A BACHELOR'S DEGREE BAGGED

An academic story for Elina Kamwaza is here an inspiration for us at MM-MCSPA School feeding Program.

We congratulate her defying all olds and picking up her journey of studies; today she hasn graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Community Development.

Elina Kamwaza who got her employment as a School Feeding Officer(SFO) at MM-MCSPA has rose over time to a Principle School Feeding Officer(PSFO) and now to holding the position of School Feeding Manager(SFM).

Reaching this feet academically, has been due to her tenacity to achieve more, determination and discipline which is posting a strong model and success characters for other ladies and girls who are shaping their academic future too!

As MCSPA School feeding program, we wish you well as you execute your work and moreso other success that are yet to come in your life journey.

A FUTURE FOR WISHES EMMANUEL IS IN THE MAKING

Wishes Emmanuel is 8 years of age currently in grade 3 and his career dream is to become a Doctor.

Since his inception to grade 1 at Chambidzi primary school where there is MM-MCSPA school feeding program, his life has changed remarkably. Every day, he looks forward to the nutritious meals provided at the school, which he said after being nourished with the nutritious meal, it makes him active and energetic to highly participate in class and focus on his studies.

In his last term examination taken in his class, Wishes’ hard work and determination paid off: he scored on position 2 compared to position 3 which he scored in term 1; an achievement he proudly shares with his teachers and friends.

He attributes his improved performance to the school feeding program, which ensures he is well nourished and ready to learn.

Beyond academics, the program has also boosted his confidence and motivation, inspiring him to continue striving towards his dream of becoming a doctor.

Wishes Emmanuel's story stands as a shining example of how access to proper nutrition can transform a young learner’s potential into real success just with a cup full of porridge daily while at School.

MM-MCSPA JOURNEY WITH COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS IN MEAL DELIVERY TO SCHOOLS

Community members are integral stakeholders in school feeding program. From the community is where MM-MCSPA formed School Health and Nutrition (SHN) committees mandated to organize volunteers who support in preparing daily meals for the leaners, fuelwood mobilization, replacement of broken utensils, just to state some but a few.
Chongole Primary School is one of the schools in MM-MCSPA feeding program, they have a very vibrant SHN committee which is able to run the feeding program with volunteers offering their kind of love as cooks. In her contribution, one of the cooks, Fatuma Langitoni stressed that she is very motivated by what the School Feeding program is able to achieve in the area. Here is in her own voice:
‘’ as a parent I am very motivated knowing that my children and those of others will have a meal in the morning at school and be able to attend lessons with high participation and improve education performance’’. This is the reason she opted to be part of the SHN committee.
Despite their effective running of daily activities at the school, the SHN committees face challenges that seems not to shake them due to their well-organized committees after capacity building and training offered by MM-MCSPA in Schools.
In journeying with School leadership committees, Maclean Nyasulu our staff who frequently visit Schools and monitor the feeding had this to say:
‘’I constantly engage School committees to listen and give them advise, remind them of their roles and sometimes to hear from them of the challenges they encounter and craft practical mechanisms in solving together’’. Here he added that, ‘’through these initiatives, Chongole School is one of the schools that is able to achieve 95 percent feeding rate in a School term’’.
MM-MCSPA meal post a holistic partaking for the wellbeing of children, the school feeding program indeed does not only give assurance that children will be fed when they go to school, but also make sure that children have access to attain education.

MM-MCSPA currently delivers the school meals to 98 Schools serving meals to 75,000 Children.

NEW STRONG KITCHENS LAUCHED IN CHIKHO AND MSUMBA EDUCATION ZONES

It is inspiring joy and hope to our learners across all Schools that since the inception of School feeding programme delivered by our incredible team from partners, staffs, stakeholders and volunteers in 2020; all 98 Schools which are served with a hot porridge meal each School day has reached a 100 percent of permanent Kitchens constructed within every School premise.

Today is a remarkable infrastructural development as 22 completed Kitchens in Chikho and Msumba zones have been launched, a milestone that has changed the landscape of our School environment. 

During the launch, T/A Nthondo representing all local leaders in his submission had this to say:

 “The Journey that was marked from the use of temporary thatched Kitchens in all our Schools to now having permanent Kitchens is of a great change witnessed in our Schools”.  In Msumba zone this gesture will continue to improve the well-being of our children. Thanks for the proper collaboration, speedy quality work and support from manos unidas for the Kitchen constructed across all our Schools”.

MCSPA in partnership with Mary’s meals has honed a model that fits in the rural area for the School feeding programme-reaching out to the hard to reach Schools in serving the most vulnerable children while promoting new innovations and maintaining the quality and food safety for the nutritious meal and standards.

Elina Kamwaza, the Field School feeding programme manager reiterated that “the Kitchens offer a shining example of innovation in School meal delivery and indeed as a platform for nutritious meals preparation, safety, ensuring efficiency and high-quality standards at the School level” 

Over our past 5 years, the kitchen space has continuously optimized our operations to meet the growing nutritional needs of children across 98 Schools extending the meal served to over 70,000 across all 98 Schools.

"Every contribution matters"

As we joined the globe to celebrate the international volunteer day, in our news collection, it took us to Chamalire primary School.
Chamalire Primary School is one of the highest performing schools on academic ground found at Kasangadzi Zone in Nkhotakota district. On the School feeding program our volunteers maintain over 95% feeding rate every month.

In our visit to the School, Mr Saulosi Saukani the head teacher of this school had this to share in his own words “The school feeding program has increased Enrolment and Attendance thereby reducing the rate of absenteeism. When he compared the days of having Corn and SoyBlend(CSB) cooked and of the days of having no cooking at a School, attendance is found to increase when there is cooking and vice-versa ”,

He again added that the School feeding program has helped to improve pass rate as the average pass rate at school level for the 2025 academic year was at 87% which is higher compared to the previous academic years ”.

In his final remarks he called for a sustained School feeding program. For MCSPA, the School feeding impacts are as a result of collective contribution in ensuring that the children receive a meal daily at the place of education and indeed the contribution of everyone matters.

Thank you our volunteers and everyone for the invaluable work delivered at Schools in making the feeding possible.

World porridge day commemorated in style!

That day when we wake up in the dawn hours, children with their notebooks and a mug in their hands rashing to their place of education with hope to receive a meal known as Phala(Porridge)-the seamless simple meal made us gathered today at Takumana Primary School.

The MCSPA School feeding programme joined the globe to commemorate the world porridge day that falls on the 10th October every year on a theme "the porridge that Smile". The day has been celebrated through dramas, songs, poems, serving of porridge meal, personal testimonials from the children, volunteers and through stakeholder Speeches.

From all activities, it was clear that the porridge is not simple at all as could seem to be; children witnessed that it is able to end hunger immediately while in School, improve their nutritional health, ignite participation during lessons, improve attendance, enrolment and at a central point allow them gain an education among other benefits.

From MCSPA School feeding programme we thank our volunteers for the total support and invaluable efforts, love and stamina they offer in ensuring that our commitment of providing a meal every School day to our children is achieved.

Happy world porridge day! And here we continue the School feeding movement.
