he curses her to be born as a peacock... Later she repents for her mistake and asks for forgiveness. Hence, she prays at Mylapore and Mayiladuthurai to overcome the curse. Pleased by her penance, Lord Shiva is said to have forgiven her...

This temple has a beautiful Nataraja Bronze statue with His Consort Parvathi called Sivagami Ammai in Tamil .. I uploaded here a close up shot of this ancient Lord Nataraja bronze statue .. The craftsmanship is really unbelievable
