17th OCTOBER is the INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR THE ERADICATION OF POVERTY

"The Baha'i approach to the problem of extreme poverty is based on the application of spiritual principles. The economic relationships of a society reflect the values of its members. Therefore, to transform those relationships man's character must be transformed. Until justice is valued over greed, the gap between the rich and the poor will continue to widen, and the dream of sustainable economic growth, peace and prosperity will elude our grasp. Sensitizing mankind to the vital role of spiritual values in solving economic problems will, we are convinced, create a new impetus for change."

The Pragmatic Role of Religion in Building Communities Free of Gender Based Violence

Emphasis is placed on the process of spiritual education and social empowerment, at the heart of which is, is a commitment to assisting growing numbers of individuals to apply spiritual principles to their daily lives and to the broader challenges facing society. In this discourse, the ultimate goal being, the emergence of a new world – one where justice and equality are upheld, and women and men work shoulder to shoulder to build vibrant, prosperous and peaceful societies.

The Spiritual Nature of Bahá'i Elections

In May 2025, The Bahá’is of Malawi elected their National Spiritual Assembly alongside all other countries worldwide.

The Bahá'í election process is a sacred practice rooted in spiritual principles, emphasising prayerful reflection, selflessness, and the collective search for individuals who exemplify integrity, wisdom, and a capacity to serve. The elections are uniquely devoid of campaigning or nominations. Voters silently and privately, in a prayerful mode, select those they feel are best suited to foster unity and advance the common good.

To those who equate elections with divisiveness and taking sides, the Baha’i electoral process may seem like an unattainable ideal, but is demonstrated in action at the Baha’i National Conventions, that occur annually during the Ridván period.
