🌿 SuDi Workshop: Suttas Made Simple

Discovering the Buddha’s Original Teachings for Everyday Life

What are suttas?

Suttas are the recorded discourses of the Buddha — the original teachings where he spoke directly about life, suffering, and the path to inner peace.

But with thousands of suttas in the Buddhist scriptures, many of us may wonder:

Where do I begin? Which ones should I read? How do I navigate such a vast collection?

This workshop is specially designed to make the suttas easier to understand and more approachable.

Together, we will explore:
📖 what the suttas are and why they matter
🧭 how the sutta collections are organised
🔍 how to navigate and find suttas suitable for your practice
🌱 how to begin learning directly from the Buddha himself

We are honoured to have Dd. Nee Wern facilitating this workshop. Deeply inspired by the suttas, he is passionate about helping others connect with the Buddha’s teachings in a practical and meaningful way.

Back on 10 May, we came together for a workshop on 'The Gradual Practice of Brahma Vihāra' with Dd. Tan Huat Chye, and it turned out to be a really meaningful session.

One thing that stayed with us was the reminder that loving-kindness, compassion, appreciative joy, and equanimity are not qualities we suddenly “have” one day. They are cultivated gradually, through the small moments in our daily lives.

The workshop gave us space to reflect on how we deal with stress, difficult situations, and even difficult people — and how the Dhamma can guide us to respond with more patience, understanding, and balance.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and spent the afternoon learning and reflecting together. It’s always heartening to see people making time for Dhamma amidst the busyness of life.

We’re looking forward to more sessions like this, and we hope to see even more of you next time. 🙏

It began with a shared concern.

GLAD 14 marked one of our earliest moments of coming together (in February 2023) —
individuals from different backgrounds, and from different Buddhist centers, united by one honest question:

Why is the Buddhist population steadily declining — and what can we do to help?

There were no quick answers.
No blame.
Only sincere reflection and dialogue.

Over the course of the programme, we looked beyond numbers and activities, and turned inward — to leadership, relevance, and how the Dhamma is lived and shared in today’s world.

What emerged was a quiet but powerful realisation:
the future of Buddhism depends not only on preservation, but on transformation.

🌱 That question did not end here.
It called us to reflect more deeply.

What is d’CRADLE?

d’CRADLE stands for
Centre for Research and Dhamma Leadership Enhancement.

At its heart, it is a team working to support the long-term growth of the Buddhist community—
by developing people, not just programmes.

They design and organise workshops, trainings, and initiatives
that help individuals grow in clarity, purpose, and responsibility in life.

Their focus is simple:

• nurturing leadership from within
• encouraging personal transformation
• sharing meaningful values in a practical, everyday way

Everything they do is guided by a few intentions—
to grow with wisdom,
to understand ourselves more deeply,
and to care for others with sincerity.

Here in Sabah, we support this effort
by bringing these learning spaces closer to home.

If you’ve ever been curious about growing as a person,
understanding life more deeply,
or simply finding a more grounded way to live—

you’re welcome to explore with us 🌿🌟
