The Student Christian Organisation of Malawi (Scom) has planted 100 fruit trees at Chitowo Community Day Secondary School in Dedza after the school asked for support in promoting environmental care among learners.
Scom Social Development Coordinator Madalitso Bula says the tree planting is part of the organisation’s creation care program, which encourages students to look after their environment.
Headteacher Gabriel Kamweta welcomed the initiative, saying tree planting was once common in schools and villages but has faded over time.
Form One student Faith Monjeza says the exercise is important for the younger generation.
