On 12 March 2026, we successfully launched a Preschool Education Program (PEPE) Unit at Sengabay Baptist Church in Salima, named Joyful PEPE Unit. The event was attended by local leaders, church members, the unit’s board, PTA committee, parents, missionary educators, and the students. It was truly a joyful moment for the church and the community.

The Joyful PEPE Unit began in September 2025 with only 3 children after signing an agreement with PEPE coordination. By the end of the term, enrollment had grown to 15 learners, and in January 2026 the number increased to 34 children. The teachers also attended basic PEPE training in October and continue to work closely with PEPE authorities for guidance.
The church currently manages the unit through a Board and a Parents–Teacher Association (PTA), with a Director overseeing administrative work. While classroom renovations are underway due to previously damaged structures, the children are temporarily using the church building for their lessons.

PEPE units do not charge formal school fees. Instead, parents agree on a small contribution through the PTA and board to support the running of the unit. This contribution also acts as a commitment from parents and the community, encouraging them to send their children to school and creating a strong sense of ownership of the program.

Despite financial challenges, especially with renovating classrooms. the church has shown great commitment, unity, and passion in making this initiative possible.
PEPE (Preschool Education Program) is a church-based early childhood education initiative that provides holistic learning and Christian values to children, especially in communities where access to preschool education is limited.
We are grateful to everyone who contributed to making this initiative a success.

This week we continued follow-ups with churches that received the Missionary Educator Basic Training in October 2025 in Salima District. Today we held a conversation with a board member from the Joyful PEPE Unit at Sengabay Baptist Church.
The discussion highlighted the church’s strong commitment to the program and a clear vision for the unit. Like the PEPE unit at Redemption Sanctuary Church, Joyful PEPE operates without any external support. The unit started with 13 children and has now grown to 33 children.

🌱 Nourishing Children, Strengthening Communities 🌱

Within the PEPE Program, nutrition plays a vital role in supporting children’s growth and learning. Churches with the capacity to provide meals are encouraged to do so, while families that send meals from home are guided toward nutritious, uniform options that support healthy development.

In Salima Chitala, Redemption Sanctuary Church has taken a bold and inspiring step. After mobilizing the local community, the church ventured into farming to sustainably support a school feeding initiative tailored to the local environment. The surrounding communities face significant economic challenges, with many households struggling to provide consistent, nutritious meals for their children.

With the launch of its PEPE unit planned for September, the church intends to begin providing nutritious porridge to children as part of the program. In preparation, they are strengthening infrastructure, completing required documentation, and engaging key stakeholders to ensure a solid and sustainable foundation.

What makes this initiative remarkable is that Redemption Sanctuary is a fully local church with no external funding—driven solely by passion, faith, and a deep commitment to the well-being of children and their community. With limited resources but unwavering determination, they are choosing to act.

🤝 We share this story to inspire partnerships, collaboration, and support for grassroots initiatives that are creating real impact where it is needed most. Together, we can ensure that no child’s potential is limited by hunger.

In the PEPE context, inclusive education means creating learning environments where every child aged 3–5 is welcomed, valued, and supported, regardless of ability, background, or developmental pace. It recognizes that each child is uniquely created and develops differently, and therefore deserves equal opportunity to learn and thrive.
Through PEPE training, missionary educators are equipped with practical, low-cost, and child-centered strategies that enable them to adapt teaching methods, play activities, and classroom organization to meet diverse learning needs. This ensures that no child is excluded due to physical, social, emotional, or learning challenges.
Inclusive education within PEPE is not about specialized facilities, but about intentional care, observation, flexibility, and partnership with families and the church. By embedding inclusion into early learning, churches become safe spaces of growth, dignity, and hope thereby laying a strong foundation for lifelong learning.

Greetings PEPE family. Happy new year to each and everyone of us. 13 days into the month of January, we are energized and enthusiastic to take more steps in this year. We expect to at least end the year with a minimum of 10 units. We are yet to launch multiple units as it stands as well as train more missionary educators from different regions and churches. As a family let's stand in prayer and rely on God to take the leading role in our work.

THE POWER OF EFFORT — A LESSON FROM OUR MALAWI OJIYA & CONDUCTORS

Every day in Malawi, we meet ojiya and conductors shout, “Mzuzu! Lilongwe! Town-town!”
Even when the road has only one direction… even when you’re just standing at a stage waiting for someone…
they will still approach you.
Not once, not twice—but multiple times.

And right there is a powerful life lesson:

🔥 Effort matters.

These men don’t assume.
They don’t wait for passengers to magically come.
They don’t fear rejection.
They know one thing:
Opportunities favor those who keep showing up.

Many people lose out in life not because they aren’t gifted,
but because they aren’t willing to put in the effort.

Your dreams won’t move just because you “wish.”
Movement requires ENERGY.
Progress requires CONSISTENCY.

If the ojiya can show up daily, pushing through rejection and heat,
how much more should we, who carry God-given purpose?

📖 God hates laziness and blesses diligence.

➡️ “Lazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth.” — Proverbs 10:4
➡️ “Go to the ant, you lazy person; learn from its ways.” — Proverbs 6:6–11
➡️ “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart…” — Colossians 3:23

So today, be inspired:
Show up.
Try again.
Push with purpose.
Work with excellence.

Because God rewards EFFORT.
Stay blessed PEPE-Malawi Family
