The Chairperson of the Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM), Sheikh Idrisa Muhammad, has commended the Government of Morocco for its consistent commitment to the development of African nations.

Sheikh Muhammad made these remarks while delivering a congratulatory message to Sheikh Hessein Ubini, the Administrative Secretary of Mama Khadija Girls Academy, who emerged in third position at this year’s Islamic Research Competition held in Morocco.

The competition was organized by the King Muhammad VI Foundation for African Ulama, and Sheikh Ubini’s research focused on Common Fixed Religious Teachings in Africa.

The MAM Chairperson further highlighted Morocco’s support across various sectors, particularly in education, where many Malawian youths benefit from scholarships to pursue their studies in the Kingdom. He also acknowledged Morocco’s assistance in the health and agriculture sectors.

Sheikh Muhammad also praised Morocco’s contribution to Islamic development through institutions such as the King Muhammad VI Foundation for African Ulama, which continues to organize programs in Qur’an, Hadith, and Islamic research.

He noted that these initiatives have significantly enhanced people’s understanding of Islam and have played a vital role in the preservation of the Holy Qur’an.

“We sincerely appreciate the support from the Moroccan government. I pray that Allah grants King Muhammad good health and abundant blessings,” Sheikh Muhammad said.

The Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM), through its legal team, has stepped in to defend the right of Kachanga Mosque in Blantyre to call the adhan after Kalibu Academy sought a court injunction to stop it.

MAM’s Secretary General, Alhaj Dr. Twaibu Lawe, confirmed the development in an interview with Radio Islam, noting that the mosque is being represented in court by Cacius Chidothe and Morris Matola M’baya.

As the umbrella body for all Islamic institutions in Malawi, MAM has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding religious freedoms, including the adhan.

Kalibu Academy reportedly requested the injunction a few weeks ago, arguing that the call to prayer was disturbing learning activities.

The case, which was postponed on Tuesday, 25 November 2025, is expected to be heard next week.

Alhaj Dr. Twaibu Lawe has called on all Muslims to remain calm, united, and peaceful as they await the court’s decision.
