Yofu SDA church commemorates 37th World Adventurer Day in Likoma

By Ireen Edwina Mseteka (Communicator )

Seventh-day Adventist Church members at Yofu SDA Church in Likoma Island on Sabbath commemorated the 37th World Adventurers Day with a call for Christians to walk faithfully with Jesus despite life’s challenges.

In his sermon, Praise Mtaya preached under a theme “Walking with Jesus,” and reminded congregants that walking with Jesus is greater than anything in life because it brings guidance, protection and hope. Quoting John 8:12.

"Jesus described Himself as the light of the world, this light helps us to see where we are going and protects and it protects us from danger. As christians you need to walk with Jesus daily so that you may know what is right and you should remain on the right path," said Mtaya.

He encouraged believers to emulate biblical figures such as Enoch, Moses and Simon Peter who remained faithful to God despite facing many trials. Referring to Genesis 5:24 and Hebrews 11:5, adding that Enoch walked closely with God until he was taken away by Him.

Mtaya further said that Moses continued walking with God even in the desert where he faced many challenges, while Simon Peter also remained steadfast despite hard times.

“As Christians, we will face obstacles, including from people close to us, but we should never stop walking with Jesus because He is the light guiding our way,” he said.

He also advised young people not to wait until old age to start following Christ but now is the time.

In the afternoon, the church continued with another programme under the theme “I will follow You,” where members were encouraged to remain committed to Christ in all aspects of life.

Chintheche SDA celebrates Adventurers Day with a message of hope

By Stanley Mwenda

Chintheche Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) church joined the world in celebrating this year's Adventurers Day on Sabbath 16 May 2026, with a sigh of relief as Adventurers delivered a a message of hope.

The Adventurers crafted inspiring messages under a theme "walking faithful with Jesus" through presentations, recitations and songs that uplifted the lives of congregants spiritually.

During Divine Service, two Adventurers delivered two powerful sermons depicting three men in Bible who walked with God faithfully and emerged victorious.

The first preacher, Rebecca Nyirenda, preached under the theme “Walking With Jesus.” She shared the story of Enock and Elijah explaining how they faithfully walked with God until He took them away. Her message encouraged believers to remain close to Jesus in their everyday lives.

The second preacher, Miracle Katantha, preached about David and how he defeated Goliath through faith in God. She also reminded the congregation about the children of Israel crossing the Red Sea by God’s power.

Adventurers Day celebrations were colorful with full participation of the church members making memorable occasion.

Seventh-day Adventist Church members at Likoma SDA Church have been urged to take care of God’s property, including time, talents, tithe and their bodies, saying everything belongs to God.

Master Guide Zimulange Mhango made the remarks on Friday during the closing ceremony of the church’s stewardship week which started from May 3 to 9 under the theme “Kusamala zinthu za Mulungu”.

Mhango quoted Psalms 33:6, saying the heavens and everything in them were created by the word of God, therefore Christians should acknowledge God as the owner of all things.

"In Exodus 20:8, it reminds us as Christians to keep the Sabbath holy, although we may forget, but remember that God continues to remind us to respect the Sabbath day," said Mhango.

Quoting John 14:15, Mhango said Christians who truly love God must keep His commandments, adding that some people wrongly believe the commandments are no longer important.

He further cited Acts 7:49, saying heaven is God’s throne and earth His footstool, therefore people should not boast as if church activities depend on them because everything belongs to God and the church will continue even after individuals die.

Mhango also encouraged Christians to faithfully pay tithe, saying the practice started long ago as a sign that everything belongs to God. He warned believers against misusing tithe and urged them to avoid adultery, beer drinking and other sinful acts because the body is the temple of God.

He said God gave people six working days and expects them to use their time wisely while remaining faithful in attending church meetings and using their talents for His work.

Did you know anything about Chituka SDA Church?

The history of Chituka SDA Church dates back to around 1960 when the work started from Nkhole before moving to Chituka. It was in Chituka where a small group of believers began worshipping and despite being few in number they remained strong in faith and committed to the mission. From this humble beginning the message later expanded to Gomo and many of the churches within the district today have their roots from Chituka.

In those early years, the place of worship was located behind the road near what is now known as Yoneco. As the church continued to grow the traditional authority guided the members to move from the roadside to a more suitable place. By 1971, they had a small church and made a decision to construct a permanent building under the leadership of Mr Sokosi, later receiving support from a white person known as Pias around 1980.

The church building was completed in 1981, marking an important milestone. Despite being one of the pioneer churches in the district, development has been slow over the years.

This is one of the oldest churches within the district. Let’s support them in the new projects they are aiming to achieve including building a bigger church which is currently at foundation level. Your contribution can make a difference.

As one way of fostering unity and equipping one another on effective church Communication, Chintheche district communicators of Seventh-day Adventist church gathered at Chituka church for fellowship.

The communicators reflected their role in the mission of the church as they explored the theme "Reaching the World Using Communication Channels."

Speaking to this publication, Blandina Lomphwa of Chintheche Central Church who was the Main Speaker said communication is not only about media platforms but also about how individuals live, speak and relate with others in their daily lives.

She emphasised that every believer has responsibility to guard their tongues and behaviours as actions speak louder than voice.

In her sermon, Lomphwa centered on 1 Corinthians 6:19, reminding the congregation that their bodies are the temples of the Holy Spirit and therefore, are instruments throughwhich Christ message can be communicated.

In the afternoon sessions, communicator Stanley Mwenda and Emmanuel Nkusang'ombe led facilitations on responsible use of communication channels, maintaining integrity and sharing messages that build and inspire the community among other key communication areas.

The gathering of about 80 participants served as a reminder that every Christian is a communicator hence our lives must consistently reflect Christ to the world.

Anchored in the Storm

Members of Mbungo Seventh-day Adventist church in Likoma have been challenged to remain calm amidst storms of life as Jesus Christ the Master is in control of everything.

Master Guide Jane Zimba made the call on Sabbath in her powerful sermon titled 'Anchored in the Storm' which brought attention as we live in the uncertain world.

Zimba noted that life's storms are not thunder and rain, but challenges such as financial loss, illness, loss of loved ones, and anxiety things many people face, especially in these last days.

Taking her main text from Mark 4:39, Zimba reminded the church that although the disciples had Jesus in the boat, they were still afraid. She emphasized that true peace is not the absence of problems, being a Christian does not mean we will not face challenges, but it means knowing who is with us during those difficult times.

She encouraged Christians to call upon Jesus whenever they face challenges, instead of seeking solutions from sources that may lead them away from God. The Master Guide urged believers to trust in God’s power to calm every storm and to anchor their faith in Him the sustainer of everything.

North Malawi Conference launches Stewardship Discipleship Program

By Frank Kauteka Tembo
NMC Media

North Malawi Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist has launched Stewardship Discipleship Program (STEP-DP) a Southern Africa-Indian Ocean Division (SID) pilot project to be run for a year of 2026.

Speaking during the official launch of the program at Luwinga church, Malawi Union Conference (MUC) Stewardship Director Pastor Patrick Mhoko said the program has come following the unfaithfulness of members in terms of returning tithe and offerings in the division.

The program focuses on the Bible Class members so that they are trained to be faithful stewards before they receive baptism so that we have a faithful membership ready for salvation. Luwinga SDA Church has been chosen as a pilot church in the North Malawi Conference for the STEP-DP for the year.

Speaking on behalf of the NMC President, NMC Executive Secretary Pastor Vallen Ndimbwa welcomed the initiative saying it will help the faithfulness of members which has gone down saying only 16% of the total members return tithe.

During the launch, Bible Class members received two books each of STEP-DP Volume 1 and Volume 2 where they will read and make summary of every chapter and implement what they have read.

Luwinga Church Pastor Halfax Nkhata and Bible Class Leader Elder Robert Munthali have been tasked to run the project whereby NMC and MUC Stewardship Directors will monitor the progress of the project to the end.

North Malawi Conference has a total membership of 137, 546 with 823 churches .
