The ELCM Head Office and ELDs have officially reopened after the Christmas and New Year holiday break, led by the Presiding Bishop Dr. J.P. Bvumbwe, who shared a reflection from John 1:9 reminding us that Christ, the true Light, shines to guide all people.

The Presiding Bishop advised that as a church we must let this light illuminate our ministries, through teaching, caring for the needy, and fostering unity, so that our work becomes a living testimony of God’s presence. This reopening marks a renewed commitment to serve with faith, hope, and dedication in all that we do.

On Sunday, December 14, 2025, Presiding Bishop Dr. Joseph P. Bvumbwe finished his work in the Monkey Bay/Mangochi Deanery with prayers and a candle-lighting ceremony at Mangochi Parish Centre.
The ceremony was held to remember people living with HIV, those who are sick, and those who have died because of the disease.

Every year in December, the Evangelical Lutheran Church holds this event as part of the global remembrance of HIV/AIDS. In 2025, the event followed the World AIDS Day theme: β€œOvercoming disruption, transforming the AIDS response.”

This annual act of faith and remembrance reminds us of our shared responsibility to bring hope, healing, and unity in the fight against HIV/AIDS

On 12th December, 2025, the Presiding Bishop of Evangelical Lutheran Church in Malawi (ELCM), Rt. Rev. Dr. Joseph P. Bvumbwe led the Head Office Staff in a goat pass‑on exercise at Chilole Congregation in Mangochi Deanery, a hard‑to‑reach area. The program is part of ELCM strengthening community and Livelihoods, providing 20 families with goats to multiply and later pass on to others, ensuring that more households benefit over time.

The pass‑on model promotes sustainability and solidarity within the community. By sharing livestock across households, families gain improved food security and income opportunities. This approach strengthens resilience and creates hope, empowering the congregation to work together for long‑term development and self‑reliance.

In addition to the goat pass‑on exercise, Chilole Congregation is also benefiting from a feeding program for the children, a borehole for safe water, and access to a mobile clinic, among other programs. In his remarks, Bishop Bvumbwe emphasized the vital role of the church in community life, stressing that its mission extends beyond spiritual guidance to practical action that uplifts livelihoods and empowers communities both spiritually and economically.
