This week we celebrate ‘Palm Sunday.’ I am reminded of Jesus entry into Jerusalem.
Scripture tells us that Jesus requested a donkey. The donkey is a sign of humility, labor, and regal authority. Kings rode on donkeys. This particular donkey had not been used or ridden by anyone else. The donkey was tied up and waiting for Jesus to ride him. Jesus sat on a pure-bred donkey for his triumphal entry into Jerusalem (Matthew 21:1-11).
There were multitudes of people spreading their clothes on the road as the donkey carrying our Lord Jesus passed by. Many praising God and waving branches from palm trees. It was indeed a great honor for the donkey to have the privilege to carry Jesus, the King of kings and Lord of Lords.
Like the donkey, we are privileged to carry Jesus with us in our journey of life. As we serve Him and do great and mighty works for God, may we always remember that the cheers from the crowd, the praises and claps we may receive, are meant for Jesus, our rider, and not for us.
“I am the Lord; that is my name! I will not yield my glory to another or my praise to idols” (Isaiah 42:8).
Psalms 115: 1 declared, “Not to us, Lord, not to us but to your name be the glory, because of your love and faithfulness.”
Scriptures tell us that John the Baptist spent the greater part of his life in prison. He ate wild locust and honey. He wore clothes made from camel’s hair with a leather belt. He had no great title to his name. He had no wealth or assets to boast of. John spent time in prison and was beheaded under Herod.
Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist, yet whoever is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he “(Matthew 11:11). No famous politicians, billionaire entrepreneurs, academic experts, inventors, royalties, preachers, church leaders, authors, or anyone on this earth can be considered greater than John the Baptist. No one born of woman, in this present age, or in the past, nor ever in the future can be considered greater than John the Baptist.
Yet Jesus said, whoever is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than John the Baptist! Whatever greatness or fame we claimed to have on earth, remember our benchmark – John the Baptist.
May we attribute all our achievements and successes to Jesus Christ, who deserves all the glory, honor and majesty.
