Title: “The Spirit That Gives Life”
Scripture: John 6:63
John 6:63
> (NIV) The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit and life.
*Introduction*
In a world that celebrates human strength, intelligence, and effort, Jesus Christ brings a sobering truth: “The flesh counts for nothing.” This statement confronts our natural tendency to rely on ourselves. It redirects us to a higher source—the Spirit of God, who alone gives true life.
*1. The Limitation of the Flesh*
The “flesh” represents human ability; our wisdom, strength, emotions, and self-effort. While these have their place, Jesus makes it clear: they are insufficient for spiritual life.
📍You can be educated but still empty.
📍You can be strong but still broken.
📍You can be religious but still lifeless.
Anything born of the flesh cannot produce eternal results. The flesh may impress people, but it cannot please God or sustain spiritual vitality.
*2. The Power of the Spirit*
Jesus declares, “The Spirit gives life.” This is not just existence, but zoe life; the very life of God, full, eternal, and transformative.
📍The Spirit breathes life into dead situations.
📍The Spirit renews weary hearts.
📍The Spirit empowers believers to live beyond human limitations.
Where the Spirit is present, there is revival, restoration, and divine energy. What the flesh struggles to achieve, the Spirit accomplishes with ease.
*3. The Living Word*
Jesus continues, “The words I have spoken… are Spirit and life.” His Word is not mere information; it is divine impartation.
When you receive His Word in faith:
📍It convicts and transforms
📍It heals and restores
📍It builds and sustains
The Word carries the life of the Spirit. To neglect the Word is to starve your spirit; to embrace it is to come alive.
*4. The Call to Dependence*
This verse calls us to shift our dependence:
📍From self to Spirit
📍From effort to grace
📍From flesh to faith
A Spirit-led life is not about striving harder, but surrendering deeper. It is waking each day and saying, “Lord, without You, I am nothing; but with Your Spirit, I have life."
Conclusion
The difference between a dry life and a vibrant one is the presence of the Spirit. The flesh will fail you, but the Spirit will sustain you. The question is not whether you have strength; but whether you are connected to the Source of life.
Closing Charge
Seek the Spirit.
Feed on the Word.
Depend on God daily.
And you will not just exist; you will truly live.
