The Ministry of Health has asked stakeholders to implement all interventions that can contribute to the elimination of Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) in the country.

The call comes following the world commemorations of the World Neglected Tropical Diseases today.

According to a statement by Chief of Health Services (Reforms), Martias Joshua, Malawi has eliminated other diseases such as elephantiasis, trachoma and leprosy as diseases of public health concern which is why there is need for elimination of NTDs too.

Joshua has added that peoole should take drugs during mass drug administration of NTDs, ensure that they have sanitary facilities and timely seek medical care for NTDs.

Some of the NTDs include schistosomiasis, soil transmitted helminthiasis, onchocerciasis and human African trypanosomiasis.

The Ministry of Agriculture has directed the National Economic Empowerment Fund (NEEF) to station it's officers at each agriculture Extension Planning Area (EPA) for easy facilitation of agricultural loans which NEEF is giving to small scale farmers across the country.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture Benedicto Chambo in an interview says this will help to ensure that farmers are getting the inputs in good time for the next planting season.

"The farm inputs loans by NEEF is a huge program in the Chakwera administration which has the potential to turn around our agricultural sector if well implemented. This year the program was delayed due to some factors which were beyond our control. But we cannot repeat the same, that is why we want NEEF to use our existing offices to start verification of loan applications so that by August this year, the inputs should be in EPA ready for collection by farmers," he says.

Chambo says his Ministry will also engage the Ministry of Trade to prepare farm gate prices and possible markets for this year's produce to ensure that farmers are not ripped of their produce but unscrupulous vendors.

NEEF Chief Executive Officer Humphrey Mdyetseni welcomes the move, saying it will give his organisation an opportunity to easily network with the farmers.

"We will definitely work with these frameworks because they are giving us an opportunity to easily monitor what our clients are doing with the inputs loans," he says.

Mdyetseni says NEEF has Currently budget about K150 billion for input loans and hopes that the funds will be topped up during the forthcoming sitting of the National Assembly.

Soundfreak entertainment has embarked on a journey to introduce and promote the new generation of Djs and artists in Malawi.

With the aim of grooming young up and coming crop of DJs and introduce them to the industry, the soundfreak have organised the first event callend "The Next Generation" which will be held at Blues Bar this coming Saturday.

Speaking about the event, Dj Maya who is the lead coordinator for the event said it is imperative for the old generation of Creatives to show the young one support by welcoming them and show them the way.

Going forward the event will spread across the country and be held at different venues as one way of reaching out to a lot of young talent.

According to Dj Maya, there are so many talented young creatives who are willing to step up and take over from the old ones and all they need is someone to show them support.

The Saturday event will start at 8pm and will be spiced up by DJ West, Dj Ghost, Dj Salvo and Dj Happy. There will also be some surprise guest artists to perform on the night.
