As we begin the Lenten season on Ash Wednesday, we are called to reflect on the profound words of Scripture:

“You are dust, and to dust you shall return.” (Genesis 3:19)

On Ash Wednesday, February 18, 2026, we begin the sacred season of Lent, marked by ashes that remind us of our humility and our need for conversion. In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus calls us to practice prayer, fasting, and almsgiving not for recognition, but with sincere hearts turned toward the Father who sees what is hidden. This day invites us to quiet our pride, deepen our relationship with God in the silence of our hearts, and renew our commitment to love and serve others with genuine faith. As we receive the ashes, may we embrace this Lenten journey with humility, repentance, and hope.

CFL Malawi wishes to announce with deep sorrow the passing of one of its founding members, Mr. Dominic Gomez, who went to be with the Lord on 3rd January 2026.

As a church family, we mourn the loss of a devoted servant of God whose presence, commitment, and love for the work of the Lord touched many lives. We thank God for his life and his service.

Our prayers and heartfelt condolences go to his wife Pauline, their daughters, and the entire family. May the Lord comfort them, strengthen them, and grant them peace during this time of mourning.

Tribute from Bishop Montfort Stima of Malawi

Bing and the whole family of Almaza
Greetings

Once again. Nani a man of God and a missionary. Yes he was a true missionary who has worked so hard to bring Gods message of love to Africa and some parts of midleast. As i write i can recall one day sitting in a restaurant in the then nothgate having a good meal and discussed the possibility of coming to Malawi bring Gods message to the families. Yes family ministry was at the heart of Nani as he stood in front of couples give a presentation on family values. I remember offering my poor house in Njuli where couples gathered to listen to talks about family. Nani did not mind about where to sleep and what to eat. What mattered for him was that the message of God be preached. All the travels to Africa including attacks by thugs and all that did not make Nani be discouraged. I remember times when he did not feel well but Nani never got discouraged. Nani never feared mosquitoes that give Malaria. All his personal resources were all for the mission. Buying tickets for priests to experience what it means to be a missionary. In the midist of all the hard experiences he encountered during his mission Nani remained unmoved with his sense humour. Indeed Nani is gone but his spirit still remains. He was not only a missiobary to me but he became a freat friend and not onlu a friend finally he became a father to me. I really thank God for making him part of me for rhe past almost 30yrs. He came into my life and stayed until we meet again
Nani remember me
Your son, friend
Montfort

Dear CFL Family,

Our Community mourns the passing of one of the pillars of CFL — Bro. Nani Almanza. He was many things to many of us: a trail-blazer; a mentor, a friend, a benefactor, a model, a humorist, and most of all, a dedicated missionary in the truest sense of the word.

Together with the only love of her life (Sis. Bing), Bro. Nani was instrumental in bringing CFL to Africa and India. He was also part of the mission team that established the Community in Dublin Ireland, and in New Jersey and Connecticut. He would have joined many more missions if his health had not failed him. In fact, he had served the Lord even beyond the limits of his physical strength when he took on the job of being the first CFL Coordinator for North America despite his advance age.

From the very beginning, Bro. Nani knew that CFL would be his faith community. Almost as soon as CFL was born in September 2016, he and Sis. Bing joined CFL and actively invited people into the Community. Soon enough, CFL was in numerous States in America, mainly because this special couple had said “Yes Lord” to God’s call.

Let us honor the legacy of Bro. Nani by drawing inspiration from his examples of genuine humility, committed service, and love for the Lord. In his lifetime, he had walked in the footsteps of Him who called him. So must we.

Bro. Nani gave his everything for the greater glory of God: his time, talent, and treasure. What is amazing is
that he did it without fanfare or self-promotion. He did everything quietly that, oftentimes, nobody would notice. But God did and would, and this was what mattered to Bro. Nani.

This much I can say: If many of us in CFL could be just half of what Bro. Nani was, CFL would be a much better Community and God would be all the more pleased for it.

I will not say goodbye to Bro. Nani for he will continue to live in my memory of the missionary adventures we experienced together. His jokes will be remembered and shared as often as the opportunity presents itself.

Bro. Nani, enjoy the reward that God will give you for all your good deeds; delight in the hymns of joy that the choirs of Angels will sing as you enter the heavenly gate; and take your place in the heavenly banquet which the Lord has reserved for you.

To Sis. Bing and the grieving family: We extend our deepest condolences with a prayer for God to grant you strength and consolation during this difficulty time. Blessed Mother and St. Joseph, please intercede.

CFL Malawi Celebrates Its 6th Anniversary!
A joyful celebration at Holy Ghost Parish, Ndirande, marked six years of faith and fellowship. The Mass was graced by Fr. Lucius Zuze as the main celebrant, who delivered a powerful and inspiring homily.

He reminded us that CFL should not be just another group to join, but a path that leads us to holiness.

Grateful for six years of growth, love, and dwelling in unity. 🙏✨
